What I did was to build a bench that was about the height of the door sill. I could lie on my back and reach up to get those nuts. It was much more comfortable that way.

I had German language classes in middle and high school and finally got to use what little I learned/remembered 30+ years later on trips to Germany where I attended birthday parties for Ferdinand Porsche. Fortunately, he understood English better than I spoke German. Those were the days, as they say. Invited to the party, stop at the factory to pick up a "loaner" Porsche for a week (one time a 928, next time a 944S, another time a Boxster), and party like it was 1939. Good memories. Dennis

I bought a '72 240 for my son for Christmas. Going to give it to him on Christmas morning.....It's going to be awesome! I want to give him some small things as gifts that he can use to restore/maintain the car. The basics: -- The care is in pretty good shape. Solid daily driver w/ no rust. Mostly original interior and engine. Picking it up from the mechanic tomorrow (went through brakes, carbs, a few hoses, etc to make it ready for daily use). -- Examples of the kinds of things I'm looking to buy: penetrating spray for siezed fasteners, cleaning liquid for interior, fender cover (to drape over fender while working on engine, etc. -- Anything else we might need as brand new owners just getting started with our Z. I have most of the basic hand tools we'll need, but anything that is particularly useful on a Z would be great to know. Thanks, everybody. Looking forward to participating in this forum and getting to know people. Once my son has his car, I'll let him into this login so we can both post.

25 years or so ago, my buddy and I each had Z cars. I had (and still have) a UniSyn and my friend used the one you linked. For whatever reason, I never liked his and have stuck with my trusty UniSyn ever since. At times, it feels like a crappy device, but it has always done the job.

Welcome and congrats on the purchase! What kind of tools do you and your son have? Nissan did a great job keeping the number of fastener head sizes to a minimum, so a good set of 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, and 19mm double box end wrenches and 6 point sockets will be a great start. A good multimeter is another must have. If you already have a good tool set, get a UniSyn carb synchronizer tool. A good floor jack and jack stands are also must haves. Other than tools, you can get him things where the car is weak - carpet, suspension bushings, etc. Most of all, have fun!!!

Last Sunday I officially waived my personal banner of "Mission Accomplished" as I made it out to the final Cars and Coffee of 2017 in the Z. The trip there and back was drama free and the Z got its own fair share of lookers. It was great to hang out with Mike W. and our buddy Kyle McKenzie. The previous owner of the car was there too and was happy to see it out, taking in all the work I had done, and being enjoyed by its new owner. Once the sun came out it got packed fast with lots of foot traffic. My apologies for the poor picture quality as it was nearly impossible to get a picture of our row without people passing by. My goal for 2018 is to start using my DSLR with a glare hood to get better pictures. For now, phase 1 is complete and I am making plans for phase 2.

Actually it sounds like they were a lot of help and you're just looking at it wrong. They told you that you are already (or are about to be) in possession of stolen property, but didn't send the authorities to find you. I think you should be happy with that result. Yes, adhering to the law can be "inconvenient". It usually costs more, and usually takes more time. But it's the right thing to do. And a $500 payoff to a buddy who works at an impound despite the unscrupulous and questionable origin of the car is not the right way to do it. If it was never declared abandon in the first place, then removing it is called theft. There seems to be a trend by tzagi1 here of "attaining" vehicles from people who never had the authority to sell them in the first place. Some people call that fraud. And because you actually know it's wrong, that makes it even worse. Remind me to never buy a car from Nevada. Rust free or not. I'd be worried it was stolen and passed through hands like this. @Mike Tough to do, but I've had enough. Captain Out. Seriously. Someone should call the authorities.

I picked it up at O’Reilly. BrakeBest Brakes Power Brake Booster BHH 53-5104 It was fairly straightforward. I left the master cylinder on and just moved it out of the way. The pillow idea is great. I used my wife’s old yoga mat to pad my spine as I laid in the floor board.

Second that. The top two nuts are hard to get started on their threads when reassembling. Kneel on garage floor, lean in off balance, then then try to make arms reach back to the left so that two or three fingers holding nut can find their way into dark, confined recess. Wins my vote for 'Top 10 Most Difficult Fasteners'. Other nominations?

I don’t notice any difference from my other Z’s in my Stroker with the Maxima diesel crank.

Maybe I'll be able to operate this good enough to get some good aerials before zcon. It's much harder than I thought! Thank goodness for youtube. My dog hates the thing and hides under the bed when flying indoors.

All you need is that bike inner tube, an adjustable hose clamp, a pair of scissors, and you'll have instant tuned auspuff. Be sure to yell scheisse like the camera operator did. Too much fun! Dennis

That Petrolicious article is the one I read. What caught my eye was "the M7 BMW never built" in the title. After reading in just a little I realized you were Guy's son and had to read the whole article. You two could have a television show, "The Complete Opposite Sanford and Son".

Not calling y'all old or anything, but from the perspective of a younger guy, I hate the intrusions of privacy that Facebook is able to implement, facial recognition on the images that you post (from there associations of who you are hanging around with), location data is sent to them, now they know where you hang out and where you go, conversation that you have are data-mined as well for advertising, where the mouse hovers on the screen thats recorded for "user experience". Not something that I want to contribute to. and like everyone here says, the advised that they give on those sites tends to be half-thought/sub-par at best. Personally I'd rather just sick around here.
