See this is the problem our politicians are despicable humans. I don’t care which side is doing it. We can all point fingers and say...”they did this last time” or blah blah. The problem is we “The People” don’t have the courage to remove our blinders and call a spade a spade. To put all this crap in the bill, solar and wind subsidies, college loan forgiveness, airline emissions rules. These may be worthwhile causes but to exploit the opportunity and a “let no crisis go wasted” mentality when we have citizens dying and families scared and hunkered down is totally unacceptable. These people honestly need to be placed in front of a firing squad, after being dragged behind a horse though downtown DC. Guys we cannot accept this!! You may hate the president...I don’t care! Sure the Administration should has have test kits sooner, or been more frank with the public and a host of other things but and it’s not worth bickering over now. That ship has sailed. We need a package approved that is void of BS from either side. I don’t need a bail out or help, but we have fellow citizens that are not so fortunate. Accepting anything less from your Senator and/ Congressmen is hurting people. I don’t want to see needless suffering or hardship. I recommend we the people get off a political sideline and get on bleachers were our citizens are sitting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My biggest beef is that a lot of the pain we are feeling right now is self inflicted. We missed the opportunity to take action when we had the warning signs. Pennsylvania just instituted a state-wide "shelter in place" order last night. So I couldn't drive my Z right now even if I wanted to. So while that ship has sailed, the captain of that ship ignored the signs of the storm because he thought he could navigate around it somehow. He was wrong. It shows really poor judgment. Bad decisions. NIMBY. Poor judgment. I just can't ignore this one. It's too late to change the vertical rise in the curve, but we had our chance. Not only did we not take it seriously from the top, but we were mislead. They downplayed the whole thing. I was watching a clip on youtube where my news anchors on "F" were side by side with themselves from a couple weeks ago. A couple weeks ago they were downplaying the whole thing and making fun of the hair-on-fire broadcasters on the the other stations because they thought the other news agencies were over-blowing the whole thing. It was funny at the time because it seemed like the other stations were over-reacting. Well guess what... They were not over-reacting and we lost valuable time. So clearly I've lost a lot of faith in my news station as well. Ten weeks after we SHOULD have been taking it seriously - “It’s very mild. I’m not concerned at all. It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away." Not concerned until the stock market tanked. Pulse of wealth instead of pulse of health. Like I said before, I've been red since day one but I've lost a lot of faith. Head in the sand poor decisions leading up to this point, they lied to us, and I've about had it. So when you say "it’s not worth bickering over now. That ship has sailed." You're right. But I don't think the captain deserves a reward for the job he's done. I think we need a change there. We seem to be taking it serious now, but we missed the opportunity to take it seriously then. The people who ignored and downplayed this whole thing are why we are in the position we are in right now.
  4. Sorry for the rant, but as an auto engineer who sees the inner workings of what it takes to bring a car to production, the chances of this happening are zero. The cost to develop a mostly new car are astonomical and Nissan simply doesn't have the sales volumes to justify it. We will be lucky to get a mildly reworked Z34 with a refreshed skin and a modified powertrain from an Infiniti product. Nissan sells less than 10,000 Z cars per year when the product is fresh and is selling around 3,000 per year near the end of the product cycle. There simply aren't enough sales to ever repay the R&D and the tooling. An all-new Z35 would cost upwards of a billion dollars. Even if they could sell 100,000 cars over the life of the product, that's $10,000 per car just to pay for the development costs. That doesn't include the manufacturing costs, raw materials, supplier parts, marketing, or profit. Even at $50,000 MSRP, they wouldn't be able to justify it. Now, reuse the chassis, most of the body, and rework an Infiniti engine and that figure might drop to 200 million dollars. Now, only $2,000 per car goes to pay for the R&D and they have a much better shot at success. There is a very good reason that even Toyota, the leader in cash on hand, didn't develop their own Supra or FRS. It simply doesn't pay off. Even when the Supra is 90% BMW, it will still go down as a poor financial decision for them and the next time around, they might shy away. The C8 Corvette is interesting because the R&D costs were huge, yet GM spent the cash to do it. Volume is their friend and they will sell 50,000+ C8's per year. GM is also likely to axe the Camaro again which freed up money to do the C8. There will always be old guys with cash that just have to have a Corvette as a 3rd car. There simply aren't enough young people with money to justify an all-new Z. I just hope Nissan does enough with the Z34 refresh that sales will be in the 10,000/year range again.

Forgive me if this is in some way chilly powder added to the current discourse - can we truly blame China for this? With all the best will in the world and all the containment, it would have gotten out one way or another. Infected people had no symptoms for 14 days. At the beginning of it all it would probably have been self diagnosed as a bad flu - “take some meds and carry on” would have been my mentality. Sure they tried to conceal it at first but even before that, flights would have carried the virus around the world well before any formal recognition of it. Unless it can be proven that China “manufactured” this virus (which of course is one theory) how can we blame China? The 2008 financial crisis was started by greedy American bankers but it became a world issue. Can we really blame America? Everyone got the greedy bug all over the world. Did the US ever formally apologise for starting it all off? Would it have been fair to ask for that, given it would have gotten off around the world by itself anyway? Patient zero for HIV is considered to have been in Africa. But can we blame Africa for it’s origin or spread? It’s just not that simple - unless of course it was biological weapons gone wrong and it can be proven. What I find most surprising is that beyond blame, beyond partisan politics, beyond opportunities for profiteering, beyond borders - governments / big pharma haven’t been able to come together and pool resources for the greater good of humanity. How easy has it been to have strong coalitions for wars or find funding for them at the drop of a hat? Why is it so hard for governments to come together and jointly fund the research, offer up their greatest minds, encourage big pharma to work together for the benefit of humanity? If someone finds a vaccine, can we see them offering it up to all for free (or a nominal price) for the good of mankind or would they patent it, sit in a Dr Evil style lair and hold a gun the world’s head for one Billion, Gazillion dollars? As harsh as this is, it’s a wake up call for humanity and our way of life that needs serious naval gazing. Wealth before health, profits before environment, accelerating extremes of wealth and poverty. How nice has the air been of late? Do we really need this ever advancing level of consumption? Is the current system so perfect that it must be saved, or does it need to evolve? Sorry for the rant. Feeling a little philosophical this evening after day two of home schooling. Sitting here wondering about their future and the world they are growing up in. Thankfully both students are still breathing, although “Mr AK” the teacher did a lot of deep breathing all day!! ;)

I just realized that you were kind of throwing my own words back at me. Like Trump does. If you listen to the scientists and doctors, this virus will be around for a few years. So, for me, now is the next election. But, even on a very short time frame, Trump is not doing much but talking. So, there really is no "now". We need to remember what's not happening in the very short term, "now", so that in just a few short months we can make a change. There is nothing really that anyone can do "now". The die has been cast and we're stuck with it. Let's burn this inaction and incompetence in to our psyches so that when the red hats come out and the mindless chanting start again, we'll remember what it leads to.

The Service center where Kathy and I volunteer has done that. All the elderly (God, how I hate that word) volunteers are to stay home until further notice. The Center is now temporarily staffed by younger folks who are out of work. I'd like to thank all those younger volunteers out there who are taking a bullet for us.

  12. I would like to offer my experience to help others if they decide to go with these. I am restoring an early car and wanted the tail lights to look new. I bought a large batch of parts about 3 years ago so I had several pairs of tail lights to chose from but they all looked 50 years old. I decided to buy aftermarket (jdm-car-parts.com). When I received them, they looked like new tail lights. When I installed them, the backing was not as strong as factory lights. The nuts broke loose in several spots and the entire back split and separated. I contacted the vendor and their response was it didn't impact the light and since I contacted them in 28 days rather than 14 required for electrical, they would not exchange. But keep in mind there is a gasket back there and fumes can enter the car. So installing them correctly is critical. The bottom line is I should have restored factory lights and bought these chrome strips rather than going after cheap aftermarket parts. It would have been less expensive and the end product would have been better.

In the 2008 bailout we, at least, got to know where the money went. The GOP wants a blank check, to be kept secret for six months. What the hell is that all about, as if I can't imagine. If companies on public support go bust, we eat the losses. If they prosper we don't even get an interest payment. What the Dems fear is most of the money going to the huge corporations and ultra wealthy that don't need it. The best way to rebuild an economy is from the bottom up. Trickle down economics didn't work centuries ago and it still doesn't.

They were telling the WHO there was no person-to-person transmission into mid Jan but they were tracking this since early Dec.... The Govt in China are evil ****ers!!!!! OPEN YOUR EYES!!! THEIR ECONOMY IS BASED ON SLAVERY AND GANGSTERS. THIS $^!# PROBABLY CAME FROM EXPERIMENTS IN A WUHAN LAB.... THEY WILL NEVER ADMIT NOR ALLOW INVESTIGATION SO IT CAN NOT BE PROVED OR DISPROVED DUE TO THEIR SECRECY AND PRACTICE OF LYING. WE WILL FIND OUT SOONER OR LATER IF THAT IS THE SOURCE. FACT: THEY DID STEAL VIRUS FROM A P4 LAB IN CANADA AND SENT TO THE WUHAN P4 LAB A YEAR AGO. THIS CLEARLY SHOWS THEY ARE DOING THINGS BELOW BOARD!!! THEY ARE NOT INNOCENT AND SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED. THEY ARE EVIL!!!!

Clearly its time for the old folks to begin heading to the lime pits. This will greatly assist the current administration's goals of eliminating Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security so that the money can be redirected to corporate and financial bailouts..

It's hard to blame the guy who didn't drain the swamp when you're up to your arse in alligators. But, if you're about to get eaten, warning others of the swamp drainer's ineptness is excellent information for those who haven't entered the swamp yet. It gives the torch wielding villagers time to force those in charge to drain the swamp.
  27. A while a go a i scored an (incomplete) set of old Nissan / Datsun Microfiches of the 240Z / S30 chassis in germany for almost nothing. I tried to scan it using a flatbet scanner is some suggested but the results were terrible. When i found out that my company (beeing a several hundred years old machinery company) has several of those in the mechanical department, i asked if i could borrow one to check my microfiches. and today i brought one home: Microfiches are like Dia's, a kind of minimized drawings or part lists on a film type piece of plastic. The microfiche reader is more or less a projector. You insert one of the film cards, which is labelled for example with "S30 Chassis": And then you can zoom in. By moving around the card you can check the different sections. and then zoom in more and more until you get the page you want: Like for example the steering section: The data in the microfiche is nothing special. it's available in digital form (Nissan FAST or E-Fast software), printed form (Parts manual / R-Drive parts lists) or even as scanned versions of the Microfiches. However it's fun to tinker around like they did back in the day and i will sure have my fun during the COVID-19 Lockdown time to go through the microfiches and check for some data i didn't know yet. Since those Microfiche readers are for sale cheap, im thinking of buying a second-hand unit just for fun and for having the parts fiches accessable directly in the workshop.

we used to have chicken pox parties back in the 50's and 60's when I was a kid. the idea was every kid around would get sick all at once so as not to have a constant stream of sickness. I am not clear on how deadly the cov-19 is, but if it truly is only a real danger to a well defined group (old/sick) then perhaps an argument could be made to hole up all of them for a month, if not working all the better, let the rest of the population go about its life since it seems this virus is bound to infect the world soon enough, everyone get it, gets over it, then release the defined group back. Just a thought, no science no politics, just wondering out loud if this has been discussed by the ones that know the details.

Well said. They're still down playing it and will continue down playing it because in this struggle of health vs wealth , the wealthy are in charge. The 2-3 month delay is the same thing that occured in the 1918 pandemic. "Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it". Evidently "HE" doesn't know history, substantiated by his statement that "nothing like this has happened to us before".
  36. ok so i replaced the cam(lunati barebones cam, (.480/.488 and 224/234@.050” 110lsa), ported the heads and did some minor other work and tuned the carb and such, added an o2gauge got new pushrods and did a bunch of work and now it runs great and drives well, has in the ball park of about 300-350 hp at the wheels, and it’s a blast to drive, spins the tires from a dead stop all the way to 60 if you’re not careful. next up is to replace all of the suspension bushings and tie rods and stuff to make the handling much tighter, really just waiting on the time to do it cause i enjoy driving it too much now to have the desire to make it better just yet... once i settle into online classes i’ll have time and i’ll get it done, and i’ll take pictures along the way. cam is still fresh so i haven’t gotten her up past about 110mph @ 5500rpm but with the setup i have it should carry all the way to about 7000rpm and 130mph without too much trouble once i get the cam really settled in. i also deleted the power steering as it would just leak constantly and would stop working anyways when it was warm, so it’s just manual steering, and having not driven a car like that before it’s an interesting experience, it’s a different connection to the road that i haven’t felt before. overall really excited for this car and i can’t wait to update y’all more! 37. here is the plan. Put it all back together, double check the lash on all valves, bore scope the cylinders, If it still making the noise (will get a video of it with sound) I am just going to pull then engine and put in my spare. The spare runs great, has the MN47 head (higher compression). I don't really want to get into pulling the head with the engine in the car.
  38. I actually wrote a letter to Nissan about that horrid concept. Although, I never got a response, I feel that in some small way, I helped keep that POS off the roads.
  39. Actually it was 1999. That was the 4 cylinder Z concept. Nissan actually conducted a survey of Z club members back then. I did not give it a rave review. While I could tolerate the front (barely), the rear styling is horrid to me.
  40. Some good news in these dire times. We can now supply brackets(nuts and bolts) to fit 240Z to your 280. The bracket set is £59. Harrington remains open and fully operational. We wish everyone a safe passage back to normality asap. Best wishes James

  46. Well, the ceiling and insulation are finally done. I have been trying to get that scheduled since September. The guys are a little frustrating, but they do really nice work. Here are a few pictures, so you can be the judge. Over the weekend, I was able to get the rest of the lights installed and working. I have 24 LED lights at 3810 lumens each. The lighting is just about perfect. It is really bright and clear, with no shadows or dark spots anywhere in the shop. I am really happy with the way that turned out. My HVAC guy just had a double hernia operation, so he won't be able to put the heater in for 6-8 weeks. Another delay, but at least I can move forward with getting the place organized now.

  50. Boy, that garage is just absolutely fabulous, very jealous here. Thought I would share a couple pictures of my future garage here. Wife and I bought a place in Boise Idaho and are renting it out until we are ready to retire which is probably about a year and a half from now. Garage has 1500 sq-ft of space and a large RV section. Pretty sure I can fit all of my cars in here. Our Jeep Grand Cherokee looks kind of small in there.
