  1. The cat is overcome with a severe case of static electricity today.
  2. Doh!!! Of course you would want to see the inside. Silly me, yes it looks like a small record player inside there. Lots of pins in the plug for all the different input signals to tell it which track to play. "ding" " You forgot to load the pictures" "ding" Ha ha
  3. My buddy's 78 280z near mint low mile all original Z will be following this one. Hopefully there are enough buyers out there.
  4. Well, I can comment about this, but it will sound like the setup for a dystopian novel. So here goes..... There are people who think oil will last forever; I have spoken to them and marveled at how resistant to reality they are. The fact is, oil is a finite resource. I've often wondered if the US really, truly wants to hurry and deplete its oil supply, because when oil starts to run out, I expect a major world war to be fought over the remaining oil. (Very dystopian, right??) At that point, it would be a lot better for the US to have the remaining supply than to be one of the outsiders trying to get at it. But no, we need to tap our oil as fast and as thoroughly as possible, which at some remote time will leave us totally dependent on other countries for oil, IF (and this is a big IF) oil is still the most standard energy source at that time. It sure would make more sense for us to transition away from oil well before that happens. The bad news is that there's a basic truth: oil will run out IF we keep using it. So if you don't want to have a dystopian novel on your hands, it makes perfect sense to pursue electricity, solar, hydrogen, fusion energy, and wireless transmission of energy through the radio spectrum. Part II (or alternative scenario) of that little situation springs from the scarcity of rare metals and their critical use in all kinds of electrical battery packs. (This is real, and is A Thing even today!) Just as an aside, the US has very few of the rare metals that are needed for those batteries that we currently use in cell phones and other portable devices. I could easily set up a different dystopian novel around the fight for access to the rare metals needed to support the use of electronic devices and transportation, and that novel could be set in the next 30 years. Now that I've ruined your day with the setup for two dystopian novels about prophesized world war, I'll go have my second cup of coffee. Maybe that will cheer me up.
  5. Some sk stack polishing going down.
  6. This 280Z belongs in a museum! That way, more people can see this beauty versus having the car sit in some collector's garage.
  7. Not really surprising. It's a museum piece...
  8. That's one of the reasons why we're heading back to the moon, despite the agreements that were signed 60 yrs ago about no country claiming mineral rights or territory on the moon, you can bet your life that if a cost effective way is found there will be mining.
  9. I also utilized a lot of the stock wiring to integrate my signals from the ECU and its relays for power to the ECU, power to the fuel pump, etc. For the check engine light, I repurposed the choke light.
  10. We were very fortunate with this Z and the little amount of rust it had on the body. The one area that needed to be replaced over the entire floorboard area was a small section in the passenger foot well. Based on the isolated area of rust here, it was most likely from the dealer AC system that was installed in the car. The rusted area was cut out, surrounding metal cleaned, a patch panel replicated, welded back in, and smoothed down for a seamless transition. In the process of welding it back in we replicated the factory spot welds so that it looked as it did when the car was first assembled.
  11. You mean these? Nissan still has these believe it or not. Edit, they're painted now. The vinyl wrap caused rust.
  12. @Brunodoggy, I just want to note how much I have enjoyed your story and comments throughout the thread. You were thoughtful and polite, gave us tons of great info, were courteous to the doubters and naysayers, and overall had a class approach to this really interesting and unique opportunity. I'm glad it has turned out so well for you, and I hope you have a set of memories that will last a lifetime.
  13. Here's where I landed on the brake stuff...I got the Wilwood 1" master and an 8.5" booster with a conversion mounting kit to prevent modifying the firewall. Here's a link to the booster for anyone interested: https://jdm-car-parts.com/products/datsun-240z-8-5-inch-brake-booster-upgrade-kit-for-1969-1972?variant=2376693317641 I'm keeping all the original parts in case I want to revert back to stock at some point so thank you for the tip on who can rebuild the booster. Here's a picture of the brake items ready to be installed after I address the clutch master cylinder.
  14. Thank you so much. I have worked hard on this car because I love it. I didn't really have any idea how much it would be worth - especially since it's a 280Z and not the coveted 240Z. It hasn't been about money, but the worth of it as a unique car. Saying that, the money is an amazing confirmation that this is a special car, deserving of the work that has been put into it. Steve
  15. "Ding" ... " I thank you very much " ... "Ding" !! 🙂 Nice pictures! and it's all so clean inside after almost 40 years!! "ding" " Back on topic " "Ding".... 👩‍🦰
  16. She's a beauty! You don't see the 110 Red paint color very often. Good luck to your buddy - I think that his 280Z will do very well with the auction.
  17. So why should we have environmental restrictions in the US that they don't impose in other countries? Someone answered that question earlier... "US, Europe are the cleanest on the planet, and have improved drastically." Sounds like if you want to live in the cleanest part of the world, you have to work at it and pay for it. If you allow a free-for-all with no restrictions, you get what people are complaining about in other parts of the world. There are compromises between many competing priorities that have to be made in order to enjoy the benefits. And I agree with several of the posters above when it comes to classic cars. I have zero fear that there will be restrictions on my use of my classic Z that would hamper my use of it. I'm not alarmist. I'm not worried about my Z.
  18. Betty box from my 82ZX parts car.
  19. Yours are working. I meant Jeff Berk's other posts when I pasted his bipod link. He had tagged on to pogden's thread.
  20. Oh, I also found I had 2 sets of Nissan hoses...in addition to the set I just purchased...And I'm still trying to figure out why I took a camshaft someone offered me...at least I think it was given to me...I don't recall buying a camshaft...or that Helix fuel line (According to Amazon that was 3 years ago.)
  21. The scientists aren't always right though. Anyone remember "peak oil theory"? Gas prices are supposed to be so high now due to limited supply that we all want electric vehicles just so we can afford to get around.
  22. 1 point
Thanks to everyone for the help. Especially to @heyitsrama and @jonbill for the detailed analysis and suggested corrective actions. I passed them on to our Sys. Admin. and he was able to implement the cure. 🙂
