240z rebuild / restoration right down to the shell
Did you use aerosol spray glue for the headliner? i've not had any luck getting mine to stick with the aerosol stuff. next i'll try that stuff in the can with a roller. I think part of my problem is the padding is rotted but i've heard upholsterers say that aerosol stuff doesnt hold. How is yours holding up? did the wrinkles flatten out?

Question for any AT Gurus
You might want to ask datzenmike over at ratsun.net. He seems to be know alot about Jatco automatics. Used automatics are sometimes free or very low priced but sometimes its a crap shoot. But they do seem to last forever if treated well. I bought one off ebay for cheap. The shipping costed more than it did. You could use this opportunity to upgrade to a later zx auto with lockup torque converter or a turbo zx automatic that has slightly different gear ratios and added clutch discs for higher performance. Replacing that part no doubt will be quite a chore/adventure but if you want to learn then i say go for it. If it were me, I would get an extra trans just in case something goes wrong. check out this video on tearing down a ford c4 which is very similar to the jatco. Its not for the faint of heart

Bizarre story about 69 shellby gt 500
Never washed his car because he feared rust? If only there were z owners out there like this guy. Somewhere out there i hope is a 1970 series 1 240z that has 44 years of dust instead of rust on it. 1969 Shelby GT500 goes to auctioned off after 40 years in storage | Digital Trends Years ago, 1985 to be exact, I had an encounter with a green 69 cobra just like this one but it was kind of rough shape. The guy said he paid 30K for it then. It had original paint and original upholstery. The fiberglass hood had cracks and the fiberglass fenders were wavy. My job was to repair the bodywork and prep it for paint. It took me 2 months to get straight. The owner went on to become a senator in California. . I googled him and I see he now owns a 66 cobra replica. He's quoted on a website saying "I want to own an original shelby" So it must have been sold. Too bad for him. Sounds like he regrets selling. It would be worth 6 figures now.

Headed In Vegas - Z Things To Do?
Self Service Inventory Search | Nevada Pic A Part pic a part currently has 2 zx's and 81 and a 83 I once scored a newly rebuilt N42 head here. Still running it on my car. Do NOT try taking big greasy parts back on the plane with you like i did. Had to ship it home using usps. TSA doesn't like greasy flammable parts in the plane cargohold. Remember too, it's bloody hot in this area in the middle of summer. I suggest an umbrella and lots of water. and there's always the las vegas craigslist las vegas for sale / wanted classifieds "datsun 280z" - craigslist And if like IMAX theatres there's one inside the big pyramid. cheap entertainment... you'll need that after spending hundreds $$$ on the live shows.

Manual to automatic transmission swap
Have you looked into the differences between the zx turbo automatic with lockup torque converter and the plane jane jatco 3 speed?

Removing paint from Door Panels
I've used automotive enamel paint reducer before and its not harmed vinyl. If the paint was really hard i'de use cheap lacquer thinner. The spray gun wash stuff they sell at home improvement stores. One thing i did note is lacquer thinner really dries out rubber weatherstripping. So don't use it on any rubber.

new daily driver
good choice for a daily driver. hows the jetta for reliability? I bought a tdi beetle for a daily driver and am starting to regret it. poorly engineered and inferior quaility plastic interior parts. I've heard horror stories of owners having to pay 2000$ to replace the alternator. The whole front end has to come off. It really reinforces my opinion on the quality of engineering that went into the zcar.

My new baby 72 240z
What i've read about bypassing the heater core is cylinder #6 runs a little hotter is all. Your emergency repair should have not caused any severe overheating. In new york you really need a heater in the car. I wouldn't remove it from the cooling system. I'de get some braided hoses for it from the dealer if they're still avail and pull the dash. I had purchased some replacement non braided hose from a z parts supplier and they just didn't last. Another possibllity is a defective radiator cap. After shutting down the engine, pressure builds up in the coolant system and if your radiator cap isn't releasing excessive pressure into the overflow tank, it can blow out hoses too. So check or replace the radiator cap. Those thermostat bolts look kinda rusty. Be careful pulling them off. I'de hit them with some wd40 or some rust cutter before trying to loosen them.

8/70 240z transmission question
A turbo zx auto with a lockup torque converter and one of these shift kits would make a nice desert highway cruiser.

vacation in Japan
Just got back from a 2 week vacation in Japan. Went to the toyota museum in nagoya and saw my first 432 in person. Wish the hood was open though. They had on display a 1932 datsun that they said is the oldest datsun in existence. On the way from tokyo down to the hakone area I spotted a skyline on a trailer. All decked out for racing. Had a carbon fibre hood and spoiler and probably tons of other goodies. and in appreciation of all things that go fast i took a look the bullet train museum.

car dealership that time forgot
first there was the one dealership in nebraska now this one in alabama. Not many cars but a intact parts dept in the basement. It would be so cool to see an old 240 or 280 covered in dust sitting in a warehouse like this with the original window sticker and 0 miles. The dealership that time forgot | Fox News I stumbled on a video of the last AMC dealership that was just abandoned. Still had part of the old amc logo on the sign outside. Its sad seeing those amx's and javelins sitting outside in the elements. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYqXN4RJxn0

did my good deed for the year
Last week I bought a diesel vw bug off craigslist here in hawaii. Totally thrashed pos but i wanted a TDI diesel for the gas mileage. 212k miles and greasy as hell inside with dog fur stuck to the grease. The grease was from a kitchen where the guy worked. He was asking 1300 and i offered him 900 and he jumped at it. Well fast forward next day cleaning the car out I find an envelope between the seats. Rip it open and 1100 bucks cash falls out along with restaurant cash register receipts. I ask my wife... well what do you want to do? She smiles and says give it back to him. May be something to do with being buddist, dont know. So i call him and ask him if he lost any money recently. He says no.I describe the envelope's contents and he says oh yea it must be from my restaurant cash register drop. This thing is dated 2 months ago! you think he would have noticed one nights proceeds missing. Well i'm still cleaning out the damn dog fur and grease and ordering parts and am starting to regret my good deed. The radiator is bent and the a/c condenser is toast along with the plastic radiator support. Oh yes and he did give her a reward of 100$ which i thought was nice. she sent me a picture of it on the phone. That paid for the towing as it didn't run when I bought it. but... maybe karma is coming back my way. I put in a new fuel filter and it fired right up. I was thinking it needed a new injection pump.

anyone in norcal - redding area looking for a 240/280?
2 cars for 1000 bucks. you get a 73 240z and a 75 280. i'de buy it for the 240 alone. looks like a calif blue plate car. 1975 Datsun 280z/73 240z parts car I have a 75 Datsun 280z with a running L24 and automatic transmission for sale, that has a 73 240z as a parts car to go with plus many other extra part. Parts include 2 fenders( right and left), a right side headlight cone, and many other small parts(marker lights, bezels, bolts, etc.) I have a title for the 75 but nothing for the 73, the 75 is cancer free, just has some surface rust that you can see in the picture. It has a small hole in the passenger floor board, the dash has no cracks, and all the glass is good except for the crack in the front windshield. the interior needs some work(Headliner, seats, carpet) its all there though besides the carpet, it has a sun roof, and 4 slotted illumico's that go with. the engine is in but isnt wired up yet, the transmission needs bolted in the rest of the way and shift linkage hooked up,and the gas tank needs put back in along with the interior. It is a solid car just needs some work to get it back together, and on the road again, hasnt been registered since 06 and from what i have read up on it could be out of the system since it hasnt been registered in 8 years. I am asking $1000 cash for the pair and all the parts included, there is over $400 in glass alone just with the 240z plus whatever you get for the extra fenders and parts you dont use so no low balls, im firm at the $1000 serious buyers only please, no payments.
