Traveled 2 hours this morning to save one from rusting away in a guy's yard. It is a 78 4 speed, baby blue...and I was told it only has 60,500 miles. Based on the condition of the hinges and hatch struts...I like to believe it. I am the 4th owner. The car has been sitting around 2 years wasting away but luckily I found it. Look forward to a long fun restoration. Pictures will be up soon.

Hello all, I'm new to the forum and also to the Z life. I have already looked around quite a few times and this forum was always very helpful. I was always fond of the S30's and earlier this year I finally found a 76' 280Z that I could afford (and that my wife would let me buy). I don't have a lot of mechanics notions, but the idea was also to learn as much as possible from this project, as it has relatively simple mechanics. So I have already started tinkering with it and repairing some stuff to get it on the road. This car has a L28 with twin carburetors, weird, because every time I see something about the 280Z it is injection, but the car does have signs…

Hi There. I have been offered a free '73 that has been parked for the last couple of years. Apparently the hood release cable broke and the car got parked and left. What would you guys think needs replacing in starting the car up? I was thinking that I would use fresh gas, clean out the float bowls, and replace items as neccesary just to get the car to run. Since my experience is wholly with MGs, I thought that I would ask you guys what you thought might need work. Thanks, Mike

Hey all, My step daughter's dad is giving me two 1975 280z's. One has been in storage (garage) since 1996, he bough it from the original owner at an unknown time. It is an automatic. The other he bought as a parts car from Ohio. It is a manual. It is so rusted, he said, you could through a cat through it! It is supposed to have a new (at that time) engine. It didn't get stored in side... Both are complete. The stored one is supposed to be in good condition. I will see when I get it together and go up there to trailer it back. I'll have to go another weekend after that to get the parts car. I hope its in decent condition. The car he gave the daughter was in "good" condit…

hello everyone, all being well my 'fairlady' project should be ready early next year,so i thought i'd share my progress with some pictures and comments. i hope its of interest. It all started with the dreaded e bay (addictive to say the least). Quite a rare occurance when a californian 73 240z is listed on uk e bay site, when the car was still state side. What attracted me the most was the seller was a trader who's shipping costs quoted was 'very' reasonable, especially at that time the exchange rate was two dollars to a pound. I requested the usual extra pics of rust prone areas, which were provided in abudance. It still was a massive gamble to bid,but bid i did a…

It's here!!! A purchase that began just after Christmas has completed! After all these years my searching has ended. I picked her up today. When I got there she had a dead battery so I had to jump her. I'll figure out the cause of that shortly. Here she is... 1972 Datsun 240Z, Orange (918), Black Interior, Original L24, Original 4 spd, Original Z hubcaps, Original Owner, Dealer Installed A/C, HLS30-47945. Manufactured 9/71. Does NOT have retracting seat belts. Defrost lines ARE vertical. Needs new dash - original has like 4 or 5 major cracks. New Glove Box Door - original is hanging on for dear life. A couple of good size dings - Drivers door & roof?!?, also…

Oh, now this is the closest thing I've got to a Z-car story... Today (yesterday) UPS brought me my brand new 'cold air intake' with a BOMZ Racing filter... now I say cold-air in quotes just because... well, it's one of those cheapo ones where it's just an aluminum pipe that sticks into where the airbox used to be, though admittedly, the stock location is pretty nice if it's cold air you're after... Anyway, I set to work on it right of way. I unbolted the stock box but... for whatever reason... the tension screw keeping the box and the rubber attached would not come loose, so I tried some WD-40 (the only penetrating oil I had)... and when that (plus several different kin…

Finalizing purchase on a new old Pacific Blue 280z 5-speed. Have known this specific car for 30 years - my best friend's dad owned and he recently passed. He was an Air Force F4E pilot and was meticulous, but car was driven infrequently. None of the family are car guys or want it, but want keep "in the family". Funny flew up to Sun N Fun air show with my buddy and his brother law (he and the sister have Z now) and were reminiscing...asked what happened to car and he said "you want it?" I've always loved that car...and a More than a fair price, no rust (that I or they know of), runner with a new clutch, new door cards and white interior that was new at one point ;). …

Hi guys! :classic: Thought I'd make a thread about my Z project, as there's finally some progress. A couple of years ago, I bought this almost complete Z. (Se my introduction post here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread40142.html) The previous owner, who imported this car from the US got tired of welding, and sold it to me for cheap. It came with all the parts in boxes, as well as a lot of new parts like complete poly bushes, rebuild parts etc. My original plan was to do a full nut and bolt restoration, but then we had a serious rainstorm, and my workshop was flooded. This was the road outside our house. To be honest, 20 cm (8 inches) of mud and water…

Last month I pulled up next to Honda CRX. This thing had a tailpipe bigger than a soccerball. It sounded terrible and had 17" wheels on it. He rolls down his window and asked if I'd like to pop my Datsun's cherry. Nope. He wasn't listening because he starts reving his 4-cyl for all its worth and floors it when the light turns green. He nails through the intersection before I make it off the line, and he won. Thats right he won. What did he win? Well considering 3 seconds later he broadsided a police car I would say he won a night in jail, and more fines than I care to imagine. Of course I really couldn't help myself, so as I cruised by I waved at him as he was most likely…
