  1. Thanks to @Dr. 240Z An Engineer dies and goes to Hell. Dissatisfied with the level of comfort, he starts designing and building improvements. After a while, Hell has air conditioning, iced water, flush toilets, and escalators, and the Engineer is a pretty popular guy. One day God calls and asks Satan, "So, how are things going down there?" Satan says, “Why, things are going great. We've now got air conditioning, iced water, flush toilets and escalators, and there's no telling what this Engineer is going to come up with next!" God is horrified. "What? You've got an Engineer? That's clearly a mistake – he should never have gone down there! You know all Engineers go to Heaven. Send him up here immediately!!" Satan says, "No way, I really like having an Engineer on the staff. I’m keeping him." God says, "Send him back up here or I'll sue you.” "Yeah, right," Satan laughs, "and where are you going to get a lawyer?”
  2. You have that right! Those are some pretty high prices to pay for a vintage car. We are lucky, in about 40 states in the US you have the option of getting an authentic tag from the year of manufacture. For my '72 I had to buy an actual tag from the year 1972 and register it but I will never have to pay again. I guess the way they see it is you've paid taxes for so many years you shouldn't have to keep paying?
  3. Put the dash harness and instruments (minus the clock) into the 'Vintage Dashes' dash. The fit was very good. Now I need to get the clock fixed in addition to adding new holes for the flasher switch, cig lighter and dimmer. LED dash bulbs have been ordered and should be here in a day or two. Had a friend join me during the assembly. You don't see too many Praying Mantis's out here in CA.
  4. Installed new Gates belts (fan and AC) and cleaned up around the alternator + replaced the AC pulley bearing even though my AC does not function yet. Glad I checked before I drive to Atlanta. Now to chase down intermittent headlights.....
  5. Thank you everyone , this is very interesting ! Pennsylvania requires manythings like Japan , Taxas does not so much ! siteunseen , your Alabama plate has "72" , very cool ! If I have a chance to be born again , I wish in other country , not in Japan ! People have been paying too much tax, but we are all worried about our life , crazy. Kats
  6. I ran SU's on my 77 for a few years, when I was in Las Vegas, and didn't have any problems with the stock linkage or its location. The plan was to do what you did Philip but never got around to it. But then had to remove them when I came back to CA.
  7. We're less than a week away from the start of ZCON 2018. Registration for the week will close on Friday, 10/12, at midnight Eastern Time. If you are only planning to go on Saturday for the People's Choice/ZNationals show, online registration will remain open for a couple of more days after that. Please note that while you can still pay at the gate for People's Choice/ZNationals, lunch is an additional charge above admission. I hope to see you in Atlanta...well, make that Duluth, Braselton, Dawsonville, Buford, and Lawrenceville. ? Go to http://zcon.org/conventions/2018/?page_id=132 to register before it's too late.
  8. I realize this is a build, and NOT to hijack your thread, but if you need an A/C block off bulkhead rubber gasket and fascia plate, find this in the junkyard....
  9. In the middle of my current mission to recover proper turn signals in my 280Z: I bought and installed a pair of electronic flasher relays to accommodate the rebuilt turn signal stalk. New vs. Old The electronic units have a bit more weight to them. The original bi-thermal relay was super light in comparison.
  10. Oh, rings a bell. I grew up in France so a lot of stuff I don't know [emoji848] Sent from my OP 3T using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  11. A cartoon from back in the day. Watch an episode and you'll see what I mean. You're not that young that you don't know who the Flintstones are, are you?
  12. lolololololololololololol I dont know why I thought the A-pillar would offer any type of support
  13. 240260280, this is my exact issue with the alignment to my Mikuni set up that I would like to solve on my 240Z. I swapped my linkage to the 280Z style because the 280Z has the ball and socket at the fire wall. I thought that may work smoother. It has been working fine but I sure would like to align it straight on as you did.
  14. Very different in Texas... The inspection usually is no more than 20 minutes, and they don't check emissions (yay!). All they check is basic stuff, like parking brake, obdii codes, power steering, windshield tinting... Govern me not haha Sent from my OP 3T using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  15. Kats, Here in the USA, each state governs it's own inspection process. And as you could imagine, the strenuousness of those inspections vary wildly from state to state. Some states have even decided they do not need any inspections at all. Here in Pennsylvania where I am, there is a once per year inspection that I consider very thorough. For example... Lights, glass, fuel system, body and frame integrity, tires, safety equipment are all inspected. Put the car up on a lift to check the suspension, steering, and exhaust systems. Remove wheels to check the brakes, etc. And we also have an emissions test as well depending on the age of the car and the mileage it has driven per year. But one thing they do NOT check is the alignment. If everything looks OK and the bearings and suspension are tight and there is enough depth to the tire tread you're good. So if nothing is loose or worn and the car feels fine during a short on-road test drive, then a suspension out of alignment will not be flagged as part of the inspection.
  16. Ya-ba-da-ba-dooooo.... You could just Flintstone it. That's ugly!
  17. As the disks are the same.. put the left on the right and viseversa.. if you really don't know anymore what to do.. The problem changes.. it's the disk.. Also i want to ad.. the smallest bit of grease on (one of) them can create that problem.
  18. In the USA generally if your car is over 40 years old you can get a "vintage" registration that allows you to miss on some emissions levels. I would say that even most of our cars would pass the local emissions levels required for their years, like your 432 does.
  19. I know you must have smog test there, is there anything that your car has to be inspected ? In Japan the inspection is a little bit tough for the modified cars , usually those cars have to replace some parts back to original before the inspection. Wheels, exhaust systems , seat belts etc . Also the car must be the correct height and width/ length written in the specifications except having an approval from the district of bureau. I have to pay 300 USD for “ weight TAX” Every this inspection, and pay 500 USD every year for the car TAX . Old car has to pay 25 % more for that !! Looks like there is no one who enjoys old car in the government. Kats
  20. I searched all over the West Coast but didn't really see anything I liked in my price point. I picked mine up from a guy who replied to my wanted ad I placed on craigslist. He didn't have it listed anywhere. I'm in Oregon though so there are quite a few of them around me. I'd say put out some wanted ads just in case someone stumbles upon it.
  21. That's a nice clean looking Z for a decent price. I would expect minimal rust on a car like that from the South West but I would still want some pics first.
  22. Hi Kats, Thank you for the information on the side slip test. It looks like a fast "drive over" alignment test to check the toe settings. I've never seen that before. Thanks!

Love you original owners! I have a one eared teddy bear my Mom says I have had since I was born.

Thanks for the welcome. And right you are! I forgot to mention that we originally bought this as a non-running car. However, when I arrived to meet the tow truck, the shop had started it and drove it around from the back lot. So it did run, just not well. Turns out the fuel tank was rusty and the shop did nothing to help that by removing the fuel filter (!) and replacing a seized fuel pump. We've since added fresh premium fuel and some HEET, replaced the fuel filter, plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor, and a few other small things. So basically a small tune up. Driving it around the storage area helped to also burn through some of the crud in the meantime. Eventually we'll have the injectors cleaned or replaced. With that said, I do have the inline filter on my short list. Keeps things cleaner and helps us to see how things are until it's time to drop the tank and do work.

  27. Just a followup. Looks like SoCalJim has you covered. Your 260Z would have a full size wheel and tire. Tiny spares were introduced to the Z's in 1977.
  28. PS: I can also Remote Tune Haltech.
  29. Being able to grab something with a handle made it much less tiring and allowed a better angle adjustment. If you try it, safety goggles are a must. The tiny paint chips fly off in a cloud.
