280zx 1979 2+2 slick roof restauration
Hey Mart, That ZX is going to be a beauty ! I'm curious after the end result... Nice work from the body shop . About the hinge seal, that's a good one, need to do some information digging on the internet here.., I wouldn't have a clue either. You have alot of books and manuals, doesn't one of them say anything about a seal there ?

L24 Battles Six S20's. Guess who wins?
The S30 432(R) and the S20 Prince engine are surely unique in the sense of historical value and collector items.

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Interesting, this seems to be a complaint with many s30 owners. And the " sticky " throttle. Once I had my rebuild carbs back, the issue was no longer there, so I think alot of problems are in the butterfly shafts, because they actually wear in " oval " , the pedal action is not smooth anymore

Spark plug question
Just use BP6ES, I don't see R plugs necessary it's not a modern car. Heck I even use B6ES ( cheapest ones ) on my 240Z and they do the job just fine. Going hotter is not the solution to existing engine problems.. if the plug is fooling it's either oil, or to much fuel, or in extreme cases the head gasket is leaking and fooling the plug.

#187 on BAT
Good luck on the restoration ! It's amazing these low VIN cars still keep popping up... I noticed the speedo starts @ 20 mph, didn't the early speedo start at 0 ? Or was it the other way around haha.

Wesley's Dream & The Journey of a '72 240Z
Okay. Yes that's a big problem to.. When the engine shop rebuild my lower block there was alot of crap coming out for sure.

Wesley's Dream & The Journey of a '72 240Z
You'd be suprised how much the radiator has lost capacity since it left the factory ! Once mine got a new core, things changed drastically, even on a super hot day, the temperature stays moderate. But a good flush like you said and a new thermostat could do alot.

1981 280ZX Turbo going to the Crusher
Nice mustang. I also have a 70 fastback, currently also building a 500hp + 4V Cleveland, but I'm using a upgraded AOD wide ratio that can handle up to 750hp. Will be a fun ride like yours. Still I love my 240Z ! It's stock, but that;s the beauty of it, I don't feel the need to put triples or camming the L24, just enjoy it stock, it's a different story I feel with the V8's.. it's a muscle car !

At The Salvage Yard
Haha good one ! I'm 50 in 20 years from now. But I agree with Chas haha, we might have the hoarder disease , but maybe like Chas says it's a whole different ball game over here..

At The Salvage Yard
I can still see alot of stuff on that Z that can be refurbed/used on a another restoration. Seriously in 20 years from now these parts will be hard to find and ask top dollar.

Another interesting auction

1973 Rebuild
Great job on your build, tank looks good I used por15 fuel tank sealer on my restored gas pump. Still holds fine though ? But I had it blasted, and just applied the por15 with a brush ( I needed way less ! ). Maybe the rough blasted metal helps sticking it. It still holds perfectly, and doesn't dissolve with the gasoline. But it was some nasty stuff, be sure to wear gloves and a mask

My Datsun 240Z
Hey Chas , thanks ! It passed APK again this year. How's your Z going along, are you going to drive it this summer to Japan Classic day ?
-
My Datsun 240Z
Well... 2 years passed again quickly, and the invitation for the road check ( APK ) showed up on the doormat again. It failed on the rear left drum brake ( I guess from sitting still during storage, because I rebuild the brakes nog so long ago ), so took it apart, but eventually with some searching I found a new main seal and it worked again. Passed for another 2 years ! Now the next one is in 2019, then the next one would be in 2021 but since new regulation coming into place in May 2018 about classic cars beeing 50 years and older are free of road check forever, I might have luck 2019 is the last time she needs to go for the road check. The car is back in storage now, I hope the weather gets better soon, but as it looks now, end of april.. she will sleep at least another 2 months

Too Good to Be True? – 125 Amp Bolt in Alternator @ Datsun Store
It would be no problem if you changed the entire wiring harness in the car for a modern version. I don't know if that is there for the Datsun but it put a wiring harness from american autowire in my mustang, and that works with a modern self regulating alternator Edit: there's no harness specific for the 240Z, but there are " universal kits " that if your handy, can make fit into the car.
