Hi guys, I recently tried to move my 260 that had been sitting for quite some time in the garage. Turns out I have no clutch pressure and the car won't budge. The master isn't leaking so I'm thinking that the diaphragm in the slave has gone. The real question I have is why the rear wheels won't budge. I jacked up the car and beat on the drums for a bit, thinking maybe the shoes had stuck themselves to the drum. That didn't fix anything. I also thought that maybe the wheel cylinder had gone on one side as I had to replace one side quite a while ago and didn't opt to replace both at the same time. I've heard this will sometimes cause the opposing side to go on older …

I just finished setting valve lash on my car's L28 today. I followed the FSM spec, 0.007 intake and 0.010 exhaust, set with engine cold. Took me several re-checks to finally get all 12 valves to be happy, I'd set them and rotate the cam back around (using the crank bolt) to recheck and a couple would be loose or tight so I'd have to set them again. Here are some questions I came up with. 1) almost all of the 17mm set nuts felt ridiculously overtightened when I first broke them loose, took my whole body weight and in a couple cases I even had to use a cheater pipe on the wrench. The other engines I've set valve lash on all used the same "one hand tight" spec on the set…

I am trying to get a better feel in my shifter. I have pulled my center console to try to clean it up and maybe put some paint on it and refresh the chrome strip with a sharpie as has been documented. What I was wondering is if there is a harder rubber alternative to the stock rubber shifter bushings? I would like to make the shifter feel a bit more solid. I have looked at some of the usual Z parts places and with no luck. Does anybody make a kit for this? Thanks

I am not very familiar yet with older cars and I know that for newer one's you can just turbo or supercharge the car for a major power increase, but what kinds of things can you do for a 72 240z with a in-line 6 cylinder engine?

This part hit the ground when I was pulling my motor and tranny last year. The motor and tranny are going back in tomorrow and, as usual, I am scrambling to figure out where it goes. I have already lined it up with tranny mount and that's not it. Thanks in advance. John

I'm starting to put together my old Z that has off the road for 24 years (it was run one day a year for 24 years). I'm going to replace the fuel pump and need some advice. The car has a triple Weber setup. I don't think I need a hi volume vane pump and would like a quiet impulse type pump. The mechanical fuel pump has been removed. any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hello everyone, we all know that the most expensive oil isn't always the best and especially not for classic cars. So, just which oil is the most suitable for the older Z cars. I know there was an article in a recent/current Practical Classics issue but was interested in what everyone was using and if anyone had any horror stories with "the wrong oil" I'll start with a story, in the army we use an engine oil called OMD90. It is a good oil and it contains a small amount of some sort of detergent. My friend at work has a triumph TR4a on its second engine now because of "the wrong oil". So from this I am keen to use the most suitable oil for the 70's mechanics in the old Z.…

I have been wizz off with my regular Napa store and furthermore it was the Napa warehouse in Las Vegas for problem related to being charged for a single point set in a box when there is supposed to be two in a box for A/T set ups. The manager was barely able to speak english and after I called back a week later, he just told me to forgot orders from Standard Brand products for my 72 240 Z. Yeah, it is quite an insult for Napa having quite a distributor in my region with no will to find why Standard in Virginia confirmed every JP7p-2 always come in a set of two in each boxes. These people are so stupid and Standard brand no taking care of the problem that I switched to Wor…

Has anyone serviced the the two driveshaft sliding sections? Is it difficult? Can it be done without taking off the u-joint? My u-joints seem fine but the in and out motion seems stiff. The manual says to service every 50,000 miles. Mike
