  1. here's a little of what I've read over the years. I agree with Namerow, it's all up to you and your end goal for the car. http://woodworkerb.com/home/datsun-240z-rebuild/seat-rebuild/
  2. Yep, cost me $5 for a Radio Shack volume knob. My '77 would spit and sputter until 2,500 rpm then go vroom vroom. After the Pot tweak it leaves out strong and continues to vroom vroom.
  3. Agree with Zed Head on the rear exhaust leak. Not really a knocking noise as much as a ticking in my experience.
  4. They used the $300 panels on the 510. Fast forward is great.
  5. I saw these on a show, maybe Wheeler Dealers? They used them on a blue 510 and it looked good. So I search a little and find some for $331 and $1, 050. What do you guys think? They look like Christmas decorations to me but a lot brighter from the rear so attention getter for the fools that like to tailgate. Maybe I could just get the socket type LEDs, much cheaper. Plenty more important things to do like the Honda wiper and the other Dave Irwin upgrades. Bored as hell... https://www.amazon.com/Dapper-Lighting-240Z7073-1970-1973-Sequential/dp/B01GUBM15O https://zledslights.com/multimedia/?aid1=840863762611071
  6. If you're cleaning the tank why would you not get out the things that are in the tank? Makes the whole thing pointless IMHO. I've only done two but you could hear a fly buzzing around in those big empty cans.
  7. You might dig the rest out and put one of these in. 2nd thought. Probably easier to put a smaller one inside the remaining plastic.
  8. 280 has a solid plug, plastic. I tried to remove it but after reading I decided to leave it and grease the rack's "teeth" by hand. Here's a few threads to read. https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-americamovil-us-revc&source=android-home&source=hp&ei=K5u5Xr-qHuOm_QbikbT4BQ&q=steering+rack+plastic+plug+classiczcars.com+&oq=steering+rack+plastic+plug+classiczcars.com+&gs_lcp=ChFtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1ocBAMMgUIIRCgATIFCCEQqwI6CAgpEBYQHRAeOgQIKRAKOgIIKToGCCkQFhAeOgUIKRCRAjoFCAAQgwE6AggAOgIILjoFCC4QgwE6CAguEIMBEJMCOgYIABAWEB46BwghEAoQoAE6CAghEBYQHRAeUIQlWLS3AWDfygFoAHAAeACAAesBiAHuIJIBBjQuMjcuMZgBAKABAbABDw&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-hp
  9. I used those rubber caps and oven cleaning foam, hot water pressure wash to clean mine. Then carried it to a friend who has a transmission shop. He opened it up replaced the seals and said it looked fine. I put it in then filled with Redline MT90. Works great for my jaunts around here.
  10. Well you gotta get that crap out somehow, right?
  11. Blue, 240260280, Hoover whichinever found that one. He's good at that type goofing off type work. Edit: when he has goof off time! Damn snow and a job! Urgh...
  12. Here's the best ever!
  13. I could tell you the way I've done 2 so far with Red-kote. Cost $50 a few years ago. Muratic acid, redkote, baking soda, 5 gallons buckets and about a month to completely cure. That could be cut down to a week if you keep it in sunlight. Read over these instructions and see if you may want to try it. I can find my post from back then and let decide. It's easy but time sensutive and yoy have to get your "ducks" in a row. $$$ was my decider.
  14. The brackets changed to a higher speed "bump" upgrade. There totally different from what I've seen but it can be done.
  15. Not knowing much other than what the pros have stated I would put the bpes5 in cylinder #4 and run it, check the color. All other plugs look really good to me.
  16. I think you did good there, get away from that "Far" something or another race cam the Datsun Whisperer rebuilt it with. Here's what got past me but not these other guys about two #10s. Silly mistake but when do you know if it's a reoccurring thing. Secretary building motors?
  17. Found a good thread on this.
  18. I wrapped electrical tape around my E dipstick for my 240 until I found a better one. There's definitely a difference in a 280 vs 240. I was overfilling the 2.4 when I had a 2.8 stick in the block.
  19. I do it all the time!
  20. No chance of contact with a piston? Just trying to beat @jalexquijano's questions. Thank you Mark.
  21. You got me Captain, I thought you were kidding. It is Saturday night so...
  22. Learned something new. Thanks Mark! Is it the porcelain tip part or the overall length of the plug? Gap stays the same?
  23. I used a .22 caliber wire barrel brush from my gun cleaning kit. 5/16" on my 280. Worked good for me but was nerve wracking the way I tied it with picture hanging twisted wire. Maybe I wouldn't do it again on second thought.
