I recently bought a 1978 280Z. The compressor runs but the AC doesn't cool. The system was just converted to R134 but the seller says it needs the expansion valve replaced. How hard of a job is that and does the dash have to come out. What should I expect to pay for this repair. Do you guys thinks it could be the expansion valve or some thing else? Thanks Randy

I smell gas in the engine area when trying to start but still have the base of the air filter attatched to the su carbs on my 240.... if I am starting to troubleshoot a fuel issue after eliminating spark as a problem how do I proceed? also, is there a return fuel line which would somehow endup back at the rearmost vent hose line on the gastank? I put some gas in it the other day and noticed it was leaking at that rear vent hose after giving up on starting it for the day... Either it was caused by me adding gas to the tank or all the work the fuel pump was doing when trying to start.... any input? thanks fellas... I've been doing my searches on the forum but not havin…

Been battling it for almost 2 hours and actually dented the rear quarter from the inside. It is a small dent from pushing too hard and I am pretty sure my paintless dent guy can get it out. I cannot get it to seat in far enough to install the screws. Unfortunately I lost all my pictures from when I removed it so I have no reference.:stupid: I have an early series 1 california car and want to keep it original. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank in advance. John Happy Fathers Day (where applicable)

:bulb:Hey. Im new to the forum (post wise) ive read a lot of stuff on here over the last year, never had to post until now . So hello, Anyways. i have an issue with my 78 280z l28 (cold air intake, 2.25 exhaust glasspack muffler) 5 speed (straight gears). It is an arizona car and i need to pass emissions here so i can get my plates and registration. I can get the car to run great under a load and WOT with no miss or studdering. but my issue is idle. It has a rough idle. clearly a miss and rich exhaust. Ive taken it to emissions twice. The first time i took it was bone stock. no cold air intake, no exhaust. nothing done to it. and it passed everything within spec …

Hello Everyone, Does anyone have a photo of the EFI Main Relay wiring on a late 78 280z from the EFI main relay socket out as it hooks up to the various wires. We have tried to hook it up as per the FSM wiring diagram and blew terminal 71 this is one of the terminals that are connected to the 40 amp fusible link. The previous owner did some creative wiring and it is now very difficult to figure out what was done. Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Yes I've got a lot of questions . I did the upgrade. My ammeter has become annoying. I'm sure I need a voltmeter now. Is there any potential for electrical problems there?

I'm going to order points/condenser, distributor cap and rotor....are these four parts what I need to eliminate my spark hunting endeavor? (and then I'll address the fuel aspects of troubleshooting) it seems that way...but more so as far as changing out these parts for new ones....it's good practice to get new ones with a new car purchase?? they do look worn....there was buildup between the points.. I cannot see spark on plug one when removed..but I'm getting good spark from the coil...

The birth date for my 280z is 11/76 but is titled as a 77. I have been waiting anxiously for the EFI relay to arrive, it did- and I have literally torn this car apart looking for the old one. Should I be looking for parts for a 76 instead of a 77? Any help would be appreciated. Gina
