  1. I helped a friend list and sell his Porsche 912 on BAT last December. The BAT folks were helpful with suggestions on how to best present the car with photos and video. The car was located in Southern California and the eventual BAT buyer was from England. Once the auction ends, the seller collects the cash and all shipping, border customs, and additional costs are on the buyer. In this case, the buyer and his son flew over to pay and collect the 912. They then drove it to the port in Long Beach and put it on a boat to England. It was a fairly hassle free process for my friend and he got much more than he had anticipated selling it for locally. Sometimes, self proclaimed experts on BAT post ugly comments, but his auction sale went quite well. Detailed pictures are a must and a video of the vehicle doing a cold start is often requested. 2. I agree with Charles on it being a '70 or '71 with a later hood. Fender & roof side emblems missing, front and rear window trim missing, marker lights and bumpers off, new paint could be covering a lot of history. Check body panels with a magnet for Bondo. Dennis
  3. That's a safe buy in "Significant Other" terms - won't take up garage or driveway space and doesn't need any repairs. ? Dennis
  4. I just took a second look....no dash cracks.
  5. Gas lid looks useable. Dennis
  6. "engine clean enough to eat off of". Not sure where the seller is used to eating. But, if it's out of a dumpster, he may be correct. Between covering the side quarter windows and blocking the rear window view with the ginormous tall spoiler he's certainly enlarged the driver's blind spot. Dennis
  7. Oh, just go ahead and wash it! Take pictures and then roll it into the garage until 2059 when it can be a 350 mile Barn Find all over again. ? Dennis
  8. Allow me to help you understand how it happens in the case of Porsche Factory Restored cars. https://www.porsche.com/international/accessoriesandservice/classic/factoryrestoration/ Let me know if you have questions. Dennis
  9. Not sure why the plastic was left on the seat for 350 miles, so there must be a good story that goes along with the car. What did the owner tell you about why it is what it is? Dennis
  10. My guess would be that the flasher case is made of PVC and everything PVC gets the impending death warning due to lead content. On a related Big Brother warning, I've included a notice to parents/adults from the California site below. Make sure young children do not play with holiday lights or put them in their mouths.
  11. White Post Restoration has been around for decades and has a good reputation for the brake sleeve jobs they've done for the Studebaker community on wheel cylinders and disc brake master cylinders. When I've contacted them in the past, they'll give a price quickly. Dennis
  12. And the guy who does them for the elephants at the Ringling Brothers Circus says, "The pay's not good, but the tips are big." Sorry, Cliff, I shouldn't encourage you. However, take comfort in knowing you're not the only one with an 8 year old's sense of humor. Enjoy the 4th of July! Dennis
  13. Today, the Los Angeles Times newspaper ran a fun little story that the longtime Z owners among us may relate to. Here's the link: https://tinyurl.com/y2t4pxja Dennis
  14. I was a distributer for Covercraft products during an earlier phase of my life and highly recommend them. My 914-6 has worn Covercraft for 27 years and my Avanti for over 40 - they last a long time.. The covers are machine washable and custom fit. You can order with or without mirror pockets. Covercraft made many custom covers for Studebakers from the 1930s and 40s based on customer dimensions I sent in to them. The good old days! Dennis
  15. Although you asked the Group for advice, it seems that you may have already eliminated all three of the choices based on your budget (280), lack of storage space (240 shell) , and current mechanical skills (240 shell & rusting 260), Keep in mind that these aren't the last three Zs on the planet. As others mentioned, expand your search area. Find a local club or ask around at local mechanic shops to find unadvertised cars. Most of us didn't have the pleasure of buying a Z new off the showroom floor. So, for most, it became a hunting adventure. Take your time, the right car is out there. You mentioned that you have three parts cars 800 miles away. Condition? What can you salvage if needed for the Z you eventually find? Enjoy the search and count on this Group to help. Dennis
  16. That's quite a hefty bill to maintain the old York and R12 system. Newer system would have cost about the same. Owner must have wanted to keep it period correct. Dennis
  17. As mentioned earlier, the original York compressor mounted to a large bracket at the front of the engine. That bracket fit around the mechanical fuel pump. Dennis
  18. If you decide to go with the old style York, you'll end up with something like this: https://tinyurl.com/yxl96a3o You'll have a "state of the art" 1970 A/C system and all the drama that goes with it. Jim and Cliff offered good advice to go with a new style rotary compressor. I have the new style on my Z and all removed components of the old 1971 York set-up sit in the garage. Good while it lasted, but soooo last century. Dennis
  19. I understand your unhappiness, but that's kind of how mail works. You drop it in the mail and assume it will arrive at its destination. Did you ask why they refunded rather than resending? Dennis
  20. Was that Penn State or State Pen? Dennis
  21. My engineer son got his Bachelor's and Master's in four years at USC (the one in California), decided that was enough school for a while, and has been in the workforce since 2015. I like to point out to him that his starting salary was about the same as what I had worked up to after 30+ years on the job with my Master's degree. Engineers are in high demand. Today, he's flying back from Montreal where he had spent a few days shopping for satellite dishes for his company. As I often say, "It's good to be him.". Dennis
  22. Female with an engineering degree - the world is her oyster. Huge congrats to her and her parents. Dennis
  23. Guilty as charged. However, after watching the Banana Splits and the Spider Man music videos, I plead insanity! My wife, the psychologist, says she'll write a note, if it helps. Dennis
  24. Have you checked for power at the pump with a gauge or test light? Try hitting the pump with a hard object. Sometimes, they just get stuck when not used for a while. Dennis
  25. More Saturday morning than Saturday night. But, if your hound likes it, I'll have to play it for mine to see if he likes it, too. Dennis
