Carb issue
3 pointshello! Some "progress." So... I guess I wasn't getting spark on all engines. I was getting about 3/4 cylinders max. Which is great to know cause I drove the car like that. Sweet. In a way makes sense why the front carb was always running lean while the rear carb wasn't doing much because it was the front 3 cylinders that were getting sparked. I got myself a new set of spark plug cables and put them on. Haven't had the chance to actually try the car out because its final's week. Another thing I got done was putting the original needles back on (n27). I was running m43 needles I got off a kit because thats the only way the engine would run. They were a couple of mm shorter than a n27 needle. Then I tried a n54 needle that also came with the kit. Hopefully I've have better luck with the n27. Also I found a method to set the float with the jet is turned down 10 turns so I'll try that out. Wish me luck.3 points

COVID-19
3 pointsOh, and I forgot to mention that it's actually recommended that you make your own aluminum foil deflector beanie (tin foil hat) and do NOT purchase one of the commercial pre-made versions. Since Zed Head mentioned that you should trust no one, it reminded me that precaution pertains to your AFDB as well. From: https://www.zapatopi.net/afdb/ "BEWARE OF COMMERCIAL AFDBS: Since you should trust no one, always construct your AFDB yourself to avoid the risk of subversion and mental enslavement. Sometimes, AFDBs will be sold on places like eBay. Do not purchase these pre-made AFDBs, even if the seller seems trustworthy. They may contain backdoors, pinholes, integrated psychotronic circuitry or other methods that actually promote mind control."3 points

L28 w/ SU Carb intake manifold vacuum leak
I got my new battery so the car runs again 🙂. It was idling at around 1200. I'll make sure to get another picture of the butterflies tomorrow. I welded on an O2 bung. Now I'm waiting for paint to dry; then I'll try to wire up the sensor to my ECU.2 points

I decided to plough on with the rotisserie build as I won’t be attempting repair on my front end until I have the car blasted and up to replacing frame rails/removing radiator support. Progress is coming along nicely. I realized that if I flipped my mounts and drilled new holes I wouldn’t have to cut and reweld. So now the mounts clear the nose. I love humanities proneness to be lazy. notched pipe and mocked up horizontal joiner piece. welded up brackets and jam nuts. My welding is slowly getting better, soon I’ll be able boast about stacking dimes 😂 mocked up front base, notched upright for the pipe to fit into snuggly. Next on the list: - tack everything together and add extra supports to the base -install castors - do a mock install from jig to rotisserie, My goal is to be able to transfer the shell between jig and rotisserie with minimal fuss and effort -all going well, weld up front frame and base and move onto the rear.2 points

Old vs New SU's
2 pointsQUALITY 100% New genuine SU carburetor manufactured in the U.K. handmade to order. @AK260 Improved technology and the benefit of over 50 years of manufacturing performance practices to create a superior carburetor. Includes a manufacturer warranty and factory support. Warranty is mentioned, I am guessing 1 year - will have to contact them to find out.2 points

1974 260z air cleaner hardware
2 pointsDid you find a wing bolt yet? Can you measure the one you have pls?. There are two different lengths, and if you have the later flat tops and its matching “larger” air cleaner, I think the bolts are shorter than the earlier ones. Send me a PM and we can take it from there.2 points

Z Proto in Dallas
1 pointThe Z Proto wrapped up a three-day visit in Dallas today. I had recently posted on the Nissan USA Facebook page about our 50th anniversary and they reached out to me with an invite to see the Z Proto. What followed was an unexpected photo and interview session where they posed my car next to the new Z. The new Z is a sleek and stylish car with none of the faux vents, overwrought bulges and creases, or chrome embellishments; the interior is exceptionally comfortable and well done. The Nissan team was very welcoming and showed a genuine interest in my car. I expect to get copies of the photos taken by the pros in the coming weeks.1 point

Strange fuel pump issue
1 pointNote: this is incorrect, if you're talking about 280Z's. 👽 The ZX's used a priming time at Run, but no 280Z's did. Seems like your hoses might be falling apart. You might check those. Could also be your pump check valve or FPR leaking down. The fact that you measured 10 and 5 is a sign. Usually they'll hold 20 or better even over a few days, even weeks. You can run your pump by removing the yellow solenoid wire and turning the key to Start.1 point

Rear Drum Brakes Backing Plate
1 pointI did not remove the grease seal yet. Was hoping they would come out together, but as I thought about it the last couple of days, was wondering if maybe that wasn't the hold up. Will get the seal out of there and see what happens. As for drift placement, yes, I was very careful to place it on the race and not the stop. Was actually keeping it in one of the two notches as shown in the manual. Thanks Jeff!1 point

1980 280ZX 10 anniversary car, red black
And the individual that he directed me to has been extremely helpful, thanks a ton. To Marty I should have written the the seller thinks the mileage was around 35K she didn't really know. As for the interior the divers seat needs to be re stitched and the bolster by entry needs to be died or otherwise worked on. The the sift nob, and the part that goes around the sift boot needs attention. After that the interior is pretty mint.1 point

Carb issue
1 pointWell done you! That is great progress indeed! I’ve spent an unholy amount of time playing with carb needles and springs. The strange thing is, I would have said that N27 may be too lean for your engine, but then someone here in the UK found they worked great on a 3.1L stroker! Go figure! Unless you have a wide-band AFR sensor / gauge fitted, you are forever guessing. But with a stock engine, the N27 set up richly or SM set up 2-2.5 turns down, should serve you well. Good luck with the finals.1 point

Old vs New SU's
1 pointNow then, this does make it MUCH more compelling!!!! How on earth did I miss that? Obviously they won’t look fully original but that is a minor consideration against reliability and more accurate operation of new v old worn components! So there has always been this available here .... http://sucarb.co.uk/pair-of-hs6-carburettors-for-a-datsun-240z-260z-conversion-set.html I’m guessing he’s done a deal with Burlen to make them for him and the 60 days isn’t shipping but rather manufacturing time. Again no bad thing as Burlen have a stunning reputation here in the UK.1 point

COVID-19
1 pointI've been an X-files fan from day one and have seen every episode more than once. I'm a big fan. But it's fiction!! Vault in the mountains where there are DNA records from everyone taken when they were given the smallpox vaccine. Alien technology vaccines. Silicon chips inside her head gets set to overload... "Oh yeah? How can you be so sure???" LOL.1 point

Rare and super rare Z - parts pricing! JUST ASK your question here!
I have two of these sets. I have been holding them in case I need to swap for a rear quarter panel that I have been working on and hoping it turns out ok. Not sure how rare but there pretty cool. Once I get it done I'll sell one set and put the other on my 71 once its got fresh paint.1 point

COVID-19
1 pointOtherwise. unfortunately she had a fall and got a bilateral ankle fracture they're about to operate at 4pm. Sitting here now. She's in good spirits and the Doc says this is fairly routine in older bones that get a good hit as in falling. She'll be fine. Thanks for asking. No, no I'm feeling good. Temps good too. They check it before entry at the hospital. I have 10G service now. It's awesome! Oh yeah I'm out there! You know me, I'm way out there.1 point

Old vs New SU's
1 pointIf you want original... those are SU's? The orig. carbs are HJG45W Hitachi's.. they look like SU's but are not. In the states everyone talks about theire SU's... they are Hitachi's made under license of SU. they are different in a lot of ways!! I would go for a orig. set hitachi's. (Do su's fit the manifold?) Do you have the inlet manifold and all the stuff? that can also be costly..1 point

1974 260z timing issue
1 pointThese carbs (SUs and Hitachis) usually run well with the mixture (nozzle) screws down 2 1/2 - 3 turns down from the top. An easy way to check your fuel level in the float bowl is to remove the domes and pistons, turn your mixture (nozzle) screws down 9 1/2 turns from the top. Your fuel level should be at or near the top of the nozzles.1 point

240ZBUILTBYME 1971 240z HS-001063 Project Georgia
That would likely be it. You mentioned the front of your car is higher on one side. How much? If you keep the original structure, you will need to determine how much out of position it is, and then figure out how to pull it back where it belongs. A frame machine is how body shops do it, anchoring the chassis down and forcing everything back where it should be. The engine bay is a large box. After sustaining a hit that deformed that box it is no longer square. Getting it back into shape is crucial for getting the bodywork to fit well again.1 point

Z Proto in Dallas
1 pointIt was a fun day in , almost a Deja Vu moment meeting Cliff face to face. Instant good vibes. Thanks again for the ride from the airport. IMHO, Nissan was pretty brave or foolish for placing that beautiful original Z next to the new Z. Is there anyone one the face of the earth that thinks the new Z looks anywhere as good as the original?1 point

We also have half of riffraff, I guess riff, in that photo. @gwri8 what a fun day! @Mark Maras and his wife were my instant family as soon as they walked up to my never been seen country arse in the airport's luggage carousel and said "Cliff?".1 point

Center console switch cover plate?
0 pointsI happened to be over near my storage yesterday so I stopped in to have a look at the taillights and unfortunately they do not have the additional bulb. This is quite odd since the car has the switches. I could not get a good look at the taillight sub-harness, maybe there is the extra bulb on there and the taillights have been replaced with US spec ones.0 points

COVID-19
0 pointsWell as an AstraZeneca human lab rat, I had nausea within 6 hours, 40.5 degree c temp for 8 hours, headaches and cold shivers the next day, achy body and low energy for a couple of days (one day I slept 16 hours!) oh and I had gained an extra two inches where it mattered!!! Although the latter appears to have gone into remission - I suspect it was the hallucinations. :p And then there was this ... ... which happened on the way to the vaccination centre at 25mph, locking up my rear wheel! Should have taken the Z!! One fractured elbow and the mother of all road rashes later, I got there and had a lot of attention at the centre + an easy decision as to which arm to jab! Strange thing though, laying in the middle of the road totally tangled up in the bike frame, the 3 cars following, simply drove around me. Not one wound a window down or stopped to offer assistance or check on me. But at least they slowed down to drive around the fresh roadkill. The fourth car saw me on my feet and slowed enough to get a good look at the blood dripping and to pull an “ohhhh I bet that smarts” face before speeding up again. If any had stopped, I would have just said thanks and that I was OK. But what if I really wasn’t? Call me old fashioned, but I personally would have stopped to check on the roadkill to at least put it out of its misery :p . I guess it’s just a simple example of our “general” society’s attitude to others and my inability to accept people can really care so little for others. I still refuse to believe it and can only imagine they had to get to a very urgent appointment or something.0 points
