Flying Z
If you look down the hole, the crack seems pretty deep and if you look closely at the head the crack seems to run between the two holes. The welding questions is probably better for the shop who will weld it

This is true! Although I would think a $233k boat has a locked area at least as secure as a Z... although nice Datsun's are now trading at $25k, in 7 years they will be pushing double that if things don't change. I would think easily stolen, $50k cars would be appealing to someone who has a way to ship them overseas...- My two swiss S30Z Fairlady Restoration build thread
If you get the TSB's scanned I suggest you download them to the resource area of the site. They will be available and backed up that way- theft prevention
I wonder if a phone or Lojack concealed in the car gives off a similar RF signal...- theft prevention
This was an interesting review on the device "SPOT Trace led me to believe that my boat would be safe using this device and their service. Truth is the day my $233,000 boat was stolen it didn't do a thing. Why? Because these SPOT Trace devices can be easily found due to the fact that they emit an RF frequency to communicate with GPS satellites. Anyone can buy an RF detector here on Amazon that will tell a thief if your boat, motorcycle or car has one. They simply find the hidden device, turn the device off or remove the batteries and your car boat, truck, or motorcycle disappears! When we told the police officer taking the report we had satellite tracking on the boat he said those are worthless. A thief who knows his trade will not let a tracking device like SPOT Trace get in his way. SPOT won't tell you this. They lead you to believe your vehicle is protected. That's not always the case. SPOT Trace is no deterrent for a professional thief!"- theft prevention
Lots of 1 star reviews this one only has 8 reviews but they are all pretty good- Tail (brake) Light Issue
Glad you found it- theft prevention
I had thought about doing that. I hadn't worked out the details of tracking, power and service plans. Thanks for the idea...- theft prevention
Dennis, Is there anyone other than Lojack for this technology?- 1973 Rebuild
Mathew, Do you have little kids that walk? If you do, be careful about leaving things that could turn over on them as they toddle about the garage. The engines aren't very stable and they are about 600#'s or so. Think about a ratchet a strap or bolt them down. I saw the screw into the block in the later pictures but probably needs to be a little more stout. Would hate to see something bad happen...I have had them turn over...- Ran out of fuel 260z fuel pump wont bring fuel to carbs
This is possible, but I have also found that the little valves in the pump get gunked up as the fuel turns to varnish from sitting. Sometimes they stick open or closed and sometimes they move but don't seal due to varnish. I have opened them up, cleaned them and reassembled. Be careful not to rip the diaphragm!!! One thing to consider is if the car is going to sit for a while undriven go ahead and remove the battery, drain the tank and run the fuel out of the pump and carbs. Our modern oxygenated fuels don't store well- theft prevention
I really think something like lojack is a better idea. We have to repossess cars sometimes and when we do they just pull up with a wrecker ,lift it and leave, 30 seconds max. I think many Z's get stolen this way so the cars really don't have to roll that much. Many times they pull them up onto a trailer or rollback. Being able to locate the car is probably the better solution. Professionals would rather haul it then figure out if it runs later...- Replacement Inner Rocker Panels
Have you thought about offering them wholesale to MSA, Zedd Saver, Zedd Findings? That's what Zsondabrain did to create enough demand to justify making quantities of parts- Tail (brake) Light Issue
SteveJ came to my house and helped me resolve a similar problem. He helped me clean the fuse box in vinegar and it made a huge difference. I posted about it in my thread in the 510 sub-forum. You could check the voltage on each side of the fuse, check them on them on the back side of the fuse box. You should be able to find the factory grounds and fix them. They are adequate if they are clean.- Tail (brake) Light Issue
You also have an issue on the positive side which I was also trying to ascertain. 2 volts is a pretty good drop to the rear. One day when your bored clean all the connections between the front and the back and recheck the same way. I am sorry I am having trouble visualizing your earlier description of where the splice might be Zed Head might be able to help. Clean all the ground points you can find. I don't know if @zKars hidden ground point plays into this too...- FREE: Glove Box Decal
- Tail (brake) Light Issue
Nissan would make splices in the harness for efficiency sake. Under the loom tape in the harness somewhere will be a small splice. They strip a little section off a wire and then strip the end of the other wire and attach them to each other with a small copper crimp. They can be hard to find. Sometime they corrode...another thing to check is take your meter and with a long lead or a long piece of wire tie the black meter probe to the negative battery post and post up your voltages again...- Tail (brake) Light Issue
5 volts may not be enough to even make it glow...The 10 volts is pretty low too. What is the current battery voltage as a baseline?- Replacement Inner Rocker Panels
If I needed some currently I would order a couple of pairs but at the moment I don't have the need or the extra cash to hoard parts for future projects... They look great!- Ran out of fuel 260z fuel pump wont bring fuel to carbs
Shoot a little starter fluid in the carbs and get the engine to turn over. It will pump faster and might prime it. It is very hard to prime the mechanical pump off the starter. Or you could also take the line off on the tank side of the fuel pump and pour fuel down it. It will fill the line to the tank so the pump doesn't have to try to create as much vacuum before it pulls fuel- FREE: Glove Box Decal
