Trump and political comments, opinions, supported by fact or not
My vote would be not to have political rants on this site. I have always thought that this site, just like sports is an escape from the political B.S. Please find a political site to your liking and do your venting there.4 points

Stainless Rear Plate Between Engine and Transmission
As a recent project, I had a new rear plate made for between the engine and the transmission. It's laser cut out of 304 stainless, and it turned out fantastic! Just the thing for bling! Since I'm putting it on a 280, I modeled it after the later version with the triangular shaped hole instead of the earlier 240 version with the round hole in the middle. The parts fische says the manual trans 240s used P/N 30411-E3000, while everything after that used P/N 30411-A8600. Also note that the 240 version was superseded by the 280 version, so according to that documentation, they are interchangeable. Here's the new shiny stainless bling plate next to the original with the failing plating: Mounted on the back of the motor: Pic of the front of the transmission to see where the holes are: And here's the plate up against the tranny face. Just hanging in place with bolts and drill bits: Any interest in having more of these made and offering for sale?3 points

COVID-19
3 pointsSo... now Trump is saying the doctors are profiteering with Covid-19 diagnosis, and Jr. is saying the docs are morons and the death count is nothing. I can't even begin to imagine the death count if it weren't for the medical professionals who are exhausting themselves and even dying for our care. But... at the current rates of increase in infections and hospitalizations we may soon come to understand the true impact on our medical professionals as they are potentially overwhelmed and unable to save lives. 😢3 points

Returning Soldier On A Train
2 points#3230 An American soldier, serving in World War II, had just returned from several weeks of intense action on the German front lines. He had finally been granted R&R and was on a train bound for London. The train was very crowded, so the soldier walked the length of the train, looking for an empty seat. The only unoccupied seat was directly adjacent to a well dressed middle aged lady and was being used by her little dog. The war weary soldier asked, "Please, ma'am, may I sit in that seat?" The English woman looked down her nose at the soldier, sniffed and said, "You Americans. You are such a rude class of people. Can't you see my Little Fifi is using that seat?" The soldier walked away, determined to find a place to rest, but after another trip down to the end of the train, found himself again facing the woman with the dog. Again he asked, "Please, lady. May I sit there? I'm very tired." The English woman wrinkled her nose and snorted, "You Americans! Not only are you rude, you are also arrogant. Imagine!" The soldier didn't say anything else; he leaned over, picked up the little dog, tossed it out the window of the train and sat down in the empty seat. The woman shrieked and railed, and demanded that someone defend her and chastise the soldier. An English gentleman sitting across the aisle spoke up, "You know, sir, you Americans do seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You eat holding the fork in the wrong hand. You drive your autos on the wrong side of the road. And now, sir, you've thrown the wrong bitch out the window."2 points

how to sell original series I 240z?
After seeing some additional pictures, I will repeat my advice from above - - "Other than a good detailing, I wouldn’t put any more money into it, as it won’t seriously effect its sale price in the market. Actually most serious buyers would rather fix whatever they want, the way they want. They would rather see it “as is” than worry about “cover-ups”, or “cheap fixes”. (not saying you would do any of that - just pointing out the skepticism in any used car market)." Looking at the additional pictures - - I'll add, messing with such an original condition 240Z - can actually reduce its value to the most serious collectors. They will not only have to address its minor flaws, they will first have to pay their professional restorers to undo what ever you have done. They will pay more for a car that hasn't been messed with.. If you want to help your Dad get the highest dollar value, I would say spend your time and money getting clear high resolution pictures of every detail. Get that Z up on a lift and get pictures of the undercarriage, lots of pictures of the most common rust areas. Take the battery out and get clear pictures of the area under the battery. Pay a professional photographer to provide good high resolution well lite images if you have to, pay someone to put the car up on a lift so you can get great pictures. IMHO that would be the best time and money you could spend on the Z. Go look at the Series I 240Z that sell on BAT - read the comments - you will see that the cars that sell for the most have a couple things in common - 1) 150 to 200 great pictures and 2) a seller that stays on top of answering questions and responding to requests. To get the most value out of a 50 year old Classic Car - you have to put the most effort into SELLING IT. Good luck, Carl B.1 point

how to sell original series I 240z?
Thanks for your help everyone, here are the new pics I was able to get. I didn't know the driver seat had damage, I've never seen it without a cover on. I talked it over with my dad and I don't think he's willing to do any work on it. He did remember how to work the radio and it works. I'm willing to handle this for him and my current thought is to do external work + repaint hood completely + fix driver's seat. The rest of the interior looks good to my novice eyes other than fading in the carpet (rubber mats were laid on top of the carpet mats in the footwells leaving outlines; the hatch carpet is badly faded except for lines where the straps were). The engine runs great according to him and has never had work besides the usual carb tuning, oil changes, hose replacements, etc. so I'd rather not take it out. There are lots of original parts I don't think will survive a remove and reinstallation such as hoses, clamps, etc. The dash has never been out and I'm not able to do so, so the tach and clock and heater (probably, unless it can be fixed in the engine bay) will remain non working. Exterior work: flatten out the door dents. Remove all surface rust. Repaint leaving glass in - all the original rubber looks in good shape but I don't think will survive a glass out repaint; even the windshield has never been out. Try to remove oxidation on the chrome, if not possible, get the bumpers rechromed - other chrome parts aren't really oxidized just not bright and shiny. Do you think this is a good plan or a bad idea and should go for a full restore, which I've gotten quoted at $60k? That restorer was kind enough to say it probably isn't worth it; the car currently is worth under $40k in his opinion and after restore I'd have to be very lucky to get near $100k.1 point

COVID-19
1 pointI read that there is research going into possible lingering heart problems. There is a lot we do not know about long term effects. I can't believe how politics have led to people actively contradicting science and good sense, spreading a pandemic in an attempt to take political advantage. It's not just in the US, other countries like Brazil have actively denied the preventive measures. It's a really good time for people to follow the news of science and medicine, not of politics.1 point

cylinder head bolts retorque
1 pointI always check the headbolts after running the valve adjustment. Set the torque wrench to the specified torque, and pull on each bolt, following the sequence specified in the manual. Not trying to make them tighter, simply checking that they are all tight. Occasionally one or two will turn a bit, but generally they are OK. Just like rechecking wheel nut torque. Easy, squeezy, no pain, no stain.1 point

Stroking an l24?
1 pointBoth work. You can use a l28 crank and stroke it further by asynchrone cutting the main bearing eyes(sorry about the English description) I hope you understand what I mean. (This is what I did.) Or you can use an ld28 crank in australia Les Collins is doing that. He gets above 3 liters aut of a l24 with it.1 point

12/70 on eBay - Barn Find
1 pointI looked at it again and found the rating is based on the last 12 months 10 positive reviews and 1 negative then some strange math. Still has 1063 feedback and I looked through 8 pages and saw only one neutral. Positives: 10 Negatives: 1 This member's positive Feedback percentage 10 / ( 10 + 1 ) = 90.9% Ebay is all about selling something, anything for any price. They just want to make their 10% on the sale no matter what. Now they make 10% off the shipping too. Which then can cut into your personal profit. You have to pad the shipping charge to cover the fee. Kind of screws the seller IMO. I don'y buy much on eBay anymore, just every now and then when something good shows up for a reasonable price. Farther and fewer nowadays for sure. I agree with you though, the guys seems to have a chip for sure. As I expect you saw has not been on here for 4 years either.1 point

Bolting in Seats
1 pointI just did this recently. Use some plumbers putty to stick the washer and lock washer on so you don't have to hold them. You can then get the nut started with one hand.1 point

COVID-19
1 pointWell, yes, the part about the tariffs. I'm tired of the lies. "The only country set up to deal with it was Taiwan. They learned from SARS and put measures in place in advance.... good planning." WRONG! USA was set up not only in this country but on a world stage. The United States had measures set in place after SARS and Ebola. The current administration took all that apart. Fact. Look it up. Both of them are bad leaders, you say? One of them hasn't lead yet and the other isn't a leader and cannot be described that way, obviously. Get ready for mandatory masks. Both France and Germany have gone to mandatory masks in public. I just bought some very stylish Datsun Z masks. They are going to be all the rage. And speaking of masks; does anyone know how well ZCON did with virus transmission? Did anyone get the plague from ZCON?1 point

Completed the next frame which attaches to the gearbox support mounts in the trans tunnel. Drilled out the bolt holes and made sure it fit before welding onto the rest of the frame. My welding is getting better and quicker. But still slow as... this took me 5 hours including drilling. Came out square so I’m happy! next time I hope to finish the last 2 frames...1 point
