  1. My rebuilt carbs from ZTherapy were delivered by UPS at about 7:00 last night. This morning I took a couple pictures (because they will never look this shiny again) and then took them to my mechanic for installation and tuning.   6. So, if you take a sheet of the alloy and press/deform it into the shape of a car fender, what keeps it from turning back into a flat sheet of the alloy? Dennis
  7. That looks like the connector minus the rubber hood. Cost for 2 is 48 cents plus $24 shipping. I'll keep looking locally or try your solder suggestion. Thanks! Dennis
  8. I replaced the fuel level sender in my '71 Zs gas tank. In the process the two wiring harness connectors that fit on the sender's contact points were found to be unusable due to the rubber caps being as hard as a rock. I checked with the Parts Department at the local Datsun dealer and the parts guy was unable to find a picture or part number for the plugs. Anyone know a part number or a suitable substitute for the connectors? Dennis
  9. Forty-five years ago I traveled around in India in a Hindustan Ambassador (1956 British Morris Oxford clone) and the traffic scared the snot out of me. Can't imagine I was any safer in that Ambassador than I would be today in the new Datsun. But, at least I'd have seatbelts in the Datsun. I think the crash in the video was at 40 mph. No idea about what would be left if one hit a moving Big Rig at 60 mph. I clearly see why cars in the US cost more and keep me safer. Dennis

PPG (Pittsburgh Plate Glass) is still in business, #190 on the top 500 businesses, and is now called PPG Industries due to its diverse line of products ranging from eyeglass lenses to paint to Liquid Nails, as well as glass products. PGW ( http://www.pgwglass.com ) is listed as a Polish company that supplies glass to most of the major auto manufacturers in US & Europe. If you go to the PPG web site and type PGW in the search box, noting is found, indicating no relationship. A mystery..... Dennis

  13. Wheels and a front air dam are changes you mentioned that can be easily reversed if you, or a future owner, tire of the look or function. As for swapping the rear brake shoes for calipers and rotors, I've never been tempted. My Z has reliably stopped quite nicely using its front disc and rear drum brakes for 44 years. I doubt that I'll wear out, and need to change, the current rear brake shoes in my lifetime. Jarvo2's suggestions above are a solid way to start as you get to know your "new" Z. Dennis
  14. I have three cars insured with "classic car" coverage. Only one has historic car CA license plates. No need to designate your car as historic. You just have to live with the limits a classic policy places on vehicle use - like annual miles driven, garaged, not used as daily driver. Dennis

Since my Z is sitting at my mechanic's shop for the next few weeks while we wait for the ZTherapy carbs to arrive, I'm also having him drop the gas tank, clean it out, install a new fuel sender, install a new gas tank filler tube, and replace the hoses for the vapor recovery tank. After driving it for 44 years, I think it's about time. Dennis

  17. As I mentioned on that thread, I was surprised to see that Mike & Edd connected with him to supply parts rather than one of the many other reputable Z parts suppliers in SoCal. It appears they did their vendor research on his web site rather than checking what others have had to say over the years. Dennis
  18. Ordered a set of SU carbs from ZTherapy this morning. If I can run them as long as I ran the originals, they should keep me and the Z on the road until I'm 112. There's a 30 day waiting list for delivery that I hope goes by quickly. My mechanic suggested a Weber conversion kit, but I prefer to stick with SUs. Dennis
  19. Called AAA to have my Z taken to my mechanic's shop. Not sure what the problem is, but it's beyond the scope of my trouble shooting and fixing skills. Time to let a pro help me get it back on the road. Dennis
  20. I always get a little concerned when a seller starts out be telling you he's honest. On a scale of 1 to 10, isn't everybody? That aside, $4,000 seems a bit high for this one. Looks like a total redo with a little "undo" of the rear mud flaps and adjacent Bondo. I live in the area near the Z and if it has been sitting outside or even covered for the last 35 years, everything not made of metal is going to be dried out and crumbling. It may be a nice shell for a total restoration, depending on how much body filler is under the paint, but I see it more as a $2K car. I, too, am being totally honest.

  22. Go with the rechromed bumpers and new rubber trim. The $400 difference wIll seem insignificant when your project is complete and the Z looks like new. Dennis
