2 pointsIf you are talking about the heating element on O2 sensors, that's there just to get them up to operating temperature (~600F http://www.autotap.com/techlibrary/understanding_oxygen_sensors.asp). After a few minutes, I don't think you don't need it. A good discussion of O2 placement can be found here. My original idea for including a Rraspberry Pi was to add a G-meter. Not because it adds any diagnostics, but it's cool. My son's 2020 Type N has a factory one in his dash.2 points- Air / Fuel Meter Recommendations

I'm a bit disappointed Biden didn't thank Trump for his part in the record voter turnout. He shouldn't have taken all the credit.2 points- Future of driving a "classic" car
2 pointsAsia, South Asia, Africa, Norther Russia are ecological disasters, and have been for decades. US, Europe are the cleanest on the planet, and have improved drastically, case in point, LA Basin. Climate change has now become a religious crusade, and some parts of the US Government have taken on the same mantra. The tax burden proposed on the US taxpayer has reached in some estimates 100 trillion. India alone is a lost cause when it comes to changing anything pertaining to pollution, green house gases, etc. My argument, how does one nation change everything we know about carbon emission change the abhorrent behavior of places like China, India, Africa, when the US is already the cleanest its ever been? You can drive your electric car mandated by the government and never burn another gallon of gas, but that does nothing globally. You will get your clean air at the school yard, but that about it. Places like Delhi are the rotten apple in the bunch, theres no fix over there. Cities in the middle of China with the giant manufacturing plants, theres no fix there either. The governments, Eco-social conditions wont (cant) allow the massive change mandated by the initiative. I believe just like the war on drugs, where billions and billions are spent to wage that war, will mirror the war on climate. Normal daily life hangs in the balance.2 points- Future of driving a "classic" car

2 pointsI just pulled the trigger on an MTX-AL. I'm assuming I'll eventually be in the market for something with more features (and a bigger price tag). But for now, baby steps. Thanks for the generous offer, but I'll install my simple gauge first and see what happens. If it were safe to have company right now, I'd be on my way up to spend some time with you. Hopefully soon my friend!2 points- Trump and political comments, opinions, supported by fact or not

My vote would be not to have political rants on this site. I have always thought that this site, just like sports is an escape from the political B.S. Please find a political site to your liking and do your venting there.2 points- Trump and political comments, opinions, supported by fact or not

1 pointYou know, I strongly suspect that many a girl has at some point explained that diagram to some guy! ;) On a serious note though, that’s a GREAT tip - i assume its to it keep the water droplets from staying inside and messing with things. But I don’t get the not totally vertical orientation. Any thoughts?1 point- Trump and political comments, opinions, supported by fact or not
For sure, this is a car site, a very specialised car site, with a fairly small community of regular posters. The primary reason we all come here is our passion for the Datsun Z. We get to know each other, some even meeting up for a beer or coffee. And we all know what happens when people start talking politics. Discussions degrade into flame wars, people get butt hurt, hold their breath, clench their fists, stomp their feet and hurl a insults, behaving like children. But I wouldn't be opposed to having one place where things political could be discussed, in an adult and mature manner. Keep it simple, never get personal with comments, and no one is allowed to get butt hurt.1 point- Air / Fuel Meter Recommendations

So DC871F (actually, having just been watching the Rise of Skywalker, your handle sounds very Storm Trooper!) - apologies for my insomnia rant. I figure I’ve taken you off topic a little as your post is really about driving classic cars not all cars. When I was working in India back in 2008/9, I could see all that you are saying first hand. So could they, as you couldn’t even take a good enough photo of the Taj Mahal in the summer given the haze of pollution. At the time, they started making some efforts by forcing the most common and polluting city vehicles (the three wheeled tuck tucks) onto liquid natural gas. In 2019 they launched their National Clean Air Programme - but as you point out, they have quite a hill to climb. China has “recently” realised that the cost of pollution is too high and unsustainable, so it too has made strides - without spelling it out, here’s a good read ... https://earth.org/how-china-is-winning-its-battle-against-air-pollution/ Their problem of course (much like the rest of the manufacturing world) is the heavy industries like steel are difficult to curtail as they bring jobs and prosperity. Obviously time will tell how truthfully all these initiatives have been implemented. I feel that given the stature of countries like the US and the likes of the European Union on the world stage they really need to be the leading lights on this issue and lead by example. One of many reasons why the Biden approach compared with his predecessor is very welcomed by those who are concerned for the future of the environment. As for classic cars, in countries that care about air quality, it is inevitable that our cars will become curtailed in the areas they can be used. But that’s just the way of the future for all ICE cars.1 point- Air / Fuel Meter Recommendations
1 pointNot mine! (Yet!) I know people who replaced their o2 sensors with cheap ones on their Audis and then came to Uncle Ali to get me to run diagnostics for them a few months later. (I have full VCDS for those who know what it is). But once replaced with the Bosch ones that cost 3 times as much, they never needed to come back. Incidentally, the Bosch one is what came with my Innovate! I’ve also seen YouTube videos of people reviving old ones by using a blow torch to heat them to glowing hot temps. Can’t be sure how long that would last but apparently it makes the carbon build up on the heating element let go. As for your eBay seller, I’ve had a few bad experiences on eBay but most of the time they have been very good at stepping in and resolving!1 point- "The Orange"

This last post sounds like the "far left Progressive" view that you were deriding in your first post. But that's okay, that's what discussions are for. This year's election isn't even really about left or right. It's about fatalism versus hope. Climate can be controlled. If you ever spent time in the LA basin in the 80's you know what happens if you just let people run riot. Tried to find a picture and instead I found that it's been a problem for far longer and they've been working on it for way before my time on the planet started. California is a good model for what could be. But it's full of those "far left Progressives". https://www.aqmd.gov/home/research/publications/50-years-of-progress https://www.insider.com/vintage-photos-los-angeles-smog-pollution-epa-2020-11 point- Paint code error on all original barn find 280Z?
Thanks everyone for your responses. That definitely answers my question... the paint code for my daughter's car is #305 as I originally thought. Siteunseen - No, the paint code decal is missing from her car. Brunodoggy - Thanks for confirming that the paint code decal on your car is in error. I guess maybe the factory worker in charge of the paint decals was hung over from too much Sake the day it went on your car 🤣 And BTW, that is an amazing car you acquired. It should be worth a small fortune to the right collector.1 point- Restoration of HLS30-12070
1 pointAfter a thorough cleaning and some fresh paint, the assembly was built back up with new seals, bearings, and contact pattern verified. At this point the remaining hardware not installed on the diff was sent off to be zinc plated. Once that returns it will get the final button up and torqued to spec. We are working with the goal of a 100% original appearing restoration (as possible). I know Nissan most likely built these assemblies up and painted the entire unit black, but I couldn't get myself to do that. A little raw aluminum and zinc hardware will look nicely when it's all back together.1 point- "The Orange"
1 pointI will try to get back to you on this later today. I typically use a small Kenwood speaker. They come 2 in a pack. The important item is that it is a 4 ohm speaker, similar to the original. I made some new battery cables with the right angle connectors. Also added the voltage regulator and fusible link. Put some gas in the tank and once the fuel got to the engine, she started right up, although very rough. Did a little trouble shooting and found that the rear carb float bowl was dry as a bone, so it was pretty much just running on 3 cylinders. Turns out the float bowl valve was stuck closed, so I just disassembled and cleaned it and put it all back together. Car is now running much smoother. So I know you're all asking yourselves, "Where did Rich get the new rubber for that front bumper. It is simply not available for the 1973 model bumpers". Since you were all wondering about that, what I did was order the rear 1973 rear bumper rubber since it is fairly long. I drilled 3 new holes in the front bumper for the rubber attachment studs and it installed pretty cleanly. The original hole nearest the bumperette actually lined up which saved me one hole. Anyway, pretty happy with how that turned out. Now if I can just get some of the final vinyl pieces. I need the rear diamond vinyl behind the seats and the floor vinyl/rubber that goes over the drivers and passenger threshold. 20201106_205548.mp41 point- Restoration Unveiled Today 08.17.2019
It was fun to talk about right after it happened. We were going around a sharp curve when the turbo spun up, the rear tires got off to the side in the grass then slid onto a cement driveway. Instant roll over. Busted some glass, beer cooler water and ice everywhere and we were laying on the roof (no seat belts back then, not cool). When the driver turned the ignition switch off fearing a possible fire Betty reminded us the lights were still on. I ran off and left my buddy with the ZX full of beer. We were in high school.1 point- Air / Fuel Meter Recommendations

The planet is burning, respiratory diseases such as asthma have been rising over the decades and known to be linked to city / car pollution and yet, THIS is our concern!? https://www.aaaai.org/conditions-and-treatments/library/asthma-library/air-pollution-asthma There is nothing European about it, frankly it’s a world concern that simply some nations have been quicker at responding to. If lockdown showed us anything, it was just how polluted our air has been that we’ve gradually gotten accustomed to living with. Much like the leaded fuel case mentioned above. I heard these sorts of arguments from smokers in the 90’s when the ban came in on smoking in enclosed spaces such as restaurants etc. “How dare the government tell me what to do and take away my freedom to pollute the air around me? It’s my democratic right to damage my own health and those of others nearby”. While I’m a total piston head and bemoan losing the joy of a growling ICE, I think in 20-30 years we will look back on this era of our existence and laugh at how dumb we were to drive highly polluting cars near our schools, leisure areas and in cities; walking about next to them breathing all those dangerous gasses as if it were perfectly OK. Not that electric cars are any greener from cradle to grave of course. But for inner cities and areas with dense populations / poor air quality, they are a step in the right direction. So now we have to change the song to: Get your motor hummin’, Sneak out on the highway! Looking for a charge point, And supercharge on our way. Just after WW II, the world population was a mere 2bn. We are currently over 7 and rising. The trouble with existing on such a scale is that whatever we do will have an impact on our surroundings and society at large. So we have to move forward intelligently. I don’t like being forced to go electric soon, but in some ways the electric car will save the ICE car / classic cars - much like horses and steam engined vehicles were saved by the car and are now a thing of leisure and nostalgia. Simply put, we have to adapt. Oh and to make you laugh: my Q5 2.0TDi and A4 3.2 v6 petrol are way way cleaner and more fuel efficient than my Z - but the Z being a “Historic class vehicle” is low emissions zone exempt in the UK! Go figure ;) I guess we still like classic cars here.1 point- Future of driving a "classic" car
"Will I be able to drive my car" seems kind of like a small concern, considering all. Read around the internet about tetraethyl lead. There are still people out there that think that lead poisoning is not a big deal and "big government " is ruining the joy of 12:1 compression and big cams. https://www.aoghs.org/products/tetraethyl-lead-gasoline/1 point- saturday night music thread

1 pointI started looking into this because I'm also a data junky. I was looking into a "no-weld" bung to fit the O2 sensor to. I figured on using the O2 sensor's voltage output monitored and logged by a Raspberry Pi. Not sure what I'd do with all the data.1 point- diy porting a 240z?

1 pointBigger hammer. Actually hammer and punch, from the front to rear, to dislodge the end straight backwards back through the hole it is sitting in. They are just rusted together. I’m working on this very task, except the “put it together with fresh parts” instead of the opposite that you’re doing. If you want a picture I can show you details.1 point- Restoration Unveiled Today 08.17.2019
Bitching Betty is what I've always heard. We flipped a ZX turbo and when we realized we weren't dead we started laughing, "ding, your lights are on. ding, your lights are on". Alcohol was a major factor that night.1 point- Finally Got My Garage Mahal!!!
