  1. I also want to thank Dan, @240dkw for selling me the rebuild kit for my Nikki fuel pump. It was very generous of him to include a set of the plastic retainers for my spark plug leads. I was missing one and most of the others were cracked. Here is how they look on my 1970 dated coded Yazaki leads, The yellow date code and Yazaki writing is quite faded but is still legible. In 2005 I put on new spark plug leads as I couldn't remember when I last changed them. I almost tossed these out before I realized that they were original. The distributor cap is not original, but it is a Hitachi, and has the logo. I purchased it in the early eighties from the parts counter at my local Datsun dealer.

Cliff, you don't heal like you used to at your advanced age and use! All I see when I ride now is a big belt sander going underneath me. And I don't like being sanded!!

DID someone say: post your bike?? My Fireblade.. drove 294km/h on the german raceway eh.. highway.. 😉 This bike normally has 2 ugly braces going from the tank to the mirrors.. A dealer sayd no after i asked can this be made on another way? it's damn ugly? He sayd it to the wrong guy! Made myself some strong triangular steel replacement parts IN the fairing! You can see one side clearly inside the fairing connected to the mirror (on the right mirror) I later on checkt and it still works fine by 280 km/hour ! I can see clearly how others behind me where not keeping up ! No shaky mirrors! 😂 After i smashed this bike, and restored it i sold it to the son of a friend! That good it was again! My friend did'nt believe this was the same bike as the one i smashed against a big oak... i can still feel the hit... Then i became a bit more sensible.. bought me an old... yeah a Gold Wing 1100.. Hahaha with a trailer! (Trailer is called a freebird! bloody expensive those things!) Boxer 4 cyl. 80 horse.. After restore.. sold it and got me a... (after selling a nice 280zx t-bar.) Almost new Pan-European (1300cc) that went very well but after a few years i wanted the big boy... A as new Gold Wing a 1832cc 6 cylinder boxer engine with 170Nm (eh about 120 footinches qsquaremeter thingy's? what you guys use hahaha..) lots of torq anyway.. And with central locking on remote, cruisecontrol... i'm not kidding you.. and 4 speaker stereo haha... and and...pfff...
  4. I've been making those for years, using Clamato or the spicy V8, and Negra Modelo. Add pickled asparagus, pickled string beans, celery, worchesterchire sauce, tabasco, lime juice, and ground pepper. A breakfast beer with veggies, almost a balanced meal! You should know what clam juice is, you live in one of the best places on the planet for seafood. Go to Taylor's on Chukanut Drive and get some clams!
  5. I love Clamato bloody marys. They're called Bloody Ceasars, BTW. I asked a Guatemalan I work with what she calls Mexican cornbread. She said "Mexican cornbread".
  6. The only way to know for sure would be to inspect the car in person. Look for the VIN stamp on the firewall, compare to the other ID plates, actually measure the rear strut tower height, etc. I'm too far away to do it, and even if I could, I doubt I could tolerate seeing this Z abortion in person.
  7. I don't have first hand experience with Eiji's staged engines, but I bought and installed one of his stock L28's. It runs very strong and I could not be more pleased. The quality of Eiji's builds are excellent. I believe you would be happy with any of his stage builds. Good luck! P.S. Just remembered he told me he builds mostly stage 3 and 4 engines. My stock is something he only builds every so often. So a Stage 3 is one of his mainstays... for what it's worth.
  8. I'm not sure about the front clip thing. I mean, someone may have cut off the whole front end at the firewall and welded on a replacement, but I can't be sure from the pics. The entire engine and associated stuff IN the engine compartment is clearly 280, but I wouldn't be so sure that the uni-body sheet metal is. For example... It has the 280 fusible links and relay assembly in front of the battery. But if you look closely, you can see that the bracket which the relay assembly is bolted to is not stock. It's a piece of metal strapping grafted into place to give the relay assembly something to bolt to. So while there is a 280 relay assy in there and it's bolted in place, it looks like it didn't come from the factory like that: Another example is the carbon canister... It's screwed directly to the inner fenderwell instead of being bolted to a support bracket welded to the fenderwell. So again, while the 280 parts are there, they may be an adaptation: Darn you guys... Now my counter is reset to zero and I have to start all over again!!!
  9. Congrats on the new baby! Your folks must be thrilled too. They probably bribe you for shed space. Have to bring the grandkids when you work on the car.
  10. As far as I know, Phillip uses Facebook for simplicity and there's no reason not to make the registry list available to everyone. I've attached the latest version from Oct 23rd. If anyone's interested in adding their cars to the registry, but doesn't want to join FB, let me know and I'll post the form here. I'm pretty sure Phillip would be happy to have any and all cars in his list. Personally, I like reading the short blurbs people include when they add their cars to the FB group. As everyone here knows, there are certainly lots of interesting background stories! I might try to find a bit of time to compare this list with the ZHome list and maybe create a delta. I don't know what the data-verification requirements are for either site, but maybe it makes sense for them to share the data and improve both lists. I don't think either one claims to be "canonical"? I also don't want to "step in anything". 240Z Master Registry.pdf
  11. Please allow me to be the first Canadian to jump in here and claim the Caesar: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesar_(cocktail)#:~:text=The Caesar was invented in,Calgary Inn's new Italian restaurant. I believe there are a few western Canadian members here who will probably tell me to keep my eastern paws off their drink! For years one of the worst things about flying on US airlines was not being able to get Caesars. Bloody Mary's are boring. Of course Canadians have long tried to brag about our beer (as compared to US beer), but that was mainly because they didn't look any farther than Bud or Coors. The US led the way with craft brewing and still has more craft breweries per capita than Canada even with ten times the population. As a beer fan, I'm grateful. Molson and Labatt are fine, but nothing to brag about these days. Of course Europeans (especially those crafty Belgians) have had it over us north americans for a long time! Should I duck?
  12. Took the booster off, thankfully it was much easier then what I’m used to with bmw 2002 boosters. Got the disc out, super glued it back on, put it back together and the brake pedal no longer goes to the floor! I’ll have to do some road testing and see if the push rod needs to be adjusted, but now I can comfortably start shaking the car down! Thanks for the help everyone, and I’ll keep faulty hydraulic parts in mind also.
  13. Ok, I'm back after battling Covid for a couple days. Today's job was power brake boosters. As previously mentioned, I sent three power brake boosters out to Power Brake Exchange last week and paid for them on Wednesday. All I can say is WTF! They arrived Thursday! They are quite beautiful and I am sure technically perfect. There was one mistake though... I asked that the 'best' of the two 280ZX calipers be powder coated in the original black, which they know per Mike the guy I spoke to on the phone. They powder coated all three so the ones I sell, will be nicer, but more money... Oh well! The smaller one is of course the 240Z PBB from my 73 which has been beautifully restored. The other is one of the two 280ZX boosters which has been restored. I didn't take pictures of the other 280ZX one so I can leave it packed in its box for selling it. For those of you who started following this thread here and haven't been reading along from the beginning, the 280ZX booster is larger to accommodate the heavier car, but in this case, I'm basically doubling my horsepower with the Rebello stroker so I need more brakes. These will be T3 Willwood kits front and rear and a Willwood master cylinder. The larger booster gives you more assist and makes up (I expect) for the heavy pedal caused by the 1" MC. I will put the two spare rebuilt PBB in the Classified forum as soon as I get around to it...
  14. Certified color! That's good right? They say clamato like it means something. Oops, it does. I thought this crazy stuff was new but it's been going on a long time. 1935. Hmmm, this tomato juice needs something... aha... clam juice (whatever that is). Refined by chemists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clamato
  15. $6 a four pack. I spend $12. It's not so much a hangover cure as it is a cause. I just can't drink regular beer in the winter and liquor brings out the monster Drankenstein in me. I mean know harm...
  16. Abomination maybe? I like "abhorrence for that abomination". Yes, I'm at home with my Cheladas on my off day.

Nah, $11,000 would pay off my house. I'll find a straight but ruff one sooner or later and fix it up. Especially after seeing that one you linked. Old is new money, cars and motorcycles, boats, blue jeans etc. you name it (except men and women).
  18. 1 point
Should have said something sooner. Doesn't need restoring though. Not mine, just saw it a while ago. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1976-yamaha-rd400c-2/
  19. There is a bad database out there that somebody created for the Z car transmission parts. Apparently everyone uses it because the same errors are shown by everybody. It's kind of illuminating about how the car parts market works. There is another about CV axles for the 240Z.
  20. I probably over-wrote as I tend to do. But I thought that this side-by-side with a 240Z pretty well nailed it. It was derived from your first comment. Nobody is going to swap rear shock towers. The top one is from a guy that's restoring a 240Z. The next is from the Beverly Hills pictures. I don't think anyone can argue with rear shock towers. The work in the engine bay is just very good transfer of parts from a 280Z or the complete front end from a 280Z. Should also say that we're starting to repeat things that others have already said. Just saying.
  21. At least the engine bay pics aren't as painful as the interior pics! 1...,2..., 3... Squirrel!!
  22. Thanks for any pointers . I could have used them on the last 71 I did . I also make the mistake of getting SS lines which are about impossible to bend . I think I’ll recommend the aftermarket ones . The customer is already upgrading the front brakes so maybe save a few bucks on the rears
  23. I know. You are absolutely right. They are supposed to adjust, but they usually just don't. In order to get rear drums that really do adjust, you need to get away from that goofy floating cylinder design and swap over to the 77-78 style or do a rear disk mod.
  24. I live in south MS, so similar climate to you. My car is a 74, so I think it had similar coolant routing originally. I installed 4 screw round tops with no water connection on the intake, blocked/removed every other coolant fitting and it's worked fine for years.
  25. 1 point
I rode my neighbor's CBR900RR, it was stupid fast! Would have been really easy to over ride your abilities on that bike
  26. Uhhhh... So are the rear drums. Haha!!
  27. so despite my daughter arriving I managed to make it to the car to do a bit of spannering, stripped the drum brakes and gave them a clean out, also got the front suspension assembly broken down and ready to bring all components in need of a press to my mates shop. I still haven’t decided if I’m going to rebuild drums or go straight to discs. Any thoughts or opinions? not sure which is an original 240z cylinder, anyone know off hand? After wire brushing the crud off the rear control arm looks like some smart fellow tried to put a jack stand under it. I was thinking I would just finesse the dents straight if I can. Outer tie rods were jammed in tight, haven’t tried heat yet but figure I’ll just press them out along with everything else. So just dismantled steering rack at the knuckle. anybody know if the silver brackets from the steering rack bushes are meant to be there? They looked like diy aluminum shims made up.
  28. Kids are amazing projects but you might find you grow as much as they do...😉
  29. Yes, it is. And I managed to not look at any of those pics again today. So one day down... I'm continuing to lean towards your assessment that someone took two cars and put one car together from the pile of parts. Based on the height of the metal portion of the rear strut towers, I think the uni-body came from a 240 (presumably a 72) and pretty much everything else came from a 280 (presumably a 76). Weird that someone would have put all that 280 stuff onto and into a 240, but I guess you do what you think is the best path forward when you're in a situation like that, right? You got a 240 with a blown motor and a completely trashed interior? And you got a 280 that is already a flint-stone mobile? Mother of Invention stuff...
  30. Not many replies on this , but @siteunseen says the aftermarket works well? Have a hard time convincing myself to pull the trigger on the OEM units - EVEN when it’s not my money and my car . I have a customer that needs cylinders for his 2/72 . He’s asking my opinion on whether it’s worth it . I love OEM stuff because it usually is much better , but 400$ better for a set - ouch . I should just look away and not worry about it , but thinking that could by him a cam grind and parts . Again , what good is speed if you can’t slow down well enough . Ugh
  31. Then that's a bad thing. It is the correct design..... Sorry Let me see if I have a 23 tooth reverse idler...
  32. I have BFGoodrich Radial T/A’s. size 225/60R14 and they are great. Plenty of grip and they are wide enough to look mean. Very old school looking.
  33. I can tell you there's not a heck of lot, I've been looking for tires for the same size wheel for my 510 and you either go for a full performance race tire or a El crapo tire for $69 bucks. If you come down to 195/--/14 the selection gets a smidge better.
  34. This is why I have ALWAYS LOVED this site, best, most helpful people and good usable help!! 😄 Of all the Z sites I've been on over the years this is still my fav!
  35. It's just disappointing that you have to join to see the list. I have family members who complain about Facebook's support of hate groups. They complain on Facebook.
  36. Phil Ray is a good guy and genuine enthusiast, his registry is not a scam. Phil is actively trying to get the current whereabouts and condition of as many 240Z's identified as possible. Its just a personal quest of his.
  37. It's a FaceBook registry. There is a 260Z and a 280Z one as well. After you join their group (free) they supply you this certificate, and offer to sell a sticker for your car. ($4) You can buy a deluxe certificate with a hi res pic of your car for $20 Carl's list is a lot bigger and more accurate I'm sure. Carl is in the Group. Phillip Ray is the FB group originator. 38. Not sure what if any value this bestows on your vehicle other than the equivalent of a participation trophy.
  39. I’ve known Eiji for a long time......he lives and breathes L Series Motors. I share his passion......as does everyone on this forum obviously!!!!!

Datsun Spirit builds some wicked responsive high revving motors. Eiji is a true enthusiast and very professional to deal with . Really pays attention to detail. I Just got back on the road with Datsun Spirits " stage 3" build in January. Haven't had time on the dyno yet so no numbers but can vouch for 9000 rpm pulls in every gear if you like. Its really just ego after 8000rpm though. Motor really comes to life around 4000 rpm and pulls hard till around 7500 + rpm. Challenge becomes not leaning out and ignition. You might consider distributorless electronic ignition for tuning. See you live in Richmond,VA? Hope to see you on the road soon. Highway 711 is always fun for spirited driving.
