Rear end gear ratio, and differential identification
As stated above with the age of these cars there is no telling what has been replaced/swapped out so the best bet is a personal inspection. I completely agree with the removal of the rear diff cover and reading the numbers on the gears, this is by far the best and most accurate method...though there are others as mentioned above. Also, as for the difference between the R180 and R200 take a look at this thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4270&highlight=r180+r200+difference Then just for fun you may also want to read up on this thread as there is a ton of good information in it including a list of what diff came STOCK in which car: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1568&pp=15 Lastly, I just want to suggest that you use the search feature of this site as there is SOOOOO much great information here already and the majority of questions have already been asked and answered...repeatedly in many cases. I'm not coming down hard on you or anything just helping you learn about the site and Z cars...there's a wealth of information and help on this forum, in my opinion this is the best Z car site on the web!

Not a Datsun..But it's Japanese!
That car looks a little 'weathered' so good luck to the new owner in finding parts in the states for that one. :disappoin Lots of work and expense it seems; even more so than our Z's.

Speed Racer Movie
I had heard about the movie a while back and nothing since...interested in seeing it when/if it comes out though! I have the complete 52-episode Speed Racer collection on a collectors edition DVD set that was available a few years back. As for the question about the car, the base would be a Corvette. It's already been done! I wish I had all of my bookmarks with me (I'm in a hotel not at home where my bookmarks are). You guys just need to do a little Google searching. Here are a couple links I found: http://www.sussexcountyonline.com/news/columns/cars/carreviews/speedracer.html http://www.petersen.org/default.cfm?DocId=1813&CarID=258 http://favoritetoons.com/speed-racer.php http://www.speedracer.com

OT-Carl Stahlnecker Died June 16th
Wow! :surprised Thank you for the post Chris, I had no idea. I have missed his posts on this site for a long time now, he was such a wealth of information and always willing to help and answer even the simplest of questions (no matter how stupid they may have been...I know because when I was new here I asked my fair share!). We will all miss you and everything you contributed to us all.

Sport Z Mag. Closing Down
SportZ, I just went to the old site and all links indicate that it's closing up. What I was looking for is if there are any back issues available for purchase? Please let me know ASAP as I'm certain that things will be moving very quickly at this point as far as people moving and office space being vacated etc.

Yellow sway bar
There is always the possibility that the previous owner had it painted/powdercoated yellow. Just something to keep in mind.

Transmission popping out of gear...
Time for a visit to the tranny shop. I had a car popping out of gear once and it turned out that there was a 'bur' on the cog for the gear it was popping out of. You should also check out this thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20158

starter motor compatability
Will, do you have a Nissan part number on the gear reduction starter and the specific years (and engine configuration if applicable) that these were in originally? I'd like one and don't want to get screwed by a new parts guy that just pulls any old Z starter and not the gear reduction model. Also, are there any physical differences that are obvious which I could look for (pix would be great!)?

Ebay scammer
Then my other suggestion would be to see about contacting the Visa/Mastercard issuer and see what they are willing to do...if anything. And that's of course providing that PayPal will disclose that information to you, which they probably will not. Don't give up!
-
Ebay scammer
Appeal PayPal's decision and show the new information where he has done this to many others and see if they will change their minds.

Hex bolts used under the hood
If you have a spare and want to mail me one I'll go check the local nut & bolt supply house for a stainless steel one for you. Heck, if they carry them maybe I'll become a reseller of them for the club since they seem to be so hard to come by.

any racers in here?
To address your suspension question there are a few options, I have gone the Tokico route, others have gone other routes including coilovers from places like Arizona Z car. Go check out the Suspension forum on this site and you will find a ton of information on this subject.

Triple SU set up at the Nationals
Carl, I must say that was quite a write up! I must also admit that I didn't read it all and yet I still have a question. This information indicates that the triple SU setup is a poor idea and does not add to the performance of the car. My question is then why are there so many racers using a triple carb setup with Webbers, Solex, Mikuni, etc? If the triple setup is no better why do the racers not know this? My guess has to do with the differences in the type of carbs we are talking about...though I'm no expert and thus my curiosity.

Hex bolts used under the hood
TomoHawk, you are not listening. Lowe's and Home Depot are not the kinds of stores you should be shopping at, nor are Ace Hardware, Manard's, or ANY other hardware store!!! You need to either check out the dealership, a specialty Z place as you already have, or go to a nut & bolt house. Even then you may find it difficult to source the exact part you want. The nut & bolt house is your BEST bet though I think. Believe me, I have already gone down this road a few times, and not just with the Z with things like weedeaters that use a left-hand thread in an odd metric size, etc. Look in the phone book, talk to some people, just find the nut & bolt house(s) in your area and pay them a visit with an example of what you need in hand and they will help you locate it. Should there not be such a place in your area, and in a large city like you are I'd be shocked, then your next best choice is to find such places on the internet.

Spare tire hold down
Mine looks the same and fits alright, though I have the good ol' steel wheel as a spare. The board does not fit quite flush due to the tire width though, it's a bit wider than stock. Note: on mine the issue is the tire, not the rim.

Repair or replace Oil Pan?
If I recall correctly the oil pan from '70-83 were all the same except for on the turbo engines so yes they are interchangeable. I would just pick up a used one to replace the one you have, a whole lot cheaper and should be very easy to source (check eBay I saw one there this week, or I'm sure that someone on the forum has a few spares available).
