If I ever do it again tape will be used. I did put rubber fender washers under the bolts. Keeps the spoiler off the paint.

Awe, come-on! How about doing the repair properly and NOT being one of those POs we diss quite often! A rubber expansion type of freeze plug is only a temporary repair. This is precisely what this community wishes to discourage. Sorry, hon, your head is damaged and it's going to have to come off to repair it properly as the manufacturer intended. Otherwise, it's just a hack repair. Besides, once you get the head off, you'll be able to perform a lot more maintenance that the head probably needs. You get to work on your car more. You won't scratch your firewall any more than you probably already have. And you'll probably learn something. Be brave, fix it right!

Bumper skiing was our favorite danger, after a fresh layer of snow before the plough trucks came out we would hitch rides all over the suburbs of Vancouver on the back or sides of the city buses. We stopped skiing cars cause they could get out and chase you too easily, but bus drivers had to run the length of the bus first giving us lots of time to get away, then when he started moving again we would latch on and continue our ride.

Made good use of the weather with a run up to Ramona. Miles and smiles.

I have had a plan to swap out the non-original motor in my car with the original, correct motor at some point and decided it was time to do it. I have been very happy with how the motor has been running, just want the number correct motor in it. First little problem I found was a broken cam oiler tube. This is very common and as I had checked the valve settings this spring and saw no problem then it is a fairly new problem. I have another oiler to replace it. The next problem was a bit disappointing. It seems I have developed a crack in my E30 non-emission exhaust manifold. The second photo shows the pattern of the exhaust on the back side of the heat shield. Now to decide if I try to weld it myself or pay someone to do it.

Good point on the rubber washers Site. I used rubber “O” rings under each bolt......not only does it keep the spoiler off the paint, but allows water to pass through for drying purposes and by sealing the bolts, it keeps water out of the holes in the deck.

We're in the same boat...mine definitely sweeps OK, it just sweeps the span from full to empty out of scale, if that makes any sense. Plus the car has been running rich so it chugs the fuel like no tomorrow. That was dealt with this weekend. Anyway I am going to pull it out perhaps this weekend and run the car out of gas at the house. Then pull the sender and see what's up. It is all in the "as full restored" state and was a brand new sender when the tank was boiled, etc, during the restoration. Unfortunately I simply threw the original sending unit away long ago...cheers.

I know this isn’t TV or Movies but there is an article in the April 2019 Road and Track about Zs. The article says the name Datsun came from when Masujiro Hashimoto of Kwaishinsha Motors named his first automotive effort DAT. The first four letters of his three backers, Den, Aoyama and Takeuchi. Oh man, we used to skate from San Francisco State University all the way down to pier 39, did it one time and lost my buddies board in the water, slipped through the metal fence at the pier. Was even thinking about it happening, as I watched it slip through and fade into the greenish water below. Drunk skating is not too bad especially if you have a board like Patcons, they just glide. Another time I was waiting for the bus, slipped off and landed on my chin. good times, I need to finish my car up and drive it to skimboard. The hours we go at make for good photos.

The soft suspension could be a combination of old bushings and old struts. Most of these bushing are available new in rubber from Nissan. Switching to poly bushings can make it too harsh. Some prefer poly Mushy brakes is normally air but could be swelling rubber flexible lines, failing seals or excess adjustment in the rear drums The combo switches can be cleaned and are getting rare. So if the one you have can be repaired all the better

Just remembered that 77 has the space saver spare tire. Comes with a canister of air, to fill an expanding rubber tire, made of 40+ year old rubber. Most people switch to a smaller import "real tire and wheel. That is one thing that might be a trip killer. Flat tires are common. I don't know that I'd trust that tiny expanding thing in the spare tire well. Has anyone ever actually used one of those, after 40 years? Maybe take a can of "Fix-a-Flat".

Cast iron is notoriously hard to weld. Doable but it takes the correct approach and the right welding rods or wire
