  1. I originally had the York set-up and when I pulled the Z out of stoage three years ago I converted to the new current rotary compressor. Dennis
  2. Wish I had read this yesterday before I hit the road in my Z. It started puking trans fluid at 70 mph on the freeway and is now at a transmission shop 100 miles from home. Dennis
  3. I just carry a AAA card and a cell phone. Whatever happens, happens. Dennis
  4. If you check the previous posts on the subject, you'll see that the degree of difficulty runs from about 1-11 on a 1-10 scale. I'm in the process of putting BMW seats in my '71 and it requires quite a bit of fabrication to mate the stock seat rails to the seat. The passenger seat is in and I'm working on the driver's side. In my case, no welding needed - just lots of measuring, drilling, and bolting things together. Dennis
  5. Go with A/C. If the weather is nice and you decide you don't want to use it....don't turn it on. On the other hand, if you remove it and are driving around on a hot day, your options are considerable more limited. I've had A/C on my '71 since about 1972 and never regretted it. Consider it to be a "value added" option. Dennis
  6. I've owned three of the twenty - VW Bug, 240Z, and original Mustang. Let's play, "Who Can Top That!". Dennis
  7. I have Konig Rewinds with 215/60-15s on my '71. I had a very slight rub problem between tire & stock valance on the right when turning. I probably could have done a little metal bending or trimming, but instead replaced the stock valance with a fiberglass valance with integrated lip spoiler from MSA. I thought it would be easier to trim if needed. Works just dandy as is. Dennis
  8. Boosters seem to be easier to obtain than early master cylinders. I replaced my original a few months ago with a rebuilt unit. As for the M/C replacement, this thread offers some details: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25959&highlight=replace+master+cylinder Dennis
  9. I ended up getting a newer version when I brought my '71 out of about 15 years of storage. If you're not trying to stay period correct, it's a far less expensive way to go. Just check the archive for information on reversing connections. Dennis

    Nice start! Dennis
  11. Lot's of smooth wide highways, speed limit signs are merely posted as a suggestion, and no traffic congestion..... Wait a minute, that's Utah. Dennis
  12. I can't address 16 inch wheels, but I'm pleased with the look & quality of the 15 inch Rewinds I've had for a couple years. Dennis
  13. Anything other than a chrome retractable spoils the spirit of the Z. However, opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one. It's your car, do what feels good. Dennis
  14. Nice clean fix. How has it held up and for how long? Dennis
  15. Seems like most auto repairs I've made have resulted in "Augmented Reality". :classic: Dennis
  16. For me, acceptable changes are for comfort, convenience, style, and safety. I added AC, a BRE front spoiler and headlight covers when my Z was about a year old and have recently changed to 15 inch wheels, a five speed, and am working on installing BMW seats. The nice thing about the Z hobby is that there are owners who find the car to be just fine as it left the factory and others who will replace anything that can be unbolted. There's room for everyone. Not all automobile enthusiast groups are as tolerant. Dennis
  17. While on this topic, does the trim strip come off by sliding it toward the back of the car or does it lift straight up? Dennis
  18. Has anyone tried to recast the shift pattern insert? I would think there would be a market for good reproductions. Dennis

My bad. Didn't mean to get in your way - just trying to be a responsible adult. Dennis

Unfortunately, every day I work with kids who do similar things and I see where one "innocent" act often leads to less innocent actions that result in property damage/destruction or bodily injury. The situations can generally be traced back to lack of parent involvement. The referenced link explains child endangerment and neglect - parental attitudes that tend to result in unlicensed teens driving uninsured, and possibly unsafe, cars on public streets. PM me if you haven't had a friend killed by an unlicensed uninsured driver. I'll tell you about mine. Dennis
  21. Nice look. Are they "after market" or off another car? I know what you mean about looking to the right and not having a mirror. I've often thought of adding new dual mirrors to my '71. Dennis

In case you happen to have parents, have them check this site. http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/children/abuse/cps/main.shtml Dennis
  23. Just another one of those lists you'll either love or hate. Dennis
  24. The door w/strip on my 4/71 Z is from MSA and fits quite nicely. What set did you buy that didn't work? Dennis
  25. Haven't seen them do that since the mid-1970s when I was in San Diego. Could make life interesting with my Z, the '70 Porsche, and the '63 Avanti. Dennis
