Aaahhhhh.......thank you for that clip!!! I saw one of these up close and personal on 8/9 when attending a wedding at a local downtown hotel....BEAUTIFUL CAR!!! It was even silver just like the one in the clip.

I agree, very intriguing!! As for pressing the zoning issue et al...this is perfectly valid, though a bit dodgy as mentioned. It's nothing I was not already thinking of, nor is it a tactic I have not considered when after purchasing a deteriorating house in an upscale neighborhood where I live. I'd have been doing the neighbornood a favor by buying the house and fixing it up. Fun-in-my-z... I think you're just a bit defensive because you have had people complain about your parents place so it's a littl close to home for you. Bottom line, if zoning (or lack of permits, etc) does not allow it you ARE in violation of the law and should rightfully get in trouble. If you don't like hearing this...well tough. You're building a street car right? I'd keep the spare! I don't see any advantage to removing the spare tire well and all the other work associated with it. Yours has no rust...keep it right where it is. Just my 2 cents.

I don't remember off hand other than it was POR-15. I could look over the weekend if that would help you.

I used POR Putty to fill in the holes, sanded it all down, then used POR-15 products over the area.

Not quite on the 3.9 in the truck...do a search and you should find some posts with these answeres. I do not remember exact years off hand at the moment though do know that the 3.9 was only in the truck for 6 months before going to the 4.11 (it was the first 1/2 of a year, I just do not recall the year). I have one in storage and next time I'm in the area of the diff I'l see if I can pull the year off it from where the junk yard labeled it.

From what I recall from when I was in to big car audio if the whine goes up as the RPMs do this is an alternator issue...basically in many cases you have an improper ground loop. This can be resolved by finding a better ground point. The other option is to hit the car stereo store and get a filter for the noise (had to do this in an old Honda back in the late '80s).

Will, it's amazing how life changes... Since I bought the car in '03 I have had two children and a major career change all resulting in far less time and money than I had when I started. No worries though, I am NOT getting rid of the car nor giving up on it...my plans have just been drawn out a bit longer than expected. In short, no I have not got the new engine to put this in and test yet.

Not hardly! #27 just sold what was it 2 years ago I believe...now we have #51 and #305. There have been a couple others over the past few years as well. This is hardly a once in a lifetime occurance. Rare yes, once in a lifetime NO!

Arne, no worries of being branded as old...though I do not know your age. Speed Racer was the first Japanimation show to hit the US back in the '60s and there is still a very strong following. If you don't know Speed Racer then you likely will not care that there is a movie. For those who know and liked the cartoon it's kinda cool to see it coming back around in a new incarnation some 40+ years later. There is no way, of course, that is can ever compare with the original...as is usually the case with most things.
