Simple. Because: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." - Animal Farm (1945) Not to be confused with "You fukked up. You trusted us." - Animal House (1978)
  3. They were indeed factory-fit parts, fitted to some S130-series Zs and other models. Nothing to do with racing. They were injection-moulded, with the better recessed type 'O-ring' gasket. I think they would originally have been painted black, and those garish blue and red versions have been painted after the fact.

Guys I really don’t get what’s going on here. To me it seems like an overreaction by government. We have had other viruses the past, the swine flu or the SARa virus or even the normal influenza that have killed more people than this current one it makes me wonder if the government knows something that we don’t know because they are taking such drastic measures and completely destroying the economy. I think we had over 30,000 deaths in the US last year from the normal influenza and currently worldwide there less than 8,200 deaths so it’s just doesn’t make sense to me. Cases are declining in China it seems like they’ve got this under control over there. Can any of you make sense of this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/17/health/coronavirus-united-states-deaths/index.html You have to love the media. Check out this statement in the article above..."and the death toll continues rising." Really! When does that ever happen. Personally, I will be a little more shocked when the death toll shrinks....People coming back to life would be pretty impressive. I guess at that point, the Zombie apocalypse is upon us.

Very true, but it skews the data massively.

Amount infected is such a bull**** number, they won't even test here unless you have over a 101 fever and have shortness of breath/ trouble breathing.

  10. Thanks for all the great input. Didn't realize the SUs would be enough. Think I will go with them for now since they are in great condition. As far as the future, who knows. Thanks again.

  12. So I selected the 5 speed transmission and differential today after landing this AM. A short trip to the JY and I looked at all the mileage and years and picked an 82’ with 226k miles. There was one with 186k but it was a 79 or 80 and I was worried it had the older 5 speed. (I couldn’t open the door to check the tag but it had the dizzy with the e12-80, the and older ZX tail lights so I figured it was an early one) The differential assembly was $120. I also checked at least ten 300ZXs to see if there happened to be a LSD...no luck. There was only one 88 turbo anyway. So, on the drive home I stopped by another JY to get a part for a member on here, while there I found a new Z I haven’t seen before. Engine and transmission are gone but in generally good shape for a car in a junkyard.

North Korea has 1 case. Just as believable as anything from China. Italy has their crematoriums burning 24/7. China has done this and also brought in additional portable incinerators to help out... but here are the numbers: China has 1.40B people and 3,200 deaths. Italy has 0.06B people and 2,500 deaths. China probably had >60,000 deaths.

Here's a good article that bridges the gap between nerd-science and common people. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/mar/17/scientists-age-groups-covid-19-workplaces-shops-restaurants

Edit - mine below is just an amplification of above. Posted at the same time. One more thing that has been mentioned but gets lost in the noise, when comparing to the flu. The common flu has a vaccine, plus people have developed immunity. So every year only a fraction of the population gets the flu. The experts are supposing that EVERYONE will eventually get COVID-19. Because there is no vaccine and because it is new. That's why it's called the Novel Corona virus. The nerdy medical researchers are doing a poor job of explaining this. And the administration is doing a poor job of explaining why it's important to slow the spread. Only so many critically ill people can be cared for at any period of time. So the "system" can't handle a large influx of patients. When you listen to them you get the feeling that "well, we'l just all get sick and the same people that would die will die anyway". But the reality is that many more people will die if they don't get proper care. So when things get bad you're going to see stories about critically ill people being sent home or being cared for in a tent, and dying because no ventilators were available. So, the personal view is "do I want a bed and a ventilator and personnel to be ready for me/my parents/my grandparents/anyone when they need it?" If you don't care, then party on the system will get overloaded and people will be dying at home while waiting. If you do then we need to put the effort in to stop the spread.

I just returned from Cuba to Canada. A passenger was removed from our flight upon arrival by paramedics. No disclosure of why. I was told to self isolate (by the Army) and sent home. I developed a cold two days later. Runny nose, minor sore throat and a light cough, no fever. I went back in to get tested and they told me I didn't meet the criteria for getting tested as I had no fever. So here I sit. However.... The public health minister in Alberta self isolates herself because she has a "minor sore throat" no other symptoms, and is immediately tested and has results testing negative in 24 hours..... and is back to work the next day. I guess some people are more special than others and that politicians can't be bothered with self isolation and missing work or social/family contact. While the rest of the population is forced to sweat out two weeks of isolation not knowing if they are infectious or not.... Triage only applies when it is done fairly and evenly across all the spectrum of the population. Rich and famous people and politicians should not be getting preferential treatment...

The only way to build immunity is to go out and catch it?
  22. Thanks for the great tips. Not damaging the stub axle threads is critical in this process. What type of locknut is the ZX version? Do the ZX stub axles also have the flat spaces? BLASTER certainly worked on the strut removal. Had a few minutes before going to work and shocked myself with a few good tugs by hand on the strut rod and it began coming out of the tube. That solved my #3 issue from my list in previous post and the great info in these past several posts should help with issues #1 and #2. Thanks again. Off to work I go-John-Lugoff, SC. Jeff G-Your narrative description of the axle nut removal was far superior than the video description I found on YOU TUBE. Great job in a detailed explanation. In this case your words were worth a thousand pictures.
  23. Snow rollers, that is a quite a rare event, the conditions have to be perfect. Brisk wind, light but packable snow, temp. hovering just above freezing, I've never seen it in person. Very cool.
  24. The KONI distributor in the UK is RFT in Mytchett, Surrey. Ask for Trevor and tell him that Lee with KONI North America sent you. Although he cannot get the Datsun Z specific inserts, he can probably get the M48 x 1.5 using the part number 73.25.01.003.1 from Holland. 25. In all my years living in various parts of Canada, I don't think I've ever seen anything like that. Thanks for sharing. BTW, snow-packing in and around air inlets can be one of the most challenging aspects of vehicle design and development. It's really difficult to simulate properly in a test chamber and climatic wind tunnel and field testing can be a hit-and-miss affair.

  30. Hey, I wanted to make a comment to the collective members of this forum. Sitting here trapped in my hotel in Panama....reading lots of post and questions from here and other Z forums I see a trend. The people that frequent this place tend to be very interested in helping others get these cars back where they belong....on the road to be enjoyed. Some other Z forums out there have some really harsh, condescending, self-serving members that quite frankly push people away. They don’t want to be bothered by people’s questions and admonish them for not spending hours researching a topic. It’s strikingly different in the people here. I honestly probably would have not taken on this endeavor if it hadn’t been the great people on here. The help I’ve gotten here can’t be more appreciated. I hope that I can pay it forward. I will continue to be a junkyard rat because its fun to do when I layover in various cities. A bad day in the yard is better than a good day at work. I will continue to help you all that can’t find parts you need. I’ll alway just charge you what it cost me to buy and deliver the part. My labor and risking life and limb in snake infested tall grass is free. Some if you have built up a nice beer fund. Not sure I’ll be able to afford ZCON with all this beer I’m in debt for. Thanks again [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  31. I have a very similar engine to yours but with shaved E88 head. SUs are producing a measured 232bhp at 6200 rpm and the tuner said he thinks it would be over 240 if he had taken it to 6800 but backed off as he is used to dealing with British Layland cars ;) also it was going a little lean. While getting lean at the top, it had no trouble breathing. The right needles will sort that out. I’m still in the process of finding the ideal needles as the tuner was modifying my SM needles while we were unaware of several air leaks behind the carbs. ZTherapy thought that my engine should be fine on SM, so that tells you something also about SU carbs. I think either lightly modified SM or unmodified MC would be correct for my car but I have yet to find the time to fine tune. ZTherapy run their SCCA car revving to 8K rpm on stock sized SUs with modified needles and producing big numbers. The beauty of SU carbs is low and mid range throttle response and power for the 70% rest of the time you’re not WOT. Also a piece of cake to set up. So my advice is get your carbs properly tuned but EFi is of course king when it comes to perfect fulling maps. If you go efi and cost isn’t a big factor, consider the Jenvy Throttle Bodies ... https://store.jenvey.co.uk/nissan-datsun-cknn03-1 And of course if you want the triple look / sound with EFi, then there is this ... https://store.jenvey.co.uk/throttle-bodies-and-components/throttle-bodies/heritage-dcoe

I’ve read all the threads on LED lights for the interior, and here’s what I ended up doing. I got a bunch of different LEDs and tested them out with the clock. To keep it simple so I did not remove the green domes, or alter the inside of the gauges in any way. I set up the camera on a tripod and used an 8AA battery pack to power the light bulbs. I shot in RAW, the color temp is 5000K. I used the same exposure values for every shot. Here’s a picture of all the bulbs I ended up testing. Bulb 1 This picture is the bulb that was in the clock. Regular stock tungsten filament bulb. It might even be original. It’s pretty dim. The surprising thing is how hot the base of the bulb got when powered up for a short time. Bulb 2 The second picture shows a bulb from superbrightleds.com. Cool 7000K 120° 4 Lumens. BA9s https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/ba9s-ba7s/ba9s-led-bulb-1-led-ba9s-retrofit-car/3/ It’s noticeably brighter than the stock bulb. Bulb 3 The third picture shows a bulb from superbrightleds.com. Cool 5500K 270° 40 Lumens. BA9s https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/ba9s-ba7s/ba9s-led-bulb-1-led-ba9s-retrofit-car/958/2359/ I shaved the plastic end down with a Dremel so the bulb would fit inside the green dome. Looks pretty good. Bulb 4 The fourth picture shows a bulb from superbrightleds.com. Green 40 Lumens. BA9s https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/ba9s-ba7s/ba9s-led-bulb-5-smd-led-tower-ba9s-retrofit-car/2077/ This bulb did not fit inside the green plastic dome. To take the picture I taped it in place with as much of the bulb in the dome as possible. The color was too green for my taste. Bulb 5 The fifth picture shows a bulb from superbrightleds.com. Cool 6100K 96 Lumens. BA9s https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/ba9s-ba7s/ba9s-led-bulb-5-smd-led-tower-ba9s-retrofit-car/2077/#/attributes/10855 This bulb is the same as the previous bulb, but cool white instead of green. To take the picture I taped it in place with as much of the bulb in the dome as possible. Bulb 6 The sixth picture shows a bulb from amazon.com White. BA9s https://www.amazon.com/64111-3-7020-Lights-Extremely-Bright/dp/B01MEFGAAI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1505518231&sr=8-3&keywords=ba9s+LED This bulb came in a four pack. I decided to try this bulb since it was cheap. It’s nice and bright. Close to the same brightness as the 96 Lumen white bulb from superbrightleds.com. It surprised me how evenly this style of bulb illuminated the clock. I like this one the best so far. Bulb 7 The seventh picture shows a bulb from amazon.com White. BA9s https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQOXU74/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This bulb came in a 10 pack. It is bright but not as bright as the bulb in the sixth picture. Bulb 6 in the speedometer Overall I went with bulb number six. Here’s a picture of my speedometer with that bulb. It lights up nice and bright. Here’s a picture of the clock powered up and resting on the dash of my jeep. Overall it’s about the same brightness feel to the jeep gauges on full brightness setting. The dimmer in my 280z did not dim the LED bulbs at all. It’s either full brightness or off. I also put LED bulbs in the turn signal indicators, high beam indicator, and brake warning light in the gauges. I tried a couple different bulbs but forgot to take pictures. I don’t have everything put back together yet, but when I do I’ll update with a pic of all the gauges lit up in the car.
