As an aside. I just found out that the MG guys seem to like these transmissions too...

So Cody's Wagon is getting closer to being whole. We need to rebuild the 5 speed we had in it because 1-2 was baulky and reverse was stubborn. I believe this is an FS5W71B wide ratio I am trying to source a reverse idler. May have a lead on that. I have looked at @Dave WM 's thread, @Av8ferg 's thread and one that @EuroDat was in. I will probably use Dave's videos for tear down and build but I need to get all the parts here. I will also use Zkars recent teardown thread. Who did people order parts from? Can I just order a kit that will cover most of the parts I need? Do I need to order the bushing for the rear end (Titan bushing possibly)? I have Chas' parts pdf and exploded view although I wonder how many of those parts are NLA (the list is from 2012) nd I really don't know which are priority parts to replace... I remember there being one 5spd that had some parts that weren't available, maybe some synchros, black or something. How do I identify that? Also what should we check before teardown? there was a post by Chas that talked about checking baulk ring to gear clearance but I didn't get it to print very well. Also the rings that the shifter forks ride in appear (to me) to have some pretty significant grooving...

Cliff, you don't heal like you used to at your advanced age and use! All I see when I ride now is a big belt sander going underneath me. And I don't like being sanded!!

At least the engine bay pics aren't as painful as the interior pics! 1...,2..., 3... Squirrel!!

I know, I know... But I find they dont always adjust as designed and the pedal stroke gets longer to take up the space. The discs really dont have that issue

I rode my neighbor's CBR900RR, it was stupid fast! Would have been really easy to over ride your abilities on that bike

I agree, I would try to straighten out the damage on the control arm. Haven't seen the shims before Most rear brake upgrades dont increase brake efficiency. Some can throw off the F/R bias and increase stopping distance. All that said I am going with rear disc because they are self adjusting.

Kids are amazing projects but you might find you grow as much as they do...😉

I suspect the car was in a major collision. Front was trash, rear tail light panel trashed, doors messed up and they found a 280 donor and rebuilt it. It seems to fit the configuration the best

Except the gear in the tranny is 23 teeth and one of those is 22t and one is 21t!

Maybe somebody else will confirm. I wouldn't think twice about deleting manifold heating

I believe that is the thermostat for the carb water. If it works its a rare part for those wanting to run flat tops

I normally remove the metal retaining ring first with some picks. Then it should come out pretty easily

That is why I like seeing the color on an entire car. It's hard to get a feel for how the color will look from a small sample. A car sized sample is much better...

I had considered that they grafted a whole 280z front end onto a damaged 240z. That would explain all the under hood anomalies but not alter the firewall VIN. Graft the rear end in too because it was caught in a pile up???
