Squeege Strip Install Help
While on this topic, does the trim strip come off by sliding it toward the back of the car or does it lift straight up? Dennis

Early wooden shift knob restoration
Has anyone tried to recast the shift pattern insert? I would think there would be a market for good reproductions. Dennis

My bad. Didn't mean to get in your way - just trying to be a responsible adult. Dennis

Fun Pushing
Unfortunately, every day I work with kids who do similar things and I see where one "innocent" act often leads to less innocent actions that result in property damage/destruction or bodily injury. The situations can generally be traced back to lack of parent involvement. The referenced link explains child endangerment and neglect - parental attitudes that tend to result in unlicensed teens driving uninsured, and possibly unsafe, cars on public streets. PM me if you haven't had a friend killed by an unlicensed uninsured driver. I'll tell you about mine. Dennis

Added some mirrors
Nice look. Are they "after market" or off another car? I know what you mean about looking to the right and not having a mirror. I've often thought of adding new dual mirrors to my '71. Dennis

Kia Sportage weatherstip rocks!
The door w/strip on my 4/71 Z is from MSA and fits quite nicely. What set did you buy that didn't work? Dennis

roadside smog test?
Haven't seen them do that since the mid-1970s when I was in San Diego. Could make life interesting with my Z, the '70 Porsche, and the '63 Avanti. Dennis

Just finished putting down some sound deadening
Nice job! Looks like it would make a great tanning booth. How thick is the material? How much of the 100 square feet of insulation were left over? Dennis

Just a little donor car dilemma
I suppose much depends on how much you paid for the '73 and the true condition of its panels under the paint & crud compared to the cost of new replacement panels. Was the previous owner planning a V8 conversion? My feeling is that if the '73 is good enough to cut up for panels, it's probably good enough to save and bring back to the road in some configuration. Add me to the list of those who left Wisconsin in 1969 - Superior to be exact. Dennis

Retro Sound Install
I look forward to seeing new pictures when you have time for the installation. Glad to hear RetroSound came through for you. I thought they probably would when I originally mentioned them getting involved in post #34. They seem to be a good company. Dennis

New: member and 240 Z owner
Don't plan on any high speed runs until you replace the front & rear brake cylinders and the master cylinder. The current aftermarket master cylinders require different "plumbing" than the original '71 unit, so check message forum for insight. I went through that process with mine a few years ago and got great information from group members. Dennis

Where would you start
When I awoke my '71 from a 15 year nap a few years ago I changed all the fluids and replaced all of the brake components that come in contact with brake fluid - also the clutch cylinder. New fuel lines, belts, and spark plug wires were also on the list. Mine had been in a dry desert climate and anything made of rubber was fairly well toasted. Good luck with the project and keep us posted. Dennis

Google street view
How about just using my avatar from this message which shows my Z as "caught" by the Google Street View camera? Dennis

Refurbishing the Center Console
The original highlighting lasted about 37 years and my Sharpie redo is at about seven months and holding up well without clearcoat. Time will tell. Dennis

Retro Sound Install
Nice job! Thanks for the write up that has answered the questions many of us had about the radio and the install process. I think going with the flat black knobs was a perfect choice. I'm a little surprised that RETROSOUNDUSA hasn't joined back in the discussion and offered you a new faceplate. Dennis

Quick Exhaust Fumes Question
Have you tried closing the rear hatch on a long strip of paper (waxed paper 2 or 3 inches wide works well) and then checking to see if you can pull it out? Do this all around the hatch sealed opening and you'll find out if there are any gaps, or weak sealing points, between seal & hatch. Dennis
