There's a craigslist ad near my house for a short block 3.1L stroker engine. Apparently its already built, i just need to add my head and some other bits. I have a 77 280z that's running well, but enough is never enough.. right? I already have a P79 in my car. I'd like to get some of your thoughts on whether or not i should go for this deal and what i will need to finish the swap. The other day a friend and I were discussing our respective commuting bicycles (stay with me here, it gets better). I mentioned how my latest bike seemed SO much easier to peddle, feeling almost friction free compared to my old cruiser. It mentioned how the old one seemed to be down right hard to pedal compared to this new one in the same situation. Different tires? gearing? newer bearing? Does anyone know if the timing chain tensioner in the L24 has a gasket, because i purchased a replacement tensioner in timing a kit i bought from BDA and it did not come with one, and my how to rebuild book says there is a gasket, but the engine being rebuilt in that book is an L20b. Also, i have looked at alot of different Z car parts sites and none of them have the gasket either.

Tried to find it in my FSM some other Z books I have and searched the Z car forums but no luck. I've been checking but cannot seem to find the size of the two nuts that attach an R200 diff to the mustache bar. Size and pitch? (16MM X 1.5 maybe?) I'm doing a swap on my Early 260Z and had assumed the R200 were the same as the R180 diff. and was going to use the R180 nuts. Ah well:finger:Thanks ahead of time. Bobby

So the exhaust smoke of my car (#11651) has slowly turned blue. I am banking on the o-rings, valve seals, or piston rings being shot... I will not know till further diagnosis but my spark plugs are covered in oil. Constant blue exhaust smoke (o-rings) is what I think is the problem. Does anyone know a reputable shop that can rebuild a l-series engine in the bay area, or in northern California? I'm looking for a shop that has handled pristine/show-condition cars, not the kind of shop that will leave your car in the corner covered in dust and parts sitting on the body. G'day.. I've just installed a new set of DCOE45 webbers and a rather crazy 0.33" lift, 38-78-78-38 degree camshaft to my zeds L28. (picture attached). While the car is a bloody hoot to drive out on the highway, in congested traffic with 40 deg.C + summer weather down here in Australia, all the hot air rising from the headers (which invariably gets sucked straight into the carb's) turns the car into rough idling pig (that cam doesn't help either!!). I would like to fix this problem by fabricating a large, rectangular "air box" which will bolt straight onto the carb's (the ram-tubes will be retained within the box) and ducting "cold" from an air filter mounted outside …

Hey guys, I can't seem to get my engine over a quarter of the way on the temp gauge, i used both a 180 and a 160 thermo from msa and with the same results, i had a mechanic put one of those guns on my thermostat and it read only 140 after a long drive I know i shouldn't be complaining givin the z's overheating problems but because the engine doesn't get very hot it seems to not like to idle any ideas????

The head gasket on the race car blew recently (280ZX turbo engine with P90 head). The previous owner told me that he had this head heat straightend and decked .008 -.010. How far can you shave these heads before you have to use cam tower shims? I have a machine shop checking out the head right now. I suspect they are going to want to shave it a bit to be sure its flat. Thanks, Marty

I want to make sure I am following the correct timing marks. As you can see from the picture, I have multiple notches on both the indicator and the pulley. I want to make sure the correct notch on the pulley is highlighted (center mark) to set the timing. Thoughts?

My Race car blew the head gasket last time out (240Z with L28 turbo motor). So today I started in on removing the head. When I went to push the timing chain tension tool in, it did not want to go inat all. When I looked closer, the manifold side of the end chanin was already very loose. The plug side of the engine is still tight. Does this mean that the tensioner has popped out? I haven't even removed the cam gear yet. Le me know what you think. Thanks, Marty
