  1. Nice job! I'm sure you'll have eager customers if you decide to expand production. And you did this all in your spare time? Dennis
  2. I think a lot of people watch just for the crashes, but may not admit it. There was talk at one time a few years ago of having electric cars make an artificial amplified noise so pedestrians would be aware of them if crossing a street without first looking both ways. You're correct in noting silent racing wouldn't be as fun for most of us as a spectator sport. But, I'm sure there are hearing impaired (deaf) individuals who love to go to the races. Dennis
  3. It just hooks under the protruding lip forward of the battery tray. Since my battery is shorter than the original, I added a painted one inch board under the battery to bring it up to the height of the firewall attachment point for the top hold down frame. Dennis
  4. Just got back from the local Nissan dealer. Today, an older parts specialist was behind the counter. I gave him the part number for the float bowl gasket that was NLA yesterday. He looked it up and asked how many hundred I wanted. I ordered three at $1.70 each and they'll be here Thursday morning. Lesson learned: Always ask for the "old guy" behind the counter when ordering vintage Z parts at the Nissan dealership. Dennis
  5. Thanks! I'll give it another try at the local dealer. Dennis
  6. I went to my local Nissan dealer's parts department today to see if I could order a couple float bowl gaskets and the young guy behind the counter says they are NLA. Anyone gotten them from a dealer lately? (part# 16064-22010) I see that they're available from a few places on line, including Courtesy Nissan, but i hate to pay almost $10 shipping on a $1.25 gasket if I can get them locally. I've had better luck with the older parts guy at the dealership in tracking down Datsun parts. Dennis
  7. I'm going to get a couple new gaskets for the float bowls before I open them up and then, hopefully, clean the crud and corruption around the valve to fix the problem. The last thing I need is an EXTERNAL combustion engine. Dennis
  8. My Datsun adventure of the day was to figure out why my '71, which has been sitting for a while, was puking gas onto the hot exhaust pipe below the carbs. Looks like I'll be taking the float bowls apart for a thorough cleaning. Dennis
  9. I had one just like #3 when I lived in Northern Wisconsin. Haven't seen another since I moved to the southern California desert about 40 years ago. Dennis
  10. For me, life is too short to ponder ways to refill toothpaste tubes. But, beer cans..........and how to reseal those pesky pull tabs........now there's a challenge. Dennis
  11. As you said..........Move on. The 2K price has 30+ years of the owner's emotional ties and memories factored in. Dennis
  12. Welcome to the group! Always good to see another '71 being appreciated. Dennis
  13. That could be a little touchy as it's a legal vehicle identifier linked to the title. Hopefully someone has gone through the process and can give you some pointers. Good luck! Dennis
  14. As another measure of comparison, what's the difference in price? Dennis
  15. A lot of thought went into that project. I guess that if you want a hot rod and you don't have a '32 Ford to start with, you use what you have. Dennis
  16. Nice job on the steering wheel! It looks like new, as far as I remember Keep the tips coming. Dennis
  17. With all the other issues (not running, salvage title, can't pass SMOG, etc.), I'd also question the "rust free" claim on a 44 year old car from Chicago. Looking at the value/cost of all the replaced parts and seals that are listed, getting it running is the only way to recoup any of of the money that's been poured onto it, other than parting it out. That should be job #1 at this point. Dennis
  18. To answer your question.........Sounds like a $1.500 Z as it sits. Dennis
  19. And if the feature was instead titled "Pick The One That Doesn't Belong Here" which one would you name? Dennis
  20. Just needs a battery and a little rubbing compound to bring out the shine in the paint. Well, maybe a title, too. What could go wrong? Dennis
  21. Gas price dropped 20 cents a gallon since yesterday here in the SoCal desert. Now at $1.99. A few more days like that and we'll be below a dollar a gallon! I never thought I'd see sub $2 gas again. The experts seem to think low prices will be around for a while. Dennis
  22. My 4/71 one owner Z has not had the panel removed since it was originally installed in Japan. The fasteners are six plastic rivets same as used to hold interior plastic panels (one in each corner and two in the middle edges as in the picture in an earlier post) and four black Philips head screws in black cup washers in the positions shown in the earlier picture. I wonder why they used screws and rivets instead of one or the other - preferably screws as I've had three or four rivets pop out over the last 44 years. Dennis
  23. "Nature friendly" fuel could be hydrogen, natural gas, or even farm animal waste. Ask your friend where he fills up his tank. Dennis
  24. If the new owner has it sand blasted to get rid of the rust, all that will be left will be the windows and the tires. Craigslist ads can be soooo entertaining. Dennis
  25. Looking at the form mentioned on the DMV web site, it seems that they only release the name of the current registered owner on file, not the complete history back to original owner. Perhaps I'm wrong. Anyone ever use this search option recently? Dennis
