  1. Here is today’s contribution to your well being. A little bit of Zen tranquility to relax a troubled mind. Assume the lotus position, turn up the volume and put it on infinite loop. OHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM ...... A5E5380B-4934-47F0-BFD5-927A0FEC5910.MOV

No question there is a critical tension between disease control and the economic impact of keeping businesses closed. The questions are how to open the doors, and when. From what I have read, I have more comfort with a carefully staged and tiered opening than other approaches, but there needs to be evidence that the approach has a basis in science and practice. I am interested in hearing what the east coast and west coast governors' groups have to say after they've tapped the expertise in their regions. The Reuters article above that describes the process that Cuomo leads sounds especially promising! (Especially the effort to "Trump-proof" it.) But I think the economic squeeze is sufficient that a change could happen some time in May...could be early or late. I would place a substantial bet that it will be later than Trump wants. I frankly don't trust the Trump admin to listen to experts or use good judgment in their recommendation. My assumption is that Trump will ignore anyone who knows more than he does, make a "hunch" decision influenced by information from one of his toadies with a profit-making motive, and the outcome wouldn't be good. It's sad that I have to write that last sentence...but we're in a position where our governors need to help us guard against half-baked actions of the president.
  3. Wiper motor cleaned and installed. Factory wiper boots should seal up the wiper stalks from corroding again. Added some anti seize to the stalks for longevity. Gratuitous beauty shot... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Here's some philosophy from Australia. It's about lifeboats. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/apr/16/those-talking-about-a-fast-end-to-social-distancing-should-consider-the-cost-paid-in-human-lives#maincontent
  5. I've used a pointed implement of destruction such as an ice pick and pushed, probed and stabbed frame rails. You'll find any thin spots and the inspection tool will leave little to no damage if the rail is sound. I'm betting you'll find more soft spots.

I'm sure that there are economists somewhere who have calculated the "human" cost of shutting down various economies against the human cost of infecting more people. One thing that might come out of this pandemic is the realization that much of what humans do is actually just "busy" work. Essentially useless things that we do just to avoid being bored or to seem to be "working". It's one of the weird things about society that everybody has to "earn" their money through some sort of effort even if the effort produces nothing of value. Way back when i was in high school economists were predicting that society would go to a four day work week because technology was making things more efficient. Instead we're all working more hours and days to produce more crap.

Back in 1918, all they had was a bandana or piece of cloth. Plenty of people are using the same now. I think we get on our high horse and want "special" equipment for everything. Heck, when I was in high school if you were training, running, lifting, playing basketball, your choice of shoes was: Converse Chuck Taylor high tops or low tops? Black or white? That was it. The only sports with special shoes were baseball, football and wrestling - and half the guys in wrestling wore Chuck Taylors as well. Now we have different shoes for everything...and I'm not convinced most amateurs are good enough to need them. We could be doing better and more people would wear some kind of mouth and nose covering if the health gurus had been willing to say "hey, a bandana over your nose and mouth is better than nothing." But no, everybody wants an M95 mask - and I probably won't even see one in my lifetime.

As I see the photos, the A pillar coverage would compliment extending the landau material to the hood. Naturally, the engine heat may effect adhesive, so my rivet solution can be extended to the hood area. There are way too many stock 240Z's around. I want my car to really stand out at a car show! And for blue cars...
  15. Yup, I certainly did goof up but I have a sort of plausible excuse! I installed the clutch disc backward but on one side of the disc only there is a large embossed F so I assumed that's the front, nope, that is the company logo of the manufacturer. I should have checked my pictures. But now that's it is all torn apart again I think I am going to replace the dual mass flywheel with a single mass unit, and eliminate another 15lbs. Thanks for all the help guys.
  16. So I am pretty disappointed with the US Car Tool design...the rotating head is "inelegant" let's just say, and the mechanical locking mechanism comes with built in finger pincher/skin rippers IMO... So, since I am a DIY kind of guy, I started looking for better alternatives. I saw this one on MZR Motorsports FB page and thought "Hmmm... Yes!" Soo .. off to Princess Auto and the hardware store .... And a few hours later I think I have a working prototype of the rotator head... It based on a 1" drive shaft with a 1/4" key. Very standard stuff, so adding "options' is literally just like building with Lego. The worm gear should hold the car in position, but I have added a simple mechanical lock (basically a pinion gear and bolt) for added security. Also I do prefer that the hubs are welded to the rotator arm and so the driveshaft goes right through the arm (as opposed to being just welded to the arm - again extra safety factor). Unfortunately - no time to weld until Monday so this is just a mock up / teaser for now ....?
  17. A piece of angle iron on the back of the brace has two nuts welded underneath, then two holes drilled through the lip of the cowl, you could also add a small plate on top of the lip to sandwich the cowl lip.

So I had a disastrous day the other day . A spare windshield fell from my attic and hit my car on the way down the ladder . What’s this have to do with Covid19? Hagerty sent someone out to the house to write up an estimate on repairs since my car isn’t drivable right now . We are a bit paranoid about anyone coming to the house , so I had a plan to keep my distance . The guy showed up and had no mask . I asked him how was doing in the “Covid” world - I was making small talk to let him know it was on my mind . I led him behind my house to the detached garage and he coughs a couple of times and doesn’t even cover his mouth. I’m like WTF! So I called him out about it, he could tell I was pissed. He said “ it’s just a smokers hack- I smoke “ . I said it doesn’t matter , you should be covering your mouth at least . It just shows you how ill informed people are and how stupid people can be. In his case , he was just an inconsiderate arse hole . I called Hagerty and went off on the guy. Hope he gets fired .

  20. I am not prepared to accept that conclusion at all without further investigation .... I can offer the following: I have several NOS parts, never installed, and in factory primer, that I will measure this weekend. (Fenders, rear quarter, inner rocker, inner wheelhouse that I will re-measure and post here. I also still have a door skin that I just removed from a 72 as well. I can't do it until the weekend though so please be patient ....

For prep, it was mostly wire wheel on the end fittings and any overspray that was on the tubes. I used 220 grit sandpaper on the tubes themselves till the tubes were mostly clean. It's best if you can use a 6 foot box so the tubes only have to bend in half. Bending into thirds because you only have a 4 foot box is tricky and not recommended. the bends end up being where the engine to trans area is and there are lots of bends there already , so gets confusing. Also, when you straighten the tubes, the plating will crack in the bend area when you straighten them. You can touch this are up with gold paint. With the bend in the tunnel, it is not super noticeable. These tubes will be 'Rack plated' so don't send your bulk parts (nuts and bolts) with the tubes, send bulk parts separately. There is a Lot charge for the Rack plating, so you can add a few extra tubes and it's essentially free. The tubes in the picture are for two cars. Also, very thrilled with how the plating turned out. Coloring, rainbow and brightness appear to be just perfect.
