2 pointsEuroDat is great at spotting fine details in photographs. He spotted an extra C-clip crammed between a couple of gears for me not too long ago.2 points- 4-speed: No 1st 2nd gears

2 pointsThe media are just parrots with agendas. Investigative reporting is long gone. Journalists are mostly poorly educated these days and filled with poisonous ideas. They also have time machines that cherry pick the good from now and apply it to the past with no understanding. News and journalism is $^!#.2 points- 4-speed: No 1st 2nd gears
2 pointsHi Jeff, I wrote that late before going to bed. I'm away from home at the moment and only have my work laptop and tablet with me, so doing this from memory. I also borrowed a screenshot from ZedHeads post. Btw, I meant 3rd/4th and 1st/2nd forks could be reversed, but I typed reverse and 1st/2nd. Tired😴 Why I asked about the striking rod not engaging? If one of the forks (pos#5) is reversed, then the striker slots won't line up for the striking rod. That is clear in the photo. The selector rod is then twisted (turned) in the adapter plate where the interlock balls are located and that is locking the selectors. Your reverse is also binding in the 3rd/4th striker slot It looks like you have one of the selector forks mounted on the selector rod backwards. The forks for 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th are the same (Pos#5) . The only difference is how you fit them. 3rd/4th the long tab should be down and 1st/2nd it should go over the top of the gear. Because the 3rd/4th striker slot is interferring with reverse, it looks like your 3rd/4th fork is mounted backwards (180 degrees). It's easy to do and will cause all your problems. The good news is it is an easy fix. Swap it around and do the check with a rod to see if the interlocks move correctly. You shouldn't need to hone it and if you do, don't remove too much. The hole diameter effects distance, too large a diameter and you could eliminate the interlock function. I added two of your photos with the area highlighted. You can see the forks are in the same direction and 3rd4th it binding with reverse.2 points- COVID-19
2 pointsGuys, I'm removing myself from this thread. Let me tell you why... Since I am the administrator of the site, I feel that it's my responsibility to stay out of sharing my personal views on subjects like this. Not because I think I am wrong, but, it's because I came to the conclusion that I really have no idea what is correct. I stated before that I don't trust most information I read on the Internet... so, why would I be here sharing my views about a subject that I know nothing about. It makes sense to know that all the opinions shared within here are not the responsibility or views of the club as a whole. If I'm in here sharing my views, it can be construed as such for the club and I don't feel it's good for me to put the club into that position. I do support questioning everything though... make any health decisions based on supporting yourself and your loved ones. Take care of each other. Mike2 points- COVID-19
2 pointsThat's why I posted that media bias chart earlier. There needs to be news. But get your news from the top tier news organizations. Not facebook or some guy posting memes on the internet.2 points- Need help 5 speed identification
1 pointIt looks like the F5C71A to me. It has all the right signs, but I'm not an expert on these transmissions. I know the 71B and 71C very well. I had one of these F5C71A apart back in 1983 from a mates old 240Z.1 point- saturday night music thread
1 point- Float level advice, please.
1 pointYup. Absolutely considered it. That and/or taking material off the bottom of a floaty float. But I guess my first order of business was to try to find out if it's just me. If it's just me, maybe I need to go back to float school. I think today I'm going to try to measure the density of an old OEM float alongside a new aftermarket version. I've already weighed them (and they're the same to the resolution of my scale), but I haven't measured their volumes.1 point- Carpet Fix
1 pointI agree 100% and I've long wanted to replace the cut-pile in my 77 with some new loop. The cut pile screams "plush" 70's to me. Makes me want to do some disco. Even though it's older, I think the loop pile looks more modern.1 point- Carpet Fix
1 pointI am about to do my interior so this is a timely thread. I bought a loop carpet kit about 2 yrs ago from MSA. It is basically garbage. Paid around $200 for the whole thing and it’s going into the trash. Fitment was terrible as well as the material quality. I think going custom is a better approach. Do it once right and never look back. I’m going to take mine to be custom done at a local shop with a guy that been doing it for 25 years. Sometimes it better to have someone who does this everyday then have a half arse job on your hands. Sure it’s more $$ probably 3x but then your have something to be proud of. That’s my opinion. I also prefer the loop over the cut pile. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point- COVID-19
1 point- Wheel and tire size recommendations
Sorry for the late reply. I have been working on a house renovation that has me loaded with a long "HoneyDo" list. My wheels are Konig 16" by 7" wheels paired with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires. The size of the tire is 205 55R16 91V. They work fine with no interference with car frame or body. I chose that size so that the circumference of the tire would match the Datsun OEM tire circumference. This allows the speedometer to give accurate speed (MPH) readings and accurate mileage gauge readings..1 point- COVID-19
1 point1 point- Float level advice, please.
1 pointWell maybe it's extra floaty aftermarket floats or something. I'll post a pic of what I got going on when I get a chance. The problem I'm having is that the level is too low. So I bend the tab down some. Level comes up some, but not enough. And then when I keep bending the tab down, I eventually run into the situation where the float mechanically bumps into something (underside of the lid or inside of the bowl chamber) before the valve closes, and it overflows. Basically, I can't bend the tab down far enough to bring the level up to spec before I run out of compliance. It's like the float is too floaty. I got tired of messing with it before and went ahead and bough all new parts... New aftermarket valves. New aftermarket floats. I was hoping it would all magically come together with the new parts, but no joy. I've got some antique OEM (not aftermarket) floats here... Maybe I'll see how they float.1 point- Carpet Fix
1 pointMy 260Z was loop, the "museum" '75 280Z is loop, my son's '76 was loop so maybe it's just the late 280Z's that had cut pile.1 point- Float level advice, please.
1 pointA while back I looked through older SU (including Hitachi) books and forums about the float level heights. Many of the sites said the same thing. "The float levels aren't critical but the fuel level should be near 3/8" below the carb bridge". That would place the fuel level 9.525 nozzle turns down from the top.1 point- Carpet Fix
1 pointDon’t drink the pink sugar!! That stuff will kill you, stick to the Milo’s original sweet tea. Thanks for the info, Hopefully I can get some time soon for my next project. Did you ever get a Mata’s pizza?1 point- 4-speed: No 1st 2nd gears

1 pointPeople should keep in mind that the vaccines are not 100% effective. They just reduce the chance of getting infected, and reduce the chance of suffering severe effects if you do get infected. I am now seeing people in the supermarket acting like they are bulletproof and the risk is completely gone. I still mask up in the supermarket. Just calculating the odds, roughly, and why take a chance for a few minutes of mask-wearing inside. When the case numbers are way down I'll leave the mask at home.1 point- COVID-19
1 point"Media" could use more definition. You can't mean all of it, right? How do you keep up with what's going on? Even the Weather Channel is "media". https://marketbusinessnews.com/financial-glossary/media-definition-meaning/ Generally, people should just remember that most of what we consider media these days exists for the purpose of making money. Not controlling the world, just controlling and manipulating people's impulses to spend money. Just keep spinning people up, over and over. Make 'em angry, ask for their money.1 point- COVID-19
1 pointI share your common thought on the media, “The true enemy to all of us”. I loathe the media and its’ agenda which I believe is to cause division, strife and fear in their effort to promote their business and control the masses and the direction of the country. Unfortunately, we allow it, and bite into the agenda hook line and sinker. Sadly, I only discovered this about 4 years ago when the whole controversy about the border wall came up. As a resident of San Diego, I am quite familiar with the wall and all of its pro’s and cons. While the local news station here would interview border patrol officials who would air their support and praise of the wall, CNN would interview residents in Texas who had the wall on their property and absolutely hated the wall. Obviously there are both sides to this issue. The issue I began to see is that only one side of this story was being told by CNN and most liberal media. Chances are you have never seen the significant number of border patrol officials and officers praising the wall, while you most definitely have been bombarded with how terrible the wall is. I learned through all this that the goal of the media is not to tell you a full story, it is to tell their side so that you follow their agenda and share their same ideals. And this can be said about most issues both liberal and conservative. By bombarding you with one side of the story, you only fully understand one side of the story. And by only knowing one side of the story, the opposite opinion seems foreign. So foreign in fact that it is now termed a ‘Lie’. If someone were to say that “the wall is a good thing”, someone with an opposing might even go so far as to say that is a ‘Lie’, even though there are many that actually like the wall. I use this as an example to show our current state of affairs and how the media operates. Another issue that would fall under this heading is the police brutality issue. While tens of millions of interactions between police and individual occur each year, only an incredibly small number of these interactions result in police brutality and an individuals death. However, the media will show this over and over again, ad nauseum, to make you feel that it is a horrible problem and police are bad. The reality is that given the number of interactions, it is incredibly rare. The presentation by the media comes across as all police are bad and we need to get rid of them or defund them. You should hopefully realize at this point that this is the media agenda, and unfortunately most media indulge in it. It promotes their business. Why just stick with the police? What about bad doctors, bad contractors, bad salesmen, bad internet trolls, bad engineers (wait a minute, I’m and engineer)? The reality is, that if you look hard enough, you will find a few bad apples in just about any profession, and a number of those I just listed could cost you your life if they do something wrong. Beware the agenda. The medias’ goal is to present an agenda and control your thinking. And yes, this is particularly appropriate on the Covid thread. Media is presenting an agenda, and most of us are just lemmings, following along. If we hear a different idea or opinion from our main news source, then it must be a ‘Lie’. Honestly however, it is just a different opinion, right or wrong. My whole point here really is that we just need to be civil. I may not agree with you and you may not agree with me. We should however, listen and respect each others comments. And most of all…don’t let the media run your life. (Haven't posted in a while...this should surely get me in trouble)1 point- 4-speed: No 1st 2nd gears
1 pointAren't the slots on the ends supposed to all line up? It looks like its in reverse in that picture1 point- 4-speed: No 1st 2nd gears
1 pointI take it the transmission selected all the gears before you dis, antled it? It will not move (jammed) the 1st/2nd selector or you can't select it, meaning the striker rod won't go over into the 1st/2nd selector? I'm trying to understand you problem a little better. It could be a problem with the selector interlock balls. You should have 4 interlock balls (two between each selector rod and three checking balls. The checking balls are installed with the springs and caps after each selector rod is installed, but the interlocks must be fitted during assembly, before you fit the next selector rod. That is in the following order: Insert reverse selector and fit fork in correct direction, drop two interlok balls through the top hole or poke them in through 3rd/4th checking ball hole. I generally drop something like a philips head screwdriver or round rod, or pencil (something smaller in diameter and longer than the hole) down in the hole and move the selector rod to see the balls move up and down freely. Then install 3rd/4th selector rod and repeat process for 1st/2nd. It could be the reverse and the 1st/2nd gear folks. They are the same, but reversed. If you fit them back to front you will lock up the transmission. It they are both facing the same direction (longer tab on fork) then one is not fitted correctly.1 point- Float level advice, please.
1 pointArrgh... Stupid floats!! These things are working me over! I'm finding it difficult to get the fuel level high enough. Is it conceivable to think that maybe today's gasoline has a higher specific gravity than the gas they were using forty years ago? Heavier gas makes the floats more buoyant and that drops the fuel level? Maybe some sort of EPA thing to slow down evaporation? Or am I just losing my touch?1 point- saturday night music thread
