Electric fan or new fan clutch/shroud for my 240z?
Other than my last suggestion, Personally I think you’re throwing money away continuing in the same path. You asked my opinion and at this point it’s all I have to offer. Wish you the best of luck.

That particular type of tool needs to be dead on accurate. Even custom lines you buy tend to leak and they are made with high end hydraulic equipment with precise dies. I personally don’t feel this is one you want to try to scrimp on.

Great job troubleshooting and yes this will help someone in the future. Any insight to issues fellow Z owners have on this particular topic will definitely help. Thanks for the breakdown.

Electric fan or new fan clutch/shroud for my 240z?
Your best bet although costly would be to ship the car to “Eiji” at Datsun Spirit in Manassas Virginia and your issues will be resolved. What ever it takes it will be fixed. Done deal

You continue not to answer questions/guidance and suggestions for the tests we have presented and asked for. You’re not contributing on your end to diagnose the problem.

Fuel pump voltage
My gut tells me he will find corrosion or a bad ground at the relay.

Electric fan or new fan clutch/shroud for my 240z?
Friend, turn the car on let it idle for how ever long it takes for ac clutch engagement/aux fan engagement. Then check your tach. If the hood is open it’s going to take longer for the engine to heat up and fan to engage. Spend some time into watching and listening to what the engine is doing. Sitting in traffic and trying to figure out what’s happening is impossible to diagnose. Not sure what you’re asking here other than the components that create amperage draw on the alternator which directly coordinates with rpm dropping. Modern cars have a solenoid that bumps the throttle up when the ac is engaged. My two cents.

If he’s getting less than 12 at the harness disconnected, I would guess it’s a problem up stream.

The outlet he has in his hand has 5 outlets and the bypass is installed. I still don’t think this is a S30 housing. Did we get clarification if this is a ZX motor? It has the intake blower as well. Good chance it goes to the blower motor.

Never seen that before. Looks like it maybe a sensor for an electric fan. Do you have a ZX engine in your 280Z?

Picked up a 78 280z today. PROS & CONS with some Pics.
Shop Bosch Ev1 connectors. I found some for around $7 each but don’t think they came with the boots. Do yourself a huge favor and change every single one. Knock that critical variable out of the way. You won’t believe how much green corrosion has creeped up the wire.

Here’s the Bosch Ev1 connector I used. Bought them off Amazon. Gone up a bit in price in the past 3 years. https://www.amazon.com/Bosch-1287013003-Fuel-Injector-Connector/dp/B001CNZF7W
