  1. keep track of how that trip milage reset cable routes. a pic would be best. Seems trivial but can be confusing also note the wire routing around that area, you don't want to have one of the driver side wires (buzzers/door switch) wrapped around something that ends up making them too short to reinstall. Trying to re route AFTER the dash is in in a pita.

  3. A bad or disconnected vacuum modulator will disrupt proper shifting. Remember a vacuum line has two ends as well as the hollow tube. I would first verify the vacuum hose, then replace the modulator before tearing into the AT again. There is no internal electronics in the AT. The only wiring is a switch for the starter enable and for the backup lights.

Well spring will be soon so lots of leaves too.
  5. I presume the electric assist that fits under the dash then? Remember make sure you get that dash push as far back on the frame as you can, you want the side edges to extend enough to fit behind the door molding. The holes for mounting the dash are oversized to give you some wiggle room. Removing the dash turns out to be not that big a deal, the engineers at Nissan that designed this car really did us all a favor.
  6. Latest exhaust batch - Spring 2020 My latest batch has arrived and shipping has begun for paid-up orders. If you have reserved parts with a deposit, I invite you to complete your payment so I may also ship yours. I'm very satisfied with my new header flange allowing easier fitting and tightening against the engine head plus larger porting for better performance. Lastly, it's lighter - saving nearly 1/2 kilo (1.1lbs) ! Don't forget when ordering that now I stock new valve-cover bolts and inlet/outlet stud kits - both in stainless steel, reasonably priced. I also offer a choice between two gasket versions : Stock ‘A’ for carbs and Efi ‘B’ with injection cut-outs – please specify which when ordering
  7. I did the same thing a few months ago. I had an older unit that had a USB in but no bluetooth. Recently installed one with bluetooth and cell phone link in my 1983 ZXT. I ran the mic lead up the driver's side A-pillar under the molding, and clipped the mic onto the trim for the T-top . The phone works OK up to about 50 MPH, but above that there's enough noise from wind, tires and the car in general that there's no point in answering a phone call - can't hear it well enough to chat. The other thing is that it's hard to find a 1-DIN radio with a display having big enough characters for my 69-year-old eyes to read it. The way they build those displays, they must think everyone wanting those radios has 16-year-old eyes.
  8. Hey guys, It has been my dream for many years to move to a spot where I could build my dream garage. Well, this year my dream was realized. We moved to a new house and I did not even need to build the garage. It came with a 36'x64' Pole Barn!! The barn is a great space. It really is a blank canvas at this point though. I have the shell, but I need to finish the interior. The previous owner got a start on the wiring and putting up some insulation and walls. They also left an area at the back in gravel, with the intent of building in 3 horse horse stalls. The first thing I will need to do is to get that filled in with concrete. After that I want to have an asphalt driveway put in. I had a gravel driveway put in this year as a temporary step, so I could get to the barn without having to drive over the lawn. This year I was consumed with working on the house and getting it to a point where the wife is happy with it. Is that even possible, LOL!! She always comes up with more stuff to do, or things she wants to add. So, next year is the year of the barn. I am just getting serious about putting a plan together. This is where you guys come in. I know a few of you have built some pretty nice garages. I would love to hear all of your ideas on what I should build into the garage. I am particularly interested in what I should do now, before the walls and ceiling are installed. All ideas on nice features to add and the timing of the build process are welcome. Thanks, Marty

We've been loading up AV's Hitachi thread. Thought I'd start a new thread on the Corona virus. Here's a good way to watch what's happening. The yellow dots on the lower right are the scary part. They won't just stop climbing. https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

everything in the states is viewed thru a political lens, this included wars/natural disasters/and now medical pandemics. Its is unfortunate since the messages are often distorted by who is reporting and what there political bias maybe. The last time I can recall when this was not the case was when Tim Russert was alive. You really never knew where he came down on an issue. And then there is the 24/7 news cycle that needs to be constantly filled, there is only so much news out there. When you hear the same exact talking points being expressed you have to wonder is anyone doing independent investigating or are we just given a script that is to be repeated endlessly. Education is a BIG problem. History is told by the victors, but even then its often retold to fit what ever your team needs to hear. Back to working on my Z something that I can have an effect on.

I think that the degradation of America's public education system over the years is largely to blame for many of the things that people are doing in response. It's incredible. What could they be thinking? Guns, ammo, and toilet paper? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/16/us-sales-guns-ammunition-soar-amid-coronavirus-panic-buying Edit - somehow this article here seems related... https://komonews.com/news/local/paraglider-falls-100-feet-off-poo-poo-point

  14. Boy, that garage is just absolutely fabulous, very jealous here. Thought I would share a couple pictures of my future garage here. Wife and I bought a place in Boise Idaho and are renting it out until we are ready to retire which is probably about a year and a half from now. Garage has 1500 sq-ft of space and a large RV section. Pretty sure I can fit all of my cars in here. Our Jeep Grand Cherokee looks kind of small in there.

Time to start cutting newspaper pages into strips the width of a toilet paper roll. Sorry, just trying to lighten this discussion up a bit. Dennis
  16. Part two. Use die to drill 21/64 hole Install on custom mandrel on the lathe and remove excess. Parted off to right length. Quick sand paper polish while it’s spinning. Flash clean up on the inner edge of the parted cut complete.
  17. Thanks for the information in this thread, and Dave for the videos. Took my dash out over the weekend, took about an hour, and this was taking my time. While I have this out. Will be upgrading the stereo and adding power steering. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

On the other hand, I just came across this article: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/14/anti-inflammatory-drugs-may-aggravate-coronavirus-infection It specifically says that acetaminophen is okay. Accurate information is difficult to come by in the fog of war.

One must look at the details. Analysis is showing that using steroids, acetaminophen, acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) acid and ibuprofen during the fever stage have detrimental effect on recovery. It is better to let your body fight the infection naturally. Some also recommend not taking acetaminophen,(Tylenol, paracetamol). This illness has an incredible infection rate that occurs in the early stages of the disease. This makes it differ from MERS, SARS, Ebola, Flu, etc. Usually with these, the carrier has symptoms so you know to stay away. This virus is not like that. It goes though the population like wild fire as spreaders show no symptoms. It also does not kill like MERS or EBOLA so more spreaders are alive longer to continue spreading. This disease has only been with us for ~ 2 months (neglecting the hiding and lies 2 month period from mainland China that gave us this plague) so we still know very little about it. Recent evidence from Japan shows you can be cured then get reinfected. From leaked data, it seems like China has given up fighting the disease and has closed many hospitals.... I wonder if they now realize fighting it is impossible so everyone must face it individually and head on.... people are still welded in their apartments in Wuhan and factories have not ramped up.
  20. Cool. Just make sure you're careful if there's any fluorocarbon (for example... Viton) in there. Don't get it too hot.

Let me see what I have here first before you send parts. I know I have a complete working unit on my car, so I can take handle measurements off that (assuming they didn't change any over the years). What I'm not sure about is if I have a broken one laying around. I'll take a look when I get a chance. I did have one more thought on a repro technique... Make the whole thing out of metal, but make the handle section narrower than stock (and not tapered). Then glue on a hollow white plastic handle. Or a black one. Or a teak one. Or mother of pearl...

California just ordered all bars and winery operations to close. Locally, there are 14 identified cases in the county with 12 of them in my community. Four of the local 12 are in the hospital and the other eight are quarantined at home. The recommendation is for everyone over 65 to shelter in place. My son was to start his new job with Google tomorrow. Last week he was told to come in tomorrow (Monday), sign in, pick up a company computer, and go home for two weeks prepared to work remotely. This morning, he got an email telling him to phone in tomorrow and they would get him signed in and on the payroll - no need to come in for a computer. He will basically be on paid vacation for at least two weeks, maybe more, until they decide to return employees to the office. Dennis

The more tests that you do, the more people you catch that aren't showing symptoms. In America and other countries the lack of testing makes the death rate look higher, because only people closer to dying are tested when they show up at the hospital. Because they're not catching as many people with the virus. The irony of trying to make the numbers loo good by testing as few people as possible is that it makes the death rate look higher. I got a 2% death rate using this data. https://www.covidus.com/coronavirus-usa/

  26. SUs will work nicely, and if you decide you really want EFI instead, you can convert the SUs into throttle bodies with a kit from Patton Machine. http://www.pattonmachine.com
  27. I have a very similar engine to yours but with shaved E88 head. SUs are producing a measured 232bhp at 6200 rpm and the tuner said he thinks it would be over 240 if he had taken it to 6800 but backed off as he is used to dealing with British Layland cars ;) also it was going a little lean. While getting lean at the top, it had no trouble breathing. The right needles will sort that out. I’m still in the process of finding the ideal needles as the tuner was modifying my SM needles while we were unaware of several air leaks behind the carbs. ZTherapy thought that my engine should be fine on SM, so that tells you something also about SU carbs. I think either lightly modified SM or unmodified MC would be correct for my car but I have yet to find the time to fine tune. ZTherapy run their SCCA car revving to 8K rpm on stock sized SUs with modified needles and producing big numbers. The beauty of SU carbs is low and mid range throttle response and power for the 70% rest of the time you’re not WOT. Also a piece of cake to set up. So my advice is get your carbs properly tuned but EFi is of course king when it comes to perfect fulling maps. If you go efi and cost isn’t a big factor, consider the Jenvy Throttle Bodies ... https://store.jenvey.co.uk/nissan-datsun-cknn03-1 And of course if you want the triple look / sound with EFi, then there is this ... https://store.jenvey.co.uk/throttle-bodies-and-components/throttle-bodies/heritage-dcoe
  28. I would definitely go with the SU’s. They are so simple and absolutely no problem feeding your set up. Get Ztherapy to build a set for you. They do a great job on my 3.1 Stroker Motors.
  29. On a higher note... The Nfl players can smoke weed NOW.
  30. Assuming it’s not the wing / fender, then I believe you need: shims, an entire weekend, the patience of a saint, the blood of a virgin and an exorcist. Oh and a friend with a lot of time on their hands to hold things too.
  31. The cars came from the factory with shady wire splices. Rewiring probably won't fix your problems. The turn signals are the switch, the gauges are probably the bulbs. You need a Z shop, not a god shop. (Edit - no offense intended to god shops...)
