Carl pretty much hit the spot about engine numbers, chassis numbers and production dates. Don't take it all too seriously. Evidently the Japanese didn't! I have a perfect example with my cars. 26th was built 11/69 with engine #L24-2338 and 27th comes with L24-2162 and a build date of 10/69.

Very interesting! Notice the fuel door knob? How about the map light? Hell, the steering wheel is worth $200! Yes, it looks as bad as 27th.

The Spacecoast club had not paid their dues and I don't think anyone said a thing about it. I think the "in crowd" doesn't exist any more. Personally, I think Umbrella Girls would suffice for the bikini contest idea. Bikini contests have nothing to do with Z cars. Keeping in mind that the convention is a five day event, unlike any other Z event, I think a weekend car show would get the most people to attend. Of course, so would a weekend track day. My suggestion is that the ZCCA hire a convention promotion business to put on the convention. I have been to: Long Beach - 2004 - best Japanese attendance Syracuse - 2005 - best track (Watkins Glen) Dallas - 2006 - met the most new friends Daytona - 2007 - fun in spite of the weather Will, I got your PM and e-mailed you back. PS: The media IS invited to the convention.

I got a cool little Cd entitled; "Z/ZX ads, From the Beginning". It's a Cd full of American advertising for the Z. It includes ads through 2006 so the title is a little deceiving. Loads up on the computer and plays a slide show with all sorts of magazine ads. Evidently, the images are from magazine prints as the quality is not very good. They can be printed. Maybe 70 ads or so. I think it came from Amazon.com however www.htsoftware.com CW-

Season's Greetings my valve cover collector friends! S30 variants included a 2.0 liter engine and you will find the "Nissan 2000" appropriate for them. Here in America, we got the 2.4 liter engine and early valve covers were noted with the "Nissan 2400 OHC". Later models of the 2.4 liter engine have the common "Nissan OHC" valve cover. I could be wrong, but I associate the "NISSAN" valve cover and the turbo valve cover with the S130 models. Now, conduct a search through the archives and you will find a mess of threads dealing with all the different valve covers that will fit on the Z. But to answer the initial question, I would say the TURBO valve cover would bring the most money however I would leave it unpainted. BTW, never sand blast a valve cover. The sand grit will get inside the baffels. CW-

The VIN makes sense. 1976-1978 Japanese market Fairlady Z or Z-L 2 by 2 with the L20E engine. Standard transmisson for the GS31 (Z-L model) was a five speed manual or 3-speed automatic, and a 4-speed manual transmission for the GS31-S. There was also the GS31-J (Fairlady Z-T model) which came with the L20E engine and a 5-speed manual or 3-speed automatic. These cars were in production between July 1976 and August 1978.

Hi Carl, I mean the mounting "hardware". Nuts, bolts, screws, washers, and brackets. As I said before, I don't know if the trim rings are chromed or what. What I DO know is that side-by-side the difference cannot be distinguished. I do not believe that the "MSA" type of lenses will fit inside the "JDM" trim ring. Yes, headlight covers could be purchased in America by part number. I do not think the dealers ever installed them as they are / were illegal in most States. The last year for headlight covers on imported cars in the USA was 1967. '67 Jaguar XKEs and Alfa Romeo Duetto imports had headlight covers. They did not in 1968. Hey Will! Merry Christmas. Fred was asking about you the other night. I wouldn't be surprised if the rims were plated. I'm not completely certain they are polished stainless. They don't seem to rust, do they? I have never seen a rusted set.

There are no markings that distinguish JDM from reproductions, but the reproductions from Datsun Spirit might as well be originals. What we Americans would call JDM headlight covers have a polished stainless steel mounting rim that surrounds the clear lens. No other headlight cover that I know of has this feature. I think Datsun Spirit sold out of his supply and no more are available. A search in the archive will bring many conversations about the pieces. I bought new originals a couple of years ago for over $500 and then I paid $350 for a set of Datsun Spirit repros. The Datsun Spirit covers did not come with hardware. My originals have hardware and mounting instructions. The used set on eBay for $400 is a good price. These pieces are very expensive.

Thaks for the info, Joseph! If memory serves me correctly, it sold at auction for $35 - Monterey? I think the fuse is for the 8-track player / radio, Kats. Nice steering wheel. I think the 260 Z import had a wheel like that. I have one in very poor condition.

Here is the article about the car from Road & Track; February 1997. Nissan reprinted the article as part of the Vintage Z program literature. This car was done prior to the program like the Hemmings article says. Do you all think this is the same car? Different wheels

Always worth looking in to. Carl should know about this one. For certain it is NOT HLS30-00006. Also, the add says "0006 off the assembly line". That statement doesn't have much meaning. First clue is that there aren't enough digits. Should be 5 instead of 4. However it could be HS30-00006 or S30-00006. One never knows. Look into it!

Ok. I linked and searched and searched. Can't find the article. I wonder if it is the same one Road and Track did in 1996. Would really like to see this article.
