  1. https://www.silverminemotors.com/featured/electric-power-steering-kit-for-240z-260z-280z-datsun-1970-1978-s30 ***** SPECIAL CLASSICZCARS.COM DISCOUNT FOR US MEMBERS! ***** PM me for details on how to get a discount on your order from Silvermine Motors! Hi everyone! I am documenting the installation of the Silvermine Motors EPS system in my 1976 280Z Restomod. My car is currently in the restoration and rebuild phase and I have purchased the system to help improve the steering and response of the 280Z. I will post pictures and document the system as it goes in and gets hooked up to the various components for all to see. My first impressions are very good. The system is compact and looks extremely well made. I mounted the steering column into the firewall using the supplied firewall plate. I had a small alignment issue which located the steering column down and to the right of the mounting tabs on the pedal box assembly. A small amount of pulling on the shaft allowed it to align with the mounting tabs and no further issues were encountered. No negative impact to the firewall or the adapter plate. This may have been due to the variation in positioning between different cars during manufacturing of the firewall etc, or it may have been a bad day for the positioning jig at Silvermine! Not that it really impacted the installation in the end... The other side of the firewall was straight forward. Attach the U-joint adapter to the shaft and to your connecting rod and you're done! The connections were precise and well made with quality looking fittings. The splines were clean and fit perfect. The splined edges of the connecting rod are beveled to allow the connecting bolts to lock the parts together. All that remains at this point is to: - locate the proper place to mount the control box. This will wait till more of the underdash components are in place to allow proper placement. - wire up the controls! Edan's @silverminemotors website has simple instructions for the wiring. I will post more as the restoration progresses and the system gets wired up!
  2. Oh.. so easy… if you're a handyman(!) .. Take apart the non working locks.. take your key that works on everything else.. now put that key in the non working lock..(after you have taken it apart..) now look at the plates (about 4 ?) change the plates from place, so they are flat with the surface or almost.. now if you have made the combination as flat as possible take a grinder and grind them flat on the round cilinder.. can be done with a file but a grinder go's faster and easyer.. now put your locks together again… Can't believe i tell these secrets! ?
  3. Found this picture of a street drag race from 1970. Looks like it was at the University of Washington (Seattle). Posted by Tom Doohan on Facebook.
  4. Yes but so does everyone else and a lot of those guys have more money than you and me 280 s are great cars, are superior to the 240s in many ways and the prices are still reasonable.
  5. Besides, that grey will look great with the green body colour.
  6. We need a PAY IT FORWARD thread. With tough economic times and the Holidays fast approaching, a lot of people could use a break or a hand out. How does it work? Really simple...Clean out your garage with a part that you thought about selling, but considering its relative worth it's just better to simply offer a "freebie" to someone that could really use the component. The basic rules are as follows: 1. You're offering the item for free. 2. Recipient should be willing to pay for shipping, but the offering party can volunteer to cover that if they choose. 3. Recipient pledges to "Pay it forward" at some point in the future with another item for another Classic Z-Car enthusiast. 4. Don't abuse the privilege. Only take something if you really will use it (No Parts Hoarding!!) It's an honor system. 5. Services may also be offered up...indicate City, State. In the end, we help each other out and feel good at the same time. Let's see how well this goes. We will collectively get out of it what we put into it. I will get this started on the right foot. I'm offering up the following parts just for the cost of shipping. - 240Z Driver's door mirror. Good driver quality, with gasket and nuts. GONE - Pair door handles. Few pits and scratches, but work well. GONE - '70 - '71 Ash tray. Cleanly cracked in half, easily glued. Gret if your driver doesn't have one. -GONE. - Hand Brake cover. A couple of tiny cuts but very good overall condition. GONE - '70-71 Shifter to tunnel grommet. New!! - Pair spindle pins. Removed with a puller. Thread are good, only needs minor clean up. GONE. - Disk Brake pads - Set of stock Beck Arnley front brake pads. Looks like they were used for a couple hundred miles. Lots of life left in them. - Stock coils. They would work fine on a driver. - '83 fan and fan clutch. clutch feels good. - '83 thermastat housing - '83 Pulley - '70 Water Pump pulley cover. Great core to send in for re-plating. - '70-71 Fan clutch. Not pretty but worked well when removed. - Left side headlight cover. Good condition, with gasket. - $ Energy Suspension bump stops. - New!! - '70 - 71 Tool covers. A couple of cracks, but very serviceable for a driver that has them missing. Have at it!! Marty
  7. No core, no return of old parts. From what I can tell, this is a completely new fabrication, no use of old parts.
  8. I think the bigger question might be "how low is lowered?" One inch is really not much. Not even sure it counts. I just recalled that the instructions that come with the KYB struts might say something about lowered cars. I think that that might be where the internet recommendations come from. I have them on my ~ one inch lowered car and have no issues, never even bottomed them out. Type of driving and road quality would matter also. I just found a blurb on the Koni site, from less than a week ago about Koni re-introducing a 240Z strut. Spooky. Looks like Motorsport Auto is involved. Surprised they haven't posted something on the site. They don't seem to be available yet, on their web site. Might be worth a call. http://www.koni-na.com/en-US/NorthAmerica/News/News-Releases/KONI-Sport-Performance-Dampers-for-Classic-’70-83/ Here's another blurb with a phone number at the end. http://www.koni-na.com/getattachment/NorthAmerica/News/News-Releases/KONI-Sport-Performance-Dampers-for-Classic-’70-83/37102_KONI_Datsun_Z_Motorsport_PressRelease.pdf.aspx/?lang=en-US
  9. I would list them up on the Parts for Sale section for whatever you want or the cost of shipping. A lot of people don't use them because of a different choice of air dam, or because they have wider wheels that may rub while turning with a lowered suspension. Either way, I am sure someone wants them!
  10. Looking forward to seeing more on this project. Thanks Mark. - from another Metallic Green Z owner!
  11. Pics from 1972. Got tailgated at a stop light....went back with black laquer.

Cool! Good work Zed! Hopefully this helps people get their cars legally registered in the states. If not, ship'em to me and I'll register them here for you first... lol

It's still the wild west out here. I can buy a car from anywhere in the world with no paperwork and register it no problem - as long as it passes a safety and meets Canadian regulations.
  14. The U district was a fun place to hang out "back in the day".
  15. Apply for a new title ! Got a bill of sale and get the car - especially if it’s decent. I got a 1970 that way. I don’t care if I don’t have the original title - ITS MINE ! Your going to have to make concessions to get an early one. I guess I won’t offer my 71 with no title and needing bodywork .

  17. Absolutely. I took all of my lock cylinders to an automotive locksmith and he keyed them all the same.
  18. Hey Mark, Nice install pics of the EPS kit! Awesome build! I'll be following :)
  19. Amazon. $369.96 plus shipping. Aren't those the ones everyone calls reds? Part number 86-1811
  20. Haha, kinda figured you'd shrug your shoulders. I'm a fan of all the Z cars. I have my favorites though. I draw the lines with the "sleds" (2+2)!

I'd check the vin to make sure there is no "funny business" to start with. Like stolen, etc. You don't know this guy so can you trust he is being honest with you? Not trying to be negative here but...... Was it ever registered to the new "owner"? Its not a good offer if it doesn't feel right.
  22. No kidding. I think I tore a rotator cuff just looking at that pic.
  23. Nissan used sound deadener of 2 thicknesses. The thickest was used in the cargo area. The 2 part #s are G5930-89902 and G5930-89904. I'm sorry but I don't remember which is which but they aren't very expensive.
  24. About the only thing you'll find in that range is a parts car. I have seen some really basket cases bring more than that lately. Good luck

Yes, a real shame. But, vinyl is very repairable. Once mounted, with a high quality repair performed, this dash will look the 100% new OEM dash it is, for years to come. I sourced another OEM dash off of ebay back around 2004. It is in my series 1 Z in (pic in avatar) and it hasn't cracked in the 15(?) years I've had it. Even high quality replacements like those from Vintage Dashes do not replicate the OEM one 100%. So, I am thinking the final sale price will be higher than the $800-$900 range. We'll see I guess. Garrett
  26. Well....look at the bright side, you now have a spare LH (not passenger)door handle now. BTW, that break is classic, if anyone attempts to open the door while its locked it will break every time. Happened to me more then a few times..
  27. Captain O and I would need the training guy to get the bar off of our chest.
  28. Cheaper and better for you. Maybe it comes with the training guy too...
  29. Shiny stuff! Silvermine delivered the power steering system today. Prices have gone up but Edan squeaked me in under the wire for last years price. Still with shipping and taxes/duty it was over $1500 Cdn! Ouch. Hope it’s all I expect it to be...
  30. Probably a little more alcohol flowing at a Barrett Jackson auction than with a BaT auction. That can loosen up the bidding/judgement restraint. A friend of mine sold his Porsche 912 on BaT a few weeks ago and did surprising well. The final bid far exceeded his expectations and the car is now on its way to Europe. Dennis
  31. If I were the buyer , I would disassemble the S20 engine. I need to see it is rebuilt correctly with correct parts . The seller said it is rebuilt already, but looking at neither non restored nor non replaced bolts and nuts on the engine block , I would be suspicious about the rebuilding quality. Even if the bolts and nuts was shining, and not informed who is the rebuilder, I would disassemble the engine. Kats
