Hard to tell about the reclining seat from the picture. I don't see a shoulder belt or hook on the seat. I know that the automatic was available at the time. To the best of my knowledge it was not published in America as an option but we got a standard clock and radio. Interesting.

A low VIN is but one of many possible "conversation points" that will ad value to a car. I think Carl called it "bragging rights". No question about it, Carl offered an excellent illustration; a low VIN will help a car sell faster and for more money. Gosh guys, everybody knows that ! ! ! #1 of 3000 is far more collectible than #2345 of 3000. And then the comments about "if someone wants that sort of thing" are spot on. Couldn't agree more.

Filipe, I did not get a chance to answer your PM so I will do it here. My parts are wrapped up in the shop on the other side of town and I dont' get there very often. You will probably get cable measurements faster from this thread before I get out to the shop. I have a couple of pictures from taking 26th apart that will help, though. THe first is the firewall with the dash removed and the pedal cluster still in place. THe next is a close-up of the firewall with the pedal cluster removed. You can see the cable hanger in the lower right part of the picture. This hanger is peculiar to chassis fitted with the hand throttle originally. Of course, we have had the conversation about the wisdom of the hand throttle and how they were removed very soon after the HLS30 was imported into America. We had a conversation about the reference to the hand throttle being covered up in the early owner manuals. You all might get a kick out of the close-up picture. You can see a couple of rust spots I had to take care of. But notice the dark green painted areas around some of the other brackets. Evidently, after 26th was painted, spot welds around the pedal cluster brackets were added and then covered up by hand paint. Also, inside the bracket there is no paint. Just primer and some bare metal with surface rust. I still have to take 27th apart, so I am anxious to see if there is something similar lurking beneath the dash.

Hagerty - even for the restoration while it sits in a garage all taken apart. IF the shop burns or gets flooded - I'm covered.

I only have two original wheels for my two cars. They both came from the spare tire well. Both had original tires on them as well. I felt the flat description was too flat and (probably) my semi-gloss description is too glossy. Also, consider how a paint will flatten out after all those years. They are black, no doubt. How flat or glossy? Who knows!

I'm with you on this one, Enrique. Some guys enjoy working on cars and as a result "can" rebuild their own cars. These guys devote the time because they want to. I'm going to love it when my cars are finished, but then I'll go looking for somethings else to attack. Working on the car is every bit enjoying the ride. Some guys don't want to work on their cars and as a result "pay" for the finished product. They don't devote the time because they don't want to. They do other things with their time and it usually involves making money so that they can pay for the finished product. They have every right to beam about their accomplishment. It all boils down to the road we drive. Either way, I suppose, we enjoy the ride. I'm on the build the car myself road.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I read this thread an hour ago. I went looking for the info. Found Webdog's spreadsheets, but they don't seem to be of much use. I remember the old conversations about buying new hardware from Nissan to replace the old stuff. As it turned out for me, restoring the original hardware was more authentic and economical. I bought a tumbler at Harbor Freight and cleaned the bolts. Nuts and washers are pretty easy to replace with new, however the bolts bought today usually don't match the original bolts. Of course, it would take someone totaly anal to notice the difference.

I replaced the hood on 26th in 1990 without noticing the differences. The original hood had been bashed and a new hood from Datsun was cheap. It is just like the blue one I posted. Seems like a 3rd production Kats mentions. Funny, the part number doesn't change..65100-E4100 Just for grins, the part number for the PZR hood in FRP is 65100-E7200

One will learn more about the S30 studying here than reading and believing the referenced web page. There are too many mistakes and naive reporting to even comment. IMO another very inaccurate essay by someone who doesn't know what they are talking about.

Best of luck finding the grease reservoir. I actually saw one, brand new, in the bag, a few months ago. I was shocked. I would suggest you replace it with a normal grease nipple fitting. Let me know - I need two of them. Chris

Carl pretty much hit the spot about engine numbers, chassis numbers and production dates. Don't take it all too seriously. Evidently the Japanese didn't! I have a perfect example with my cars. 26th was built 11/69 with engine #L24-2338 and 27th comes with L24-2162 and a build date of 10/69.

Very interesting! Notice the fuel door knob? How about the map light? Hell, the steering wheel is worth $200! Yes, it looks as bad as 27th.
