  1. Howdy, I just wanted to share this super cool shift knob that @Captain Obvious finished for me last week. I wanted to repurpose my skateboard that I was using in high school after seeing these cool 917 shifters online. The Captain took the time to take the sections cut and glued, and shaped it to be just like the OEM shifter. He even was able to replicate the lower plastic portion out of aluminum as a final touch. We decided the correct thing would be to increase the diameter slightly due to having larger hands. With the small increase, I don't feel my pinky hit my palm like the OEM one does. I'd show it inside the car but I pulled off the interior to install the AC!
  2. I like the shot next to the original wood knob. That's a great contrast between old and new!
  3. Here's another early series restoration -- already bid up to $44k with 6 days to go! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-datsun-240z-37/
  4. 1 point
This was recently listed in Portland for $5k and was up for a few weeks. Now it is on eBay for $8500 out of Mt Vernon, WA https://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Datsun-Z-Series-240Z/163675642459?hash=item261bd41a5b:g:wKUAAOSwqUBczJik Interesting how these cars have progressed in perceived value. A 5K investment should yield $3500 profit in 10 days. (less fees of course)
  5. There are a couple of "experts" in the comment section pointing out incorrectness issues with the car and arguing over their expertness mojo. I'm glad they are not here. Lovely car, very well prepared.
  6. Nope, we are all African according to scientific research and evidence. Most North Americans arrived from Africa via Europe after waiting in Europe for transoceanic ships to be invented. Others arrived by walking the long route from Africa to Middle East, to Asia, to Alaska. They arrived earlier but all paths are from Africa. The crazy aboriginal "rights" in Canada would not agree with the above. They would claim that they were here first and own all the land.... so if we apply this to the Moon, the USA owns it as Armstrong was there first.... but his ancestors came from Africa. FYI: I was riding on the Mayflower When I thought I spied some land I yelled for Captain Arab I have yuh understand Who came running to the deck Said, “Boys, forget the whale Look on over yonder Cut the engines Change the sail Haul on the bowline” We sang that melody Like all tough sailors do When they are far away at sea “I think I’ll call it America” I said as we hit land I took a deep breath I fell down, I could not stand Captain Arab he started Writing up some deeds He said, “Let’s set up a fort And start buying the place with beads” Just then this cop comes down the street Crazy as a loon He throw us all in jail For carryin’ harpoons Ah me I busted out Don’t even ask me how I went to get some help I walked by a Guernsey cow Who directed me down To the Bowery slums Where people carried signs around Saying, “Ban the bums” I jumped right into line Sayin’, “I hope that I’m not late” When I realized I hadn’t eaten For five days straight I went into a restaurant Lookin’ for the cook I told them I was the editor Of a famous etiquette book The waitress he was handsome He wore a powder blue cape I ordered some suzette, I said “Could you please make that crepe” Just then the whole kitchen exploded From boilin’ fat Food was flying everywhere And I left without my hat Now, I didn’t mean to be nosy But I went into a bank To get some bail for Arab And all the boys back in the tank They asked me for some collateral And I pulled down my pants They threw me in the alley When up comes this girl from France Who invited me to her house I went, but she had a friend Who knocked me out And robbed my boots And I was on the street again Well, I rapped upon a house With the U.S. flag upon display I said, “Could you help me out I got some friends down the way” The man says, “Get out of here I’ll tear you limb from limb” I said, “You know they refused Jesus, too” He said, “You’re not Him Get out of here before I break your bones I ain’t your pop” I decided to have him arrested And I went looking for a cop I ran right outside And I hopped inside a cab I went out the other door This Englishman said, “Fab” As he saw me leap a hot dog stand And a chariot that stood Parked across from a building Advertising brotherhood I ran right through the front door Like a hobo sailor does But it was just a funeral parlor And the man asked me who I was I repeated that my friends Were all in jail, with a sigh He gave me his card He said, “Call me if they die” I shook his hand and said goodbye Ran out to the street When a bowling ball came down the road And knocked me off my feet A pay phone was ringing It just about blew my mind When I picked it up and said hello This foot came through the line Well, by this time I was fed up At tryin’ to make a stab At bringin’ back any help For my friends and Captain Arab I decided to flip a coin Like either heads or tails Would let me know if I should go Back to ship or back to jail So I hocked my sailor suit And I got a coin to flip It came up tails It rhymed with sails So I made it back to the ship Well, I got back and took The parkin’ ticket off the mast I was ripping it to shreds When this coastguard boat went past They asked me my name And I said, “Captain Kidd” They believed me but They wanted to know What exactly that I did I said for the Pope of Eruke I was employed They let me go right away They were very paranoid Well, the last I heard of Arab He was stuck on a whale That was married to the deputy Sheriff of the jail But the funniest thing was When I was leavin’ the bay I saw three ships a-sailin’ They were all heading my way I asked the captain what his name was And how come he didn’t drive a truck He said his name was Columbus I just said, “Good luck”
  7. Hi - yes. Although I don't call it 'baffling'. Baffles for me are 'obstructions to flow eg baffled oil pan. This is a simple expansion box where the sound waves expand where allowed through the mesh holes and are abosorbed by the steel cotton surrounding those holes.
  8. Check out your ancestors, if they're not American indians or Chinese....they're European :-) !
  9. RE: Happy Ending As I stood on the threshold of seizing recent opportunities, I stubbornly said to mySelf; "Self, one more time". So I donned my HAZMAT gear to troll the turgid nooks and crannies of my overstuffed garage... And lo and behold, there they were, in plainer sight than I care to admit, wrapped in an unexpected guise still fresh in their last coat of paint, and chuckling to themselves over their cruel joke. Thus, my search is absolved by the return of the prodigal wipers To those who troubled to offer suggestions/opportunities, my thanks. Stout Lads. Semi-interesting footnote: My Original wiper arms are of the configuration (side-post pivot) shown in the FSM, but which is rarely seen in the wild, aparently. Even the web Parts Manual shows a blade-to-receiver joint to the head. Who is crazy, or is it just another reality shift.
  10. MSA 6-1 headers with Z Story JDM muffler. No drone, not too loud, not too quiet, just right. Awesome sound! Trust me on this! A little cut and weld to make for perfect fitment but not bad at all.
  11. I bought most of mine directly from Art as well. Art did the Graphic Design for the cover of Mr. Uemura's English Language translation of his book. http://www.lulu.com/shop/hitoshi-uemura/datsun-240z-engineering-development/paperback/product-22879948.html This is the end of my "in-thread" commercial for Art-
  12. Thank you for all the hard work you did developing these parts! No worries
  13. Sure you are, at least I have done many times and Mike has never spanked me yet. http://www.datsunzparts.com/rockpanels.html
  14. If I were closer, I would buy it. Probably rusty but many semi cheap Zs left
  15. More updates While trouble shooting an alternator wiring problem on my 510 with yes, another similar GM alternator, wired as two wire, I have more to add on the subject. First, I ran across another excellent reference web page that does an excellent job of describing the workings of all the GM alternator variants, and how to properly wire them. https://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Wiring/Part2/#onewire My initial suggestion/recommendation about using the hotrod oriented 1 wire alternators from Mopac, has, shall we say, 'evolved' I've had consistent problems with them as they have a non-insignicant amount of current drain when the car is off. They kill the battery within about a week if you don't drive it. Hence I've moved on to the two wire style, where you supply a switched +12 wire to the alternator on the "F" or "I" terminal (right next to 'S') (see above link for very good explanation). The above reference alternator has the same case style as the original nissan alternator, so you don't have to modify your mounting base. A little spacing is about all you need to do. All I have to do is remember which car it's for. I'm pretty sure its a CS130 from the 88-89 Eagle Premier. 100 amp, internal regulator of course. You have to put your pulley on it, they come with a serpintine belt pulley. These alternators have a four wire socket that accepts a plug. You can get a pico 5657-bp pigtail from your auto parts store or get one from the wrecker. https://picocanada.com/en/view_product/5657-BP According the above link, the common practise of just jumpering the "I" (or F) terminal directly to the output terminal to excite the alternator is not the best idea. Read the details in the pirate4x4 link and you'll understand why.
  16. I'll second what Careless said here. Art Singer in Rio Rancho, NM is the person responsible for bringing this to market in the numbers seen now. It used to be you made your own, the basic pattern and idea has been around for a long time. Art started making them several years ago and selling them on E-bay. Al Allen (California Datsun) offers them now for an inflated price. Art doesn't care, as Art sells them to him. Art will be at Zcon2019 in Branson. What a character! He reminds me so much of Mario----as in the video game by the same name. When you see Art at Branson, yell out loudly--- Art never pays! It's a inside joke among the "repeat offenders" at Branson. I'll clue you in when I see you there. Art is also--more importantly-- the graphic designer, chief editor, be-all, do-all of ZCCM. (Z Car Club Magazine) ZCCM is a bi-monthly publication dedicated to the Z, loaded with very good photography and interesting story bios of Z car owners and their cars. Available on-line (6 issues) and as hardcopy (3 issues). www.zcarclubmag.com This is the end of my "in-thread" commercial for Art-----now back to your regularly scheduled topic programming.
  17. Because I know Conedodger likes Datsun Zs and Porsche 914s as much as I do, here's a racing picture that includes the two. The picture is part of a series by Michael Keyser who has listed automotive photographer among his other autosports interests and activities for quite some time. I have a batch of them on my office walls. Check them out at: https://www.autosportsltd.com/quick-list/ Dennis
  18. How many clamps does it take to get the headliner trim held in place? ............. Answer ... Many..... Been working lately on trying to get finished and drive-able local nwacc member & club president Scott M's super nice Black Pearl car. Nice to work on a car where dirt & grease have been banned everywhere ....
  19. More stuff back from zinc. Time to install some stuff.
  20. Bolts torqued and bearings pressed. I also got the pinion seated. I had to buy a smaller Torque wrench for the bearing pre load. Seating the bearings for the pinion was a giant pain but I got it. I love owning s press.
  21. Got the trans parts back from zinc and got most of the trans rebuilt this weekend. This is my first time doing this. I used the FSM, friends and this youtube video. Super helpful. Also a shop press jumped for sale locally, I picked it up for 80$. Youtube video. Below. Here is mine spinning. I had to take mine apart a few times. So I am a little worried I put some wear on the bearings. I got a brass hammer which seams to help a lot.
  22. Got the new starter in and put on the rear bumper. Rear over riders are just on loosely for now. Can't remember if @jayhawk gave me the over rider rubber for the front or back, so will need to check through my boxes. Got the vinyl on around the window frame along with the door weatherstripping on both sides, so should have the windshield in by next weekend. Also started cleaning up the fuel tank.
  23. Pistons here, crank arrives Wednesday, rods not far away, new pics shortly.?
  24. I got some zinc parts back. Sadly the aluminum is more pitted then I would like. But nobody will know but me. Also I got my osgiken LSD. Sadly the K R180 I got was from a 87-88 200sx. So it has the beefier 11mm bolts instead of the truck 10mm which the osgiken is setup for. I have the silly expensive LSD at a machine shop having the holes inlarged now. Fingers crossed they don’t mess it up. He is a very good machinist.
  25. Sorry for the extremely late response. Unfortunately I am unable to do high volume production. I can do seat brackets, but they are really time consuming to make as I dont have much time to spend on making things for others anymore due to my work keeping me busy and the time I need to put into my own cars. But there are times when I can put time into making stuff for others. Well all id like to update this and inform everyone that Charlie at Zedd Findings called me up and talked to me about he wanting to start making the inner rockers. I told him I have no issues with it as I think competition is healthy to have in any business. Honestly he didnt even have to talk to me about it, I wouldnt had cared if he made them with out speaking to me, not like I have a patent on this, but its nice to know he wanted to talk to me about it first. I told him that I dont have time to keep up with the requests I get in providing these panels, thus the reason he wanted to start selling. I am currently making a set for him as he wanted it to use as a prototype. I think be better to have the actual Factory panel to mimic off of but I guess he doesnt have any on hand. I dont know when he will be getting his inner rockers ready for production, I dont know how he will be making them and what he will be charging, but I will keep this updated for when that happens or you can just get in contact with him or regularly check his site. Ive already told some people about him, so hopefully he is motivated to get this going. Id love to keep this up and even making other products like talked about in this thread, but still dont have enough of my own time to give up on this. Hopefully in the future ill be back at it and be able to provide for all that wants. Well anyways, stay tuned!! P.S. sad news for my project 240Z is it hasnt gotten any attention since I left off in my build thread, for those wondering. I actually have some surprising news about it, some may think im crazy....but wont say it, so you will have to stay tuned!! Edit: I should add that the best way to contact me is at bpeck@prospect-d.com if you call me and I dont pick up my phone, then leave a message. I hardly answer the phone when its out of state callers. You can check out my site as stated in my email.
