  1. When setting doors, I do it the other way. I get the door on the car, then I set the fenders and get the door aligned well with the fender and "A" pillar. Then I check the rear alignment. The door can be twisted to make the rear edge correct. There are not many options to adjust the door fender alignment. Shim the hinges or shim the fender, but the curvature and the detail line are set. So the door needs to line up with those. The only rear adjustments for the rear of the doors are some minor fore/aft adjustment, some up/down adjustment and depth of closure based on the strike location. My passenger side door is on the car and adjusted currently and you can tell there is no gasket in it. It clunks around with lots of free movement. If you don't have that, then the gasket will never work.
  2. The beer can looking fuel pump is aftermarket and not serviceable. The Nikki is serviceable if you can find the parts. If you need more fuel, electric is the right option. Run a fuel block off and add a relay to prevent the pump from running in an accident
  3. Mine is today. I went golfing, because I'm a glutton for punishment!

I haven't inspected the clutch stuff yet. They're in a zip lock now
  5. Wonder how many cars like this are still hidden behind some fence somewhere?
  6. In the last picture, the front lower edge of the door doesn't line up with the fender and the door looks to line up better with the rocker halfway back. How bad is the door off from the rocker half way back?

I used the installed TObearing and the clutch arm from the 4 speed. The slave has the adjustment nuts and return spring. I adjusted it before the test drive. When Cody brought the car around to the shop he had a hard time getting it into reverse with out grinding. He said the old tranny did that and the new one did it worse. When I disassembled the clutch hydraulics on Saturday there didn't appear to be much fluid in the lines although it moved the lever well

I don't recall. We may have to crack it back open and inspect it closer

That is possible but the clutch lever had alot of actuation when viewed directly at the transmission

I hate to add another large section to getting the car back on the road right now. I spent all weekend stripping the car. It goes to "paint jail" in a week. Presumably for 3 months or so. We'll see on that. I plan on trying to talk him into getting the hardware plated while the car is apart. I plan on exploring a professional plater in the area. I am still a little unsure about my DIY plating. Some of it seems to be very corrosion resistant others seem to fade early. We also have to go through all the hydraulics, wiring harness, heater system and other sundries

Doesn't grind. Might if you tried to force it. It just resists going into the gear. Same when shifting down. All the other gears were pretty smooth. I assume this is from being driven hard 1st -2nd. Less so in 3rd gear. The car was running terrible bad during the test so it wasn't very comprehensive

    That's very cool!
  14. Does she have the 5 speed? The timing chain on these motors can evidently be problematic

Which pieces are you looking for? 260z?
  16. The grease inside the half shafts can contain lead, so be mindful. Especially if you have little ones around!

How deep are the scratches? Some of that can be polished out
  18. The engine bay plate cleaned up good. What did you use? I have heard toothpaste works good...

At least we are communicating ? As my computers get smarter , my spelling gets worse! I have looked in the case but find it hard to tell how worn the parts are. I was running Redline MT90 in it. $62 a gallon
  20. Well you could add it to a Big Maxx 125k BTU unit to add ambiance!
  21. Did you call Z therapy? Many times they have it, even if it's not listed.

On another note we finally got the 5 speed in Codys car, right before we had to start disassembly for paint work. For the most part it drives ok except for 2nd gear. It's baulky going 1st - 2nd and 3rd -2nd. So how hard is it to replace the 2nd gear synchros? Does it make sense to just do the 2nd gear ones? If they are not too far in, I would almost rather do the 2nd gear synchros versus tearing the whole thing down while the car is in "paint jail". we had to fab a custom transmission mount because the 280zx is several inches longer than the 4 speed that was in there. We also had to get the drive shaft shortened too. Not a straight bolt in affair for any others who want to try it. We also had to cut the tunnel because the shifter comes up further back. We will weld in a piece up front to give a stock looking install

Is this flange supposed to be bent down on the fire wall behind the valve cover? I tried to look at some google images but wasn't sure that was how it was supposed to be
