  1. Thank you all for supporting my sense of humor =P I'll probably make a poster with Bernie and send him out. Latest news: the interior work is finally completed 🙏 I am studying the battery relocation (probably end up with a braille 2015 in the passenger side toolbox) From the exterior, delete of the side marker holes is done, almost deleted the antenna hole as well, but after testing it is still working (going up and down at least) so I decided to keep the vintage style. Inspired again by @grannyknot and @wheee! I added the hood gas strut, so much slicker than the big spring bar crossing and visible behind the front grille. And we are now doing some cleanup in the engine bay, as battery is relocated, and the air intake and manifold are replaced by ITBs, we can get rid of a lot of useless stuff 😅 Next step starting on Saturday is denting and panels adjustment with the new weatherstrip, should take the week or so, before painting prep to start ! My excitement is through the roof ! Open question regarding the front side markers, as I deleted them from the fenders to have smoother body lines, I am thinking about putting them in the wheel wells, see below: No need to extend cables, just some plastic cutting actually... Finally some work started on the dashboard, marking is done and the alcantara is being cut (29 pieces in total):
  2. Well not a Datsun but it made be vomit in 1 sec so I figured we needed an ugly reference:
  3. I think I would go back with a hacksaw and maybe a cheap floor jack. Cranks run $1500 and up these days. If you have to, pay a buddy $50 or a case of beer to help

One commentator made a point with which I agree. The most important aspect of trends is not the number of infections, but the the number of hospitalizations and deaths. Being sick with CO-19 is no picnic, and it may have long term effects, but being dead is worse. If the measures being taken reduce the severity of infections and result in fewer deaths, we are winning.
  5. I’m up the hill toward Tahoe a bit but yes, we had 4 days of snow last week. Part of that ‘atmospheric river’ that went through California. When it’s over, I’ll have this custom inflatable donut for sale in the classifieds.
  6. Just take out the engine ..less work at the end and no heavy lifting under a car.. Did you lift a crank lately? they are heavy! When the engine is out you can give the engineroom a clean and the engine some paint if needed.. and so we have a lot more work hey?
  7. The repairs are coming along quickly, and looking quite good. Poor Bernie can’t get a break after that shot of him with the mittens and that sour look went viral. I see where the woman who made them is getting plenty of offers to buy them, although it is only a hobby for her. She did provide a few pairs for auction to raise money for some cause though, so a good outcome, eh?

pretty wizz poor job on my part from the 1st time I replaced the TC cover (after the tight side chain guide failed. If you look closely you can see the green dye coolant in the weep channel. All done, no seepage so far looking good. videos coming.
  9. @240260280, you've been holding out on us, love the latest batch of Z's Change the hood out and this would be a nice car even with the towel rack.
  10. My first question would be why? The transmission would need to come out so you can remove the flywheel (or flexplate for automatic transmission). Then the motor mounts undone and the engine raised so the forward end of the crank will clear the front cross member. Even then it will be difficult to remove without the help of a friend. And at that point, removing the engine, and placing it on an engine stand will be a lot less work. Going back in will be quite complicated, as the connecting rods will all need to be positioned to line up with the journals on the crank, taking care not to damage the journals with the big end rod bolts (6 pairs of hand to hold each one, can you fit yourself and 5 of your closest friends under the car?).
  11. I used the same set up on my 280 and it works like a champ
  12. Sorry to hear that @conedodger I had a ladder slide out from under me last week. A few new cracks that'll go away. Several weeks off my feet just as I was officially starting the resto of my car. Got the motor apart and to the machine shop, and now the project is stalled again! Speedy recovery for you!
  13. Another 71. Over-riders, shiny mag wheels, and... an L26. Might as well just drive it to the wrecking yard. Ruined! 💀☠️↘️ Chassis: HLS3005807 https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-datsun-240z-167/
  14. That's a good idea. Still on the fence, but need to do something before driving season starts. Too cold and snowy here in the winter.
  15. One of the orange 72's didn't get bid very high. $20,750. Seems like original is the key on the early ones. Keep those old parts.
  16. Jeff, it sounds like you're moving near some proving grounds... 🙂
  17. I thought the towel bar was there to protect the front.
  18. Right, it will look a lot better!
  19. This is where I stopped taking pictures and got to work. Most everything else was just putting all the parts back on. Still more problems to come but mostly just annoying old car stuff.
  20. I was dying to see if the engine I rebuilt would actually run. I followed the instructions but I have never torn into the bottom half of anything before. I was very nervous about the startup.
  21. Great work on the driver side trans hump! That will be so much easier to fit modern seats.
  22. Hi Guys, thinking about renaming the thread to "what's the best welding helmet in the market" 😂 Further development on the floor, both sides were ready for spot welding yesterday afternoon, it does feel closer to the denting and painting.🤩 After seat adjustment on the transmission tunnel the water drain holes and the bend had to be deleted, so 2 new drain will be created. Still need to close the speaker holes cuts into the tool box. I reused the original seat sliders & brackets and adapted them for the Recaro, using the same fixation points on the body. Also, had a guest quite unhappy to remain in the passenger seat 🤣
  23. I love the fact that your restoring your dash on the 60th floor of an office tower, the shell looks to be in great shape. Looking forward to the next set pics. Would you mind posting where you found those LED rings for your gauges? I sold my 77/280z to a dealer in Dubai last year, I think they still have it on the floor, https://www.tominiclassics.com/featcar/datsun-280z/
