  1. I remember at school... teacher said: there are NO dumb questions, there are only dumb students that don't ask!
  2. I had the toyota 2000 engine mixed up here haha.. (Because that one IS made by Yamaha.)
  3. I will! I will! I want to see those old pic's..!!!! BTW, you chose a good example 240z for your new hobby, not my favourite color combination but hey it's your car! (I did say it yesterday... don't like the red interior, but that's just my taste hahaha...
  4. So that would be the 6 cyl. 2 liter engine with the E30 head? (Looks like the 2,4 ltr engine of the common 240z) Or... are you talking about the 2 ltr (yamaha) twin cam engine ?? (also used in the Datsun fairlady 432?)
  5. Also when someone knows what it really is, let us know! He wants us to believe that it's because the 240z has won the safari rally 3 times but did it? i remember something about the 280zx tripple crown.. What was that all about? winning the safari rally from 1979... ?? iirc there is a sticker that says tripple crown '79'80'81 (that came obviously later)
  6. Someone was selling this.. I don't think it has ANYTHING TO DO with z-cars?? anyone?
  7. When it's a "after market copy" product.. yes! (Please install original!) If you have a switch for 16 bucks i would not mess with the old one and put in a new.. unless this is a "as we said in the seventies" a jokytoky part (In that time meaning a bad, very bad japanese copy part.. now these days we mean a bad, very bad china part with that expression hahaha.. In the seventies the Japanese were doing what the chinese are doing now... only these days the chinese are much worse.. (Japan made also very good working copy's haha)
  8. pfff upload of that answer took 10 ! seconds!! pfff
  9. Sean, you can do this yourself, i've done this before on a topic of myself.. don't ask me how... but if you want to change it in a month or so you can! (older topic's it does not work anymore.)
  10. I have a saying i use A LOT! Meten is weten, de rest kun je vergeten! Translated it's something like: To measure is to know, the rest you can forget! I've seen a guy with a new just returned engine from a known restorer, it did'nt fire up.. i told him to look if the timing was set up good (chain.) He got mad at me because the man who build this engine was a Mercedes engineer.. so he assumed the engine was good.. The best way is like often done in service manuals, start at the beginning and sort everything out, i don't want to say to do this always but if things get complicated you better start checking everything from the start, also things other mechanics did for you.
  11. Ive asked myself the same question long ago.. But apparantly it's better to have some heat in the carbs.. it makes the fuel evaporate better? There is a short loop through the engine and intake (and inside radiator in your car) at first, and later on when the engine gets warmer the thermostat opens to cool via the big radiator in front of the car. I have heard that in warm/hot country's they do not use the carb heating lines.. They leave them off as they don't do much..
  12. That's what i thought! The disk does that noise.. After i seen what you have in there.. i think it even more! That's why i always stick to original, to avoid this kind of hassle.
  13. Eh.. no, never seen those in red.. they (on pic.) are not original is all i know, i had a 240z silver with red interior, not a fan haha.. (We call those whorehouses) All that red i don't like them.. Especially 280zx's in red are terrible, everything is red inside ( BARFFF) 😉
  14. I threw them in the bin... there are many cars driving without these .. anyway the lower part is always wider thats normal there is no need to put a clamp on there.. it can stay open.
  15. When you put the car in gear and you let go the clutch .. say a few cm, or as you guys say half an inch 🙂 .. does the car move? it shoud not.. It's normal that the car starts moving after about an inch lifting the clutchpedal.. when you have a new clutch, as this gets older it wil take more and more inches before the car moves or starts moving.. after 80kMiles there comes a time the clutch is that worn that it does not engage anymore.. some clutches work a lot longer it's just how you "work the clutch" in it's life time.. A slight wine of the clutch when disengaged in 1 gear (or second) is nothing to worry about i think..
  16. WOW.... not SPAM ?? You could ask a $1000 easy you know...
  17. Oh? But he sits on the roof! On a big sofa.. on the middle of the roof!! 😂 It was so funny!
  18. On the european mainland almost (or all??) are driving on the right.. eh... RIGHT side.. of the road , and steering is on the left (WHERE it's supposed to be!!) Hahaha.. yes just EFFING around with the english!! (And Japanese..)
  19. Btw, he also has a lot of parts for sale too! For Datsun 240z 260z 280zx and 300zx z31 z32.. Just ask him he speaks english!
  20. Hi Guys, It's a sad thing, Jan Is selling his Datsun 240z racer as he is terminal ill.. You can find the advertising here.. ≥ Nissan 240/260 Z 2.4 Sport Coupé — Oldtimers — Marktplaats It has got all the special features.. won many prices.. Price is 75000 Euro's.
  21. Not necessary, only when you see/think that it comes back from the blaster with half a roof or so?? It's more important to check if the doors and windows fit before going to work on any paintwork and... thats not happening this year i guess.. Your bracing is good, but don't exaggerate it.. Nice to see you working on it again! 👍 Mart
  22. For sure a rusty hole! I don't approve what they did.. just say i've seen worse.. I would take out the whole piece and weld in a new part for sure.. but if you don't have a welder and want to clean it up a little you could do this with screws.. not allot better but better than a rusthole hey! I think he has cleaned out the rusthole, did some painting against rust and put that steel plate on there... with screws.. I've seen a original dutch car that had 6! patches of aluminum pop rivetted under the car and... all the chemical reactions totally destroyed the car!
  23. I prefer to do this with 3 persons, one inside pulling the rope and 2 on the outside controlling the screen.. if you have/ can find a guy that has done it before you will complete the job and be a experience richer I learnt it when i was with friends that were busy with a volvo screen and it looked very easy.. it was a same as a 240z front screen, you start with the bottom and work your way up at the end the screen pops into it's place, much simpler than the work you have with a 280zx screen i know now out of experience...pfff... all that chrome work..pfff...
  24. THAT'S the best part of a restoration hey! 👍
