COVID-19
4 pointsLinda and I finished our shots two weeks ago. I had a sore arm from my first shot, Linda didn't. Linda experienced bad nausea from the second shot. Spent 24 hours in bed. Couldn't keep anything down. I anticipated the sore arm and massaged my arm after my second. Woke up the next morning with a good ol' college hangover. Yes, I remember them! Felt good to take the stroll down memory lane in a left-handed sort of way. Of course, just like college, I was good to go by 4 in the afternoon. I'm still masking around the general public. The 'Z' mask, of course. I encourage everyone to get the vaccine, no excuses. Just suck it up. It's not as bad as getting the disease. My 2 cents.4 points

KONI Sports for Classic Z's
3 pointsWow! That was unnecessarily defensive over something so simple Koni Lee!! Not to mention completely unexpected from someone who normally does a great job of being a “real person” engaging well with his customers. Whether Koni has or hasn’t had this issue in the past (or indeed failed to record it on some system) is frankly irrelevant. The fact is, it HAS happened and what people are more interested in hearing about is what Koni will do to take it seriously! Not for you to just gloss over it / brush it away with historical rhetoric and an attempt at “levity”. In the last 40 years of spannering cars, I’ve been a loud advocate of Koni and the quality of its products. The ONLY time I’ve had issues with turning a nut has been with either very rusty old ones, or nyloc nuts - typically on stainless steel exhaust clamps and now your shocks. Putting your response to one side and looking at the facts: 1. Unplated metals of different “nobility” WILL have a reaction to each other. 2. Heat (especially in threads) accelerates the issue. 3. Nyloc nuts generate a lot of heat on the threads especially when being unwound. 4. This has happened more than once and on the same shocks / nuts supplied by Koni - regardless of the number of instances. It’s a bit like saying: in the last 28 years I never murdered anyone your honour so this instance must be just a freak incident that should be ignored. If as you say you’ve never had this issue before, then surely you should be extra concerned that it has happened, sit up and take it seriously. Koni’s response would merit a great deal more respect if it was to acknowledge it happened and to properly investigate it - rather than derogatory remarks (however in jest) about the client or just spouting unnecessarily defensive vanilla corporate statements. The people who typically do that are aware of a problem they are trying to hide - which I don’t believe to be the case here and why your post put some of our noses so out of joint. I and many others, have been very impressed with your responsiveness and engagement with the community to date and value it greatly. Please don’t let the side down with responses like that again. Take the issues seriously, we’re not idiots or inexperienced 17 year olds playing with our cars for the first time. A better response would have been to have requested those nuts and shocks to be sent back to you for further analysis. Maybe you do have a dodgy batch / supply QC issue that you’re not aware of. What better way than to get your hands on the “field tested” failures? Moreover, if you think the customer is likely to be a “nut” and not aware of potential issues with nyloc nuts, you may wish to consider including a warning in the instructions and / or include a small sachet of anti-seize; as most “enthusiasts”, unlike us more experienced mechanics won’t have it on their garage shelf.3 points

2 pointsI have an appointment for Physer or Moderna jab on May 5th or on call for Astra-Zenica any day, doesn't matter to me which one I get, maybe I'll do all of them. Suspension Cleanup and Refurb
2 pointsHappy birthday to me and my car. I wish I could say I'm 50 this year, like the car, but sadly ... According to the car's engine stamp, it was built on April 9th, 1971. I'm conveniently assuming it was mated with the rest of the car on the 14th so it lines up with my own birthday. I have no idea how long those steps would actually have taken. Luckily a lot of "gifts" arrived for me and the car today. A few of them in the pic, and a lot more are ready for pick-up after having been shipped across the border yesterday. Lots of fun in the next couple of weeks!2 points

1976 280 Z from Ohio to Dubai
1 point@wheee! always got great findings, and I ordered the same Tachy converter from Gene, UAE was not in his destination list for shipping but he agreed to give it a shot, so let's cross fingers so it doesn't get confiscated as it apparently happened in the past. I am also ordering the mechanical to Electrical VSS converter (metric) from Protuners, as I already converted my speedo dial to kmh + electric pump for 60psi as my FPR is set at 3.0bar and my fuel pump seems to be a little weak (needle bouncing 42-50 psi on the gauge). Already received my wire loom and expecting the fuel lines today.1 point

COVID-19
1 pointThanks for the perspective and encouraging comments. Mrs. Racer and I were long haulers this past 4 or 5 days. We took the oldest grandson's car to him in Fort Bragg, NC. Left Arlington, WA around 11 am last Friday. Arrived at Fayetteville at around 5 pm local time. 3,000 miles. 45 hours and change. Flew home yesterday. Bombardier something, about a third less wide as a city bus, 6 rows of first class, one by one, then two by two, no legroom. And no headroom. Made my knees hurt. But all seats were leather. Nice. From Fayetteville to Dallas/Fort Worth. A burger and a beer at Dallas, then a Boeng 737-8 to SeaTac. Fairly new, low hours. Wider than the Bombardier, but 2x2 first class and 3x3 coach. Still cramped, and made my knees hurt. And leather seats there too. Both flights they gave everyone a bottle of water, a moist towlette (70% alcohol!), pretzels for some, a double [str]cookie[/str] biscuit. Both flights were very smooth, nearly turbulence free. Saw a what I think was Talladega. Pretty cool. I took this picture in turn 4 at 155. Jeffery Earnhardt was driving, a late model Camaro pace car. Talladega Banking At 155mph by Racer, on Flickr All in all it was a nice trip, driving nearly straight through (we both crapped out around midnight Saturday and slept a couple hours in an Illinois rest area. I got to take my babe to all the cool places I found to eat when I drove trucks, and grabbed a nice shower at the Oak Grove 70 Petro in Missouri, (Mrs. Racer was impressed) and saw America, in just under two days by car, and 5 or 6 hours by air. Mostly chilling today, then back to The Big Shed tomorrow.1 point

COVID-19
1 pointThanks, I do that, if I can. I've had cocortosteroid shots in my feet. Heels, between the toes, in the toe joints. He sicks a long needle in from the inside about 5mm up from the fat pad, all the way in, until it is almost sticking out the other side, squirts a bit in, backs up a bit, changes angle slightly then shoves it in a bit, squirts some in, then repeats until he is out. For rhe toes it all goes in from the top, the joints, and in between. The first time the podiatrist said, "This is gonna smart a bit." I was looking away. At first. Kinda hard to not look when you have to focus on keeping your leg and foot very still. Every time after that I told him not to bother apologizing or pretending that it wasn't painful. When you look up painful in the dictionary there is a picture of him with his stainless steel and pyrex reusable syringe with a 4" needle. I really dislike getting injected. I have however, donated over 3 gallons of blood at my local blood bank. I always looked away, usually reading a magazine. The orange or apple juice and a cookie made it all better. Plus you kinda get a buzz when you're a pint low.1 point

1 pointGetting a shot is easy. Look AWAY from the shot and find something in the room to focus on. Example: "Hey, that crop-in ceiling panel is crooked. Maybe someone was in there messing around. What do the ones next to it look like?" By the time you have looked carefully at them, the shot is done.1 point

COVID-19
1 pointModerna has been around for almost as long as Pfizer. It's one of the originals. J&J and Astra Zeneca are the two that have had very minor issues. I got a Pfizer shot last week. My upper arm was sore for a day, that was it, but I don't feel a thing from flu shots so not sure that helps. I would have done any of the three others too. I vote get it.1 point

So how do you start your 240Z? For 48 years on a cold engine start I pull the choke, hold the pedal to the floor and crank. Generally it fires within 4 seconds. On a warm engine I just have to touch the key and it starts right up.1 point

KONI Sports for Classic Z's
1 pointVery nice home made adjuster, lapriser. This actually reminds me that last year I told Joseph that I would post the easy & cheap long neck adjuster tool that folks have made over the years. If you look at the bottom of the KONI supplied adjuster knob, you will see that the tip with the elongated adjuster slot is actually an insert into the end of the adjuster knob. There are actually two different KONI adjuster tab sizes so we have two different inserts depending upon what tab size is used for your application. Although a somewhat tight slip fit, you can remove your insert easily by taking something like a largish wood screw that will bite into the plastic enough to pull the insert out. Be carefully not to deform the intentionally soft plastic of the slot too much. Now you can glue or epoxy (anything hardening really that will fill the voids) that insert into the end of either a screwdriver-like nut driver tool or into a small 1/4" drive socket that you can turn with a 1/4" drive screwdriver-like handle. I bet you probably have an old one at the back of your toolbox that you never use. I don't recall the exact size nut driver or socket needed to fit it into but it is somewhere less than 1/2" or 12 mm size (maybe 10-11 mm or 3/8"-7/16'" range?). If you don't have these tools at home, they can be had for cheap at Harbor Freight, some brand X tool kit, etc. No need to spend Snap-On or Mac Tool levels of money on something that could be had cheaply or you likely already have and don't use. There is a good chance you can make this tool with a screw, a hand tool and glue that is already in your garage and not have to spend any money or more than 10 minutes time. Although you could make your adjustments turn the socket with 1/4" drive ratchet and small short extension, I really suggest using the screwdriver type handle and not a ratchet to reduce the leverage and remove the tendency to over torque/over tighten the KONI adjuster tab and snap it off. The small diameter of the screwdriver handle makes is easy to toss in the glovebox or toolbox for quick adjustments with the twist of a wrist without overtightening. Easy-peasy.1 point

1 pointLot of not so glamours work has been done on the Z lately. One task just about complete some might appreciate, restoring the fuel tank. Tank was boiled out and sealed, followed by many hours of body work to get the underside as smooth as possible. Finished out with a new sending unit, powder coated straps, new rubber liners, hoses, and replated hardware.1 point- Dash Differences : Under the skin
That's a good point. Any uncracked OE dash that's being offered (for big $$$) is probably a hand grenade. Unless you plan to install said uncracked dash in a trailer queen that's garage-stored, it's just another piece of 1970's-tech plastic and foam waiting for exposure to the real world to do its thing. I don't think any of us really know why they cracked. Was it sunlight? High under-glass temps? Air pollution chemicals? Combination of all htree? Or maybe it was just over-exposure to ArmorAll! Probably only a chemical engineer who specializes in polymers knows the correct answer. I restored my cracked 1970 240Z dash. It was a lot of work. Six years later, it's still ok but it has only a facsimile of the OE dashpad's 'haircell' look and feel. If the Hung Vu repro pad had been available six years ago, I would have taken that route. The 'Just Dashes' option was high quality but just too expensive for my budget.1 point- Is there a get-me-home emergency fusible link solution?
When I was in high school a "friend" showed me how to wrap a blown fuse in Juicy Fruit wrapper to make the fuse work. It burned all of my headlight wiring. Those old Juicy Fruit wrappers must have been like 40 amp.1 point- Found old Z pictures. I’ll start!
