The big milestone today, paint and clearcoat done! So nice to say that, God I find painting so stressful, just so easy to screw up and wreck all your work. 3 coats of colour and 3 coats of clear, lots of little dust particles but they should all come out when I start sanding the clear with 1200 grit. It's the same colour is was when I bought the car only now the rust, dents and orange peel are gone😉
  2. Quick thinking Lincoln, never give her ammunition to use against the Z.
  3. It's all about Youtube channels.
  4. OH! Now that I know what the heck is going on in this post I have a little input. I bought a car several years ago and upon getting it home and going through everything I found I had these switches (and hand throttle). @AZ-240z, now after reading that thread (again as I'm certain I read it back when it was active) I will have to go and look at the tail lights in this Z (it is in storage) to see if it has the extra bulb. How exciting!

That's a superb result, Chris. You have really modest facilities compared with a lot of guys who display their results on the internet, so this is really a great testimony to your skills, ingenuity, and persistence. A great illustration of why this site and its contributors are really exceptional in a world of contracted-out, done-by-others restorations.
  6. You should park that outside until rain comes in. It happened in Memphis I remember and now again. My pilot lighted water heater is in my garage so that's kind of scary. I'd be like the house on Wizard of Oz flying through the air. Glad you have a phone in your pocket!
  7. As far as I know, it hasn't been but I will be tying vacuuming the lines, blowing air though them, and the cable tomorrow. Hopefully I can figure it out and get this running!
  8. I would drive as far as it took to get the car I wanted, but I like to drive. Not a huge fan of planes either but we have had people from the forum fly in to look at cars and then drive them home. I prefer to trailer an unkown to me car. Ask for a couple of days off. Maybe a Friday and Monday. That gives you 4 days. Where in Ohio? My daughter is in Columbus
  9. There is the possibility that your boss loves Zs too. If he does, he may want to go with you.

On the subject of pilot bushing (bearing) removal, here's the strangest and possibly the most effective method I've ever tried. I couldn't remove the pilot bearing from our RX 7. Small puller, regrinding the tips, nothing worked. An old mechanic friend asked me if I tried bread. I immediately asked, "What the hell are you talking about? He said stuff bread into the bearing center and get a bolt slightly smaller than the bearing center. Smack the bolt and add more bread. After repeating those two steps three times the bearing slid right out, to my amazement.
  11. Had to execute and emergency repair this AM. Last night while at my son Lacrosse practice my wife texts me that the master bedroom and bath smell like gasoline! [emoji15] I knew right away It was the Z. I had just put 5 gallons of gas in it and it had to be a leak somewhere. I blamed it on the pressure washer which I had been using that day and uses gasoline. So today I got up and pull the car out and replaced the two fuel lines coming off the tank (return and one to pump) I also replaced the online filter. They didn’t have the cheap one so I opened for a different one? After putting double clamps on two of the line I saw a tiny bit of fuel dripping from the bottom of the tank. It was coming from where the return line pipe exits the tank. The weld was broken/rusted. I had little options and drained the tank all the way and then put JB weld around both pipes that exit the tank. We’ll see what happens tonight!!! Looks good for now, not pretty but it’s a gas tank. I had this tank totally restored a couple years ago and this must have already has a pin hole at the exit pipe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Two good things about a z like this: 1.) It's heavily modified, which typically lowers the price. 2.) The owner probably took great care of it if they were willing to put the time and money into modifying it. If you find one with modifications you find tasteful, then it'd be a good buy. As Patcon said, z's move really fast - listed and sold within weeks. Keep your finger on the trigger!
  13. I actuality like the body kit, it looks pretty stock. As long as it's not lowered... Sent from my OnePlus 7 Pro using Tapatalk
  14. I think that spot is where the harness plug mounts .
  15. Here's a thread with a bunch of info about how those gauges work: https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64427-no-oil-pressure-after-rebuild/ I'm thinking you might be having a problem with the little regulator switch contacts inside the gauge. Source impedance too high, load drags the signal down, blah, blah, blah... That sort of thing. If the contacts get dirty, the voltage seen back at the sender unit will be lower than desired.
  16. In todays market, if you find a decent car for a reasonable price you have to move on it. Go see it, give a deposit, something...
  17. I believe you are about an hour away from Austin. Correct? That said, I would suggest contacting the Capital Z Club and find out where they are having their next membership meeting or event. Introduce yourself and express you interest in Z car and that you would like some advice. Many members have a wealth of knowledge and experience that they are willing to share. In fact, your networking skills may result in an offer to inspect a car with you. Better yet, a club member may know of someone who might be wanting to sell their car. Moreover, members have lots of situational awareness of what is out there in the area and may advise you about some sketchy car up for sale. What strikes me odd about the car you pictured is the fact that it has a performance-oriented triple set up with an MSD ignition, yet it's running an AC compressor and air pump parasitically robbing horsepower.

Clutch kits aren't that pricing and it's worth the peace of mind - I can't imagine putting everything back in the car only to discover that something wasn't right. I'm in the process of a major rebuild on my 240, replaced everything including the pilot bushing. This bushing is sometimes overlooked because it can be tough to get out. You'll know it's bad by the nasty squeal, but then it's too late. Here's a tip - get a 5/8 bolt or piece of bar stock, one wrap of black electrical tape to make it snug, fill the hole with grease and hit the bolt head sharply - the hydraulic pressure pops out the bushing. Here's a photo, better than an explanation. I hit it about 6 times with a heavy mallet, no need to be gentle.
  19. I would try Motorsport Auto.
  20. That isn’t coolant. It is oil that has escaped from the crank seal has gotten dirt on it.
  21. Here are a few photos from the enduro race from Sunday at The Mitty. Greg Ira and Woody Staub piloted the #5 Dan Parkinson tribute car to a 3rd in class finish.
