You may have read this already, if so I'm sorry but it's a good read. There's some camo paint too, @Zed Head. It's my "olive" colored branch to you sir.

The power of the mask... A nurse I work with disappeared over the holidays and shows up yesterday. I see her in the break room and ask if she was on vacation? She says no, she had COVID. I asked her if her boyfriend, who she lives with got it to. Nope, we both wore masks and he slept in the spare bedroom. The masks work. Even in the same house. Oh, and wash your hands a lot.
  3. I hope everyone had a nice and safe holiday break these past few days. During that time we worked on the body in preparation for paint. Passenger quarter and fender received the first round of body work and primer. Driver’s side soon to follow.
  4. And... Am I the only one to see that this Z is upside down on the hood !!! ????? DETAILS DETAILS..... 🙄
  5. Hey, I found him in this socially distanced version... 🤪
  6. I really feel bad, as the most I have done with my Z cars lately is move them around some. Been cleaning and organizing my shop mostly. I cleared a spot between the Camaro and the 70 240Z at the back of the shop for the 72 240Z, so I can do the 140,000 mile service on the 2001 Ram 3500, two and a half gallons of oil, new air filter, replace the thermostat, pull 6 tires and wheels, inspect the brakes (gonna need new front rotors, pads and calipers soon) inspect the tires and pick all the rocks out of them, rotate and reinstall, and torque 32 lug nuts. Next up is a repair on the oldest grandsons 2013 Focus. Then oil change and service on the 1948 Ford 8N tractor. That thing is 72 years old and it just keeps on going. The Energizer Bunny has nothing on the Ford. Next up, the 1972 Kubota L260 tractor that I mow with. Oil change and service. The 6 foot finish mower needs the blades sharpened, and the PTO shaft needs greased. Can’t leave out the Kubota GR2110 diesel riding mower that Mrs. Racer mows with, oil change, sharpen blades and general service. Then the 1995 F150 Eddie Bauer needs an oil change, transmission service, and both fuel tanks replaced. By the time I get all that done my daily driver, a 2005 Subaru Legacy wagon will be ready for the 190,000 mile service. It will be due for a timing belt at 200,000 miles, so I’ll order up a belt. Then I might get back to work getting the 72 Z driveable again. After sitting for 22 years there are many things that require attention.
  7. I really need to do that replacement. I took the horn pad out of the car and brought it inside my house. Darn thing started falling off on the smallest bumps in the road. Then gets under my pedals and trying to move with a 240 seatbelt on is immposdible. They do not give any at all. I can't even use the radio while I'm driving. But I do like that feeling, kind of race car-ish.
  8. And another. Something new every day... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-datsun-280zx-18/
  9. Lashpads look OK, I’ll remove the oil spray bar today and get it soaked. Thank for the ideas, should have tube in the back can use. @Racer X wow that’s not bad at all, nice of them to get the OEM paint colour down on it too. @foosman I emailed Dale yesterday, he said it’s $140 + shipping for it to be rebuilt. Not too bad IMO. @Zup I ordered one of those thanks for the heads up, might just run it until I need the other one rebuilt. Why are there 2 grooves if this is not for AC? Is one for the smog pump? Can you not run the AC belt off the spare groove, would the ratio of the size between the crank pulley and the AC pulley be off?
  10. I've ordered a few of these. Yep---they are real. You might want to snag one while they are available. A lot cheaper than a rebuild, IMO. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Datsun-70-72-240Z-Crankshaft-Pulley/113864791592?hash=item1a82ded628:g:kucAAOSwEC5dYZRA They are drilled for balance just like the originals and have tapped holes for the additional pulley groove if you need it for A/C.
  11. And a couple of gauges, looks like OM22 in the catalogue above and VCM22 repectively (both currently on Yahoo); VCM22
  12. WHAT is it?? Oh impossible.. 😂 Hihi.. yeah I got a 4 point safety harness in my 240z.. moving forward or any other direction is about impossible.. (The orig. are also in it but i never use those.) Happy new year to you all! Mart.
  13. Recent events find this version redundant. Very redundant
  14. Quick update for this topic! Sent the trans out to a Z specialist in the Carolinas for inspection and rebuild. Main bearing was shot, but otherwise everything else was in ideal condition. Posting some before /after pictures for our mutual gratification. Before: Missing a few: After:
  15. If you pay careful attention when drilling, you can tell when you have drilled through the first layer. Sometimes there will be a dark little rust line between sheets. Yeah, don't drill all the way through if possible. ⅜ should be fine. Sometimes I use a putty knife or a painters 5 way tool to finish separating layers
  16. I cleaned mine with lacquer thinner too but when I installed it I noticed that all oil holes were not squirting oil equally. I used a torch tip file to clean the holes. All was well after that.
  17. That Jethro could sure play that flute! Ole Pink had a great voice too.

site: Way back sometime maybe 25 years before the last millennium ended, I was riding my Suzuki Water Buffalo and a friend was riding his RD350. We decided to switch rides. We immediately jump on the two lane road and right away he whips around the car holding us up. I follow in quick pursuit. Sort of. I whip out into the lane of oncoming traffic and hit the throttle hard. Nothing.... As I look down the road, I see many large cars heading my way and closing FAST. So I kick it down one and twist that throttle for all it's worth. Nothing...The cars, it seems, are getting really close. So I kick it down again and open it up and holy crap, that f'ing lit up like it had a rocket booster up its arse. I just hung on and we shot past everything around us, and in the nick of time. I'd forgotten my buddy had race prepped his engine. Apparently it was his plan that it not turn on until it was at five grand. I guess there was no reason to share that with me. 😆 Ahh, the good ole days. Once again, sorry to temporarily hijack this thread. I couldn't resist after seeing the RD.
  19. Here is something a little different.
  20. I used a piece of PVC tube with lacquer thinner. Worked good after soaking a couple off days. Then blew it out with my air compressor. If you ever have to paint a bunch of staircase balusters this the way to go, BTW.

Well SOB! I made my offer, he didn't accept now it's gone. Probably for the best knowing my history with two wheeled go fast things.
  22. Here are some links to in-car videos of real racing in old cars, just in case you've never seen that kind of thing before:
  23. Hey Cliff, First - Happy New Year, I hope you and yours remain safe in the coming months. Here's a pic of a recent horn pad repair I did. I opened a channel around the plastic collar with a small Dremel grinding bit, then added a light wire collar to tighten the cracks. Tighten some, check for fit, tighten more as might be required. Jim
  24. Comes with 7 crates of "stuff" AND ECT ECT. Looks like it will be quite a while before the price starts climbing. 1971 gen 1 240z ready for paint. cut out all rust new pans, fenders, hood, new dog legs, rocker, hatch sill ECT ECT. Got all parts to put interior back. Plus 2 sets of wheels extra doors, fender, seats, 7 crates of stuff. To many projects. Price will go up as I near completion. Choose your color now
  25. Love the recliner, eh?
  26. Jumping on this thread, Please forgive me. The first photo of the sight shield is what I’m attempting to remove. I bought a spot weld cutter from ZCD. Drilled out the first spot weld and the bracket is still attached solid. Can anyone shed some light on this before I attempt the others? Here’s a pic of the first weld I removed and the next weld that I have not attempted. Appreciate the guidance. John
  27. and.. The two tabs are for a german (or whatever) licenseplate. and the rear one is not screwed on because the place is needed for the real german plate.. The front Japanese plate is just for fun installed there, everybody knows (In Germany) this is a fake plate.. It is just an additional confirmation that it is about a Japanese car As long the 2 German plates are installed on the right spot, the german authorities will have no problem with it.. i think?
  28. Nice. When the "foot" faces in, as with the M8 coach bolts I got from a hardware store ( where d1 was 20mm) meant the "hoop and rivet") made getting the bolt into the square hole impossible. Machining 1mm means a fit.

Damn it! I will figure out a way to get that. Oh Zed Head....I'll get you one of these days. You rascal!
  30. I'm late on the cleaning, sorry, but those rubber caps from Lowes worked good for me during that. Foam oven cleaner from Walmart worked good too. Oh yeah, a wire cup brush on a drill was helpful.
  31. The chassis brace fits well and also seems like there is more stability in the street driving i did today... I made some cup holders that matched some Porsche style ones i saw in the UK last year. They fit well, I can do a run of them if people are interested, I need to test them out a little more, I'm not sure how a thermos would do, but a large coke from in-in-out should fit. I like them on the firewall side, seems out of way from peoples feet. Edit* looks like i hit the submit button too many times, i tried to delete the old posts, but i only see a `hide` option hopefully it worked.
  32. Lucky it came off easily. I wonder how it would look if you cleaned off the residue and buffed it. You might be able to hold off paint for a while by doing that? You could say it was a custom pin stripe from the PO ?.
