New project
3 pointsTrying not to clutter this site with bike stuff, but had to post how the engine parts came back from vapour blasting. Really impressed with the look. @CanTechZ I used VaporBlastCanada which is in Chilliwack if you need anything done.3 points

Z's on BAT and other places collection
So I was poking around with the pics again and I'm starting to think that maybe @Racer X was right when he suggested that "someone has mixed two Z cars, and then rust happened." Looking at the rear strut towers again, the plastic trim is unquestionably 280 style with the high hip cutout. But the METAL part of the rear tower looks like it only comes up to 240 height. That results in a large gap between the top of the metal strut tower and the bottom of the plastic trim: And looking at the drivers door... Notice the weather strip along the top of the window frame. That is without question a 76 feature: Front lower valances where the turn signals aren't is without question a 280 feature. Taillight panels are at least 74. So even though it seems hard to believe, I'm starting to think that someone may have started with a 72 and put on so many parts from a 76 that it actually shows as a 76. If the firewall VIN comes back matching the other numbers, I'll have to assume that's what they did here. Butchering the VIN plate to fit the dash is probably still illegal (considered modification and/or defacing maybe?), but to give the seller the benefit of the doubt, the unibody section may have left the factory in 72. I gotta just stop looking at the pics and let the whole thing RIP.2 points

My two swiss S30Z Fairlady Restoration build thread
I've always wanted to decorate my workshop & Garage with some authentic Vintage datsun signs or so, but they're not exactly easy to come by.. So when this one popped up, i had to get it immediately. Yesterday i undertook a 6 hour drive to the other, french speaking side, of the country, to pick up this vintage dealer sign. Due to the language barrier and short time we had, i wasn't able to figure out the history. But the seller had other, similar signs, so i guess it must have been part of a combination with other signs outside a dealership in the french speaking area of switzerland. Nevertheless. i loaded it into the back of my car and brought it home. It's basically an aluminum frame with a plexiglass front which has the datsun logo printed on it somehow (it doesn't seem to be a vinyl sticker or so) I wasn't really sure if it's working or not, and honestly i was expecting the inverters to explode when i power them up, simply to the fact that it hasn't probably been used in decades. But this beeing an "industrial grade" outdoor sign, made by a well known swiss signmaking company, it just came alife as soon as i installed the cable and plugged it in. great! Now i have to find a nice place for it, it is much bigger then what i expected when i bought it. but i love it 🙂 Probably will convert it to LED lighting before hangig it somewhere on the wall, to avoid a repair after a few working hours. This thing is big and it might e tricky to hang it somewhere, so it better should stay there forever 🙂2 points

Fabricated Sanden compressor bracket for driver's side
My car came to me with one of those huge York compressors and brackets hanging off the passenger side of the engine. It didn't work and I took it off because it was in the way. I would like to have air again, though, but thought it would be nice to use the four threaded holes on the left side of the engine block. I bought the adjuster brackets from Summit for $45, and welded them to a flat plate. Had to make a few trips to the store to find the right belt. It clears everything, and the compressor is easily removed, installed, or adjusted. I think it should work well.1 point

Found 2 240Z's
1 pointI found 2 240z's. They were found by a friend, he took the pictures. I haven't been up to see them, but he checked for rust, and according to him there is some surface rust, nothing that goes through. The owner told him they are both 73's. The picture of the emissions tag has a 1972 date on it, so one or both may be different than 72. The owner said he drove both of them to where they are parked. He had the seat out of the red one, and they caught on fire, so he has an insurance claim. I told him I'd look for a couple seats online so he can complete his claim. I told my friend that I'd offer the guy $6500 for both of them, and I'd check online to see how close I am with my offer. In the next couple of days, he will check the vin/engine numbers to see if they match. I may take a ride myself to go look at them.1 point

Things could be worse. Perspective?
I have done something close to this but it only hurt me, about $2,000 and 12 months without a driver's license. I forgot headlights use a concave reflection mirror for high beam/low beam. Put duct tape on the top of my headlights thinking that would make high beams low beams. WRONG. Spent the night in jail. The cooler of empty beer cans didn't help either.1 point

Tire Recommendations 14 x 6.5 inch wheel
I’ve had good luck with these falken azenis rt615k+. In 195/60-14 size I think. Pretty sticky but not the firmest sidewall, so not a harsh ride.1 point

1 pointTotally agree, but if you google them (those 300zx's) you'll see a lot of them in varius "colors" of .Sapphire Blue Pearl TK3 on the different pictures taken all in different situations. I get a good pallet when you put on google: Nissan 300zx TK3 (go to pictures.) I think this one is a good presentation..1 point

intake manifold vacuum measurement
Vacuum system is now complete and good vacuum is measured. Thanks for all the tips! Really appreciate it! The manifold hose barbs are installed on each insulator, for my TwinMax carb balance/synch tool. https://www.amazon.com/TMX-A005-Twinmax/dp/B004K5MH5M It works great on all my vintage twin motorcycles and works great on my 240. I'd previously tried my mercury column balance/sync tools, but the 240 pulls so much more vacuum that a bike, that they're useless. IMG_7029.m4v1 point

Need help choosing a blue (:
1 pointThe trouble with picking out a colour online is how many variables could potentially misrepresent the colour in real life. The screen you're viewing the pictures on, the lighting when the picture was taken, the camera's settings (particularly the white balance), potential colour correction and picture touch ups all come into account. I think online is a good way to ballpark it (i.e. dark blue vs. light blue), but when you really want to narrow it down (to the point where you're picking precisely which shade of dark blue), I think it's best to see it in real life. Sort of like how you'd want to write with an ink, or test a can of paint before you decided what to go with. Maybe order some paint swatches printed with the exact colour code and specfiications, then envision what it'd look like. Or, go to a car meet (I know there's bound do be some in Germany) in hopes of finding a colour you like. That's just me though.1 point

Aren't the top of the rear strut towers taller and flat on the 280Zs to mount the retractors for the seat belts? The pictures look like they are open. Also, the rear quarter panels have the relief for the 240 bumpers, rather than the smooth quarters of the 280. It certainly is of questionable pedigree.1 point

Z's on BAT and other places collection
Odd that even though it appears to be a 240, bumpers, parking lights, under the hood it looks like a 280, fuel but injection, relays, etc. on the fenderwells, and the taillights are all 280. Someone has mixed two Z cars, and then rust happened. I've been given better condition Z cars than this one. They would have to pay me to haul this one away for them.1 point
