The steel rivets will pull down to about 1/16" thick on the back side, adequate clearance to not hit the top edge of the door panel. Anything thicker will likely have a problem. A buddy used aluminum rivets that finished out with about a 1/8" shank backside, would not clear to install on the door and had to be trimmed.

I used pop-rivets to install new squeegee strips as well as fuzzy strips to the door panels. They were 1/8" dia. X 1/8" grip depth steel rivets, spaced about 4" apart. Worked perfectly. Aluminum rivets can pop "prematurely" leaving a longer shank on the inside. This will interfere with reinstalling the door moldings.

The paint match was discovered by one of our fellow members. The color coat is Dupli-color BFM0360 Dark Shadow Gray, a Ford color. It is topped by Dupli-color Matte Wheel Clearcoat to eliminate the gloss of the color coat. All are spray cans.

After weeks of rain we are finally getting some somewhat dry days (discounting Florida-quality humidity) and I can get a bit of painting done. Two sets of tail light panels got their first coat of Dark Shadow Gray today. One set is targeted for my ride to swap out the satin black set on it as part of the resto, the other set will hit the classifieds when complete. A grill to swap has been completed for some time.

Been there, done that! Poly bushings gave my car a horribly harsh ride and I swapped them out for OE rubber.

My error. Your pic of the insulator/mount helped refresh me and I was able to locate a pic of my lines straddling the rod. The larger fuel supply line does run under the rod, the other three lines are above it. Sorry for the bad info.

I assume you are talking about the hand brake pivot rod thru the tunnel wall into the cabin. The fuel, vapor, and hydraulic lines will mount below this rod.

Speedometer error kicks in when you change the outer diameter. Aspect ratio was not in play back when our cars were new. For my 240Z the OE 175X14's were generally thought to be about 78-80. @Patcon mentions the benefit of a bigger contact patch but that also can introduce an effect called "tracking" where the tire fights the steering wheel and wants to follow road irregularities, more noticeable with these relatively light cars. I've noticed that effect with the 205's now on my car. If your current tires are rubbing you probably want to consider something a bit more narrow. Unfortunately there are limited options in the 15" range. Good luck with your selection process.

The folks at Nissan sent me a bunch of pics, here are a couple of favs.

The Z Proto wrapped up a three-day visit in Dallas today. I had recently posted on the Nissan USA Facebook page about our 50th anniversary and they reached out to me with an invite to see the Z Proto. What followed was an unexpected photo and interview session where they posed my car next to the new Z. The new Z is a sleek and stylish car with none of the faux vents, overwrought bulges and creases, or chrome embellishments; the interior is exceptionally comfortable and well done. The Nissan team was very welcoming and showed a genuine interest in my car. I expect to get copies of the photos taken by the pros in the coming weeks.
