  1. I'm home safe. Not caught up yet, but I'm home safe! Special thanks to @GGRIII my traveling partner, and @wal280z my roomie and comic relief while I was there. Thanks guys for having me covered! So the trip down, we had a couple noteworthy events. First, we learned that there is an intermittent connection somewhere in the oil pressure gauge circuit that makes the gauge drop off to zero randomly. Probably the sender unit itself is going bad. Then there was the rain in Asheville where we had to use the wipers that we really didn't want to use. But the most significant event on the way down was the chunk of metal in the tire resulting in a mandatory stop to have a tire patched. We were about twenty miles out from the show and were making our last gas stop when we saw that one of the rear tires was going down. After a couple frantic phone calls and several failed attempts to get input from locals, we found a tire place that pulled the tire and patched us up. The guys at the tire shop were enamored the car, and as it turns out one of the guys working there has a relative (nephew I think?) that is really into Datsun Z's. How much? Well... Picture of a picture, but this much: And for future reference, this is what we pulled out of the tire: The return trip home was more uneventful than the trip down. Other than having no heat (because having a connected heater core is low priority when going to Atlanta, right?), there were really no significant noteworthy events. We stayed in Harrisonburg, VA near JMU and hit a couple local brewpubs in town. But we're back, and I've got a couple more interesting pics that I'll post when I get the chance. It was great seeing old friends, even if they couldn't stay the duration, and meeting new friends! Great to put faces with names! Power to the flat tops!
  2. Congratulations Zup !! Mr.Matsuo was amazed at your car ! Kats
  3. It was nice meeting you and Cody too Mr Patcon. I'm glad everyone had fun and safe travel here and back. Atlanta's Hartsfield is mine now. Thanks Maras, I needed that.
  4. Jim2, a few photos of your cars (and of yourselves) ended up in this article on ZCON! http://www.speedhunters.com/2018/10/welcome-atlanta-zcon-style/ @Zup @S30Driver
  5. The ZCON 2018 photo with the ZCON 1995 photo that inspired it. Both were taken at Road Atlanta.
  6. I hope everyone got home safe. Had a great week!! Enjoyed meeting more members in person. @gnosez @wal280z @Obie 280Z @gwri8 @Zup & Jim2 @Captain Obvious @Pat Carr @SteveJ @Redwing @Diseazd @motorman7
  7. I am selling a set of bumperrettes with the front over-rider for a 1973 240z. They are pretty good shape. Chrome shows some minimal signs of ware on the bumperrettes. The over-rider has some dullish chrome but is very presentable. One rear bumperrette has a shorted bolt (see the pic with green tape on it). This will have to be replaced so its long enough for attaching to the rear bumper. Asking : $155 for the entire set. I had them installed on my Green 240z... these are extra parts as I had my bumpers re-chromed and newer bumperrettes and over-riders available. If interested .. PM me. Many thanks, Mark.
  8. Yeah Site......Nice to finally meet you in person. Sorry you couldn’t have made it to the Sonesta bar.....or maybe that’s a good thing. The Rusty Nail would have been fun too! Guy
  9. I can't even get mine to come on! It's the sticky door jamb button I think. I'll get a pic soon. Meantime mine looks more like Mr Wilkes than 7tooZ's. What bulb did you use @7tooZ? I have the 4 small panels on mine. The light fixture lens is so frosted I can hardly see without my map light on. That's the one I use mostly. Edit: duh! I use the map light 'cause the dome won't come on. Like my dome.
  10. Resurrecting this thread. The blue wire that is cut actually should go to the 3 pin connector blue wire with the fuse holder in between. Does anybody know where the red wire with dark blue stripe (dial illumination wire) gets plugged into on the dash wiring harness? I assume I need to look for the matching red wire with a dark blue stripe, but I don't see one. The PO put in an aftermarket radio and wires are cut and spliced all over the place.
  11. Thanks for posting pics guys. Sure wish I could have made it. I've spent the last three weeks in Vancouver BC for a big work project. https://www.classiczcars.com/gallery/category/2270-2018-zcon-atlanta/

  13. thanks, this is helping According to the '73 supplement from above (thanks for that BTW!), page 6 "Mode Door" section. This is the one that sends air either to "center vent/outboard vents" or "floor/defrost". This is the one that is probably inoperative, I'll crawl up there and manually move it over and see what happens. A full R&R of the system is looming, possibly including resurrecting the A/C. I made this to help my little brain. 240zheatercontrols.pdf
  14. Jim 2 is @S30Driver
  15. I got the poster series framed as well as the signed event post.
  16. Let's presume your dash controls look like this. The top lever is for (1) a flap to open or close an opening from the cowl, and (2) another flap that manages the direction of the fresh air inside the heater box. When in the off position, no outside air comes in and the flap to admit cabin air in to the heater box is open. This is where your A/C system would be routing air. Air flow comes out thru the center and outboard vents. The center lever is pretty self-explanatory: it manages the water valve to block or admit hot water to the heater core. The bottom lever shifts air between defrost or room. The owners manual says this lever has "no relation" when the vent is open. The aftermarket A/C system has to use the above. It is the equivalent of "recirc" in a modern system - no fresh air. If you have the top lever anywhere but OFF, you dumping outside air into heater box and defeating the A/C. Adding to the problem is the blower fan in the heater box is trying to pull air thru the A/C, an inherently poor solution. None of this has anything to do with the V8 conversion UNLESS they also messed with stuff in the cabin. Hope this helps a bit.
  17. And of course you know what today is. Top of the 49th to you Alan!

  19. Dave, I referenced the 1977 wiring diagram in the attached photo. It shows the one with a male connection off of the harness going to negative terminal and the one with the female connection going to the positive. Also the one with the fuse link apprears to be on the positive side. I cannot connect it to the other because it would be male on male.....?
  20. Welcome to the club (first post). If you have a color wiring diagram, here is a link to waynes thread (wal280Z) on the color wiring diagram for the 1977 280Z. It's helped me a lot. Its a bit hard to tell what is going on if you don't have a meter to check voltage. A fully charged battery should have around 13.5 volts. Are you sure you have a fully charged battery? It could be an ignition switch problem? A multi meter would help Can you crank the engine with an extra wire from the battery positive to the spade terminal on the starter? See if it will turn over. I don't think that is your problem because you don't tail lights, turn signals and brake light don't If you look in the middle section of the wiring diagram the C9 conector could be causing your problem. You could check it.
  21. Here's the latest. It's Revision "M". It includes the two changes mentioned above (voltage regulator and illumination light in the Temp/Oil gauge): 1977 Color Wiring Diagram Version M.pdf Wayne had asked for me to take a look at it and upload it if I got the chance. Never tried to attach a pdf before, so let's hope this works right!! Thanks again Wayne!!
  22. I noticed a crossed wire in the Illumination circuit for the Water temperature/Oil pressure gauge a while back. Didnt think it was worth mentioning, but if there is a revision, then it can be added. This colour wiring diagram is truly awsome. Thanks for all the effort Wayne. I printed it on an extended A1 format and it hangs on the wall of my garage. So much better than the FSM. Chas
  23. I just did the internally regulated alternator modification and as a side benefit of doing that work, I now know the charging systems inside and out. Armed with that dubious knowledge, I discovered a mistake on the 77 color wiring diagram. Inside the voltage reglulator, some of the components are misplaced: Not sure it's enough to warrant revision "L" or save it until there's more, but if I didn't write it down, I was going to forget! This wiring diagram is better than sliced bread. Way better!
  24. wal280z (wayne) has done a wondefull job making a coloured wiring diagram of the 77 280Z. See link for the last revision. It will come in handy when looking for places to check the voltage. 25. Wayne, It looks awesome. Thanks again for all the great work you've done on this! It's an amazing piece of work!
  26. 1 point
A few years back, Wal280Z posted this thread. It has a pretty nice copy of the wiring diagram in TIF format. The Green/Yellow is listed as the parking brake switch. One of the black wires may go to the ashtray light, but the source is a Green/White wire. There is a Black/Red bullet connector and Black bullet connector going to the radio. You weren't specific on where the wires were located.
