  1. Let the finger pointing and rampant speculation begin! Who was first? Who copied who? Too similar not to have been "influenced" by the other, right?
  2. What's old is new again. Carparts.com is JCWhitney. I ordered parts from some on-line entity way back when the internets started going commercial and I think it was carparts.com. I probably have some old yellowed receipt in a box in some file somewhere under the roof, but it's certainly not worth the time hunting for it. In any event, they fizzled and went dark. Probably competition from places like Rockauto doing the on-line thing better than they did. But in the middle of 2020 I got an email from JC saying they were re-launching the carparts.com thing: "JC Whitney has stayed in motion for more than a century, and we are constantly evolving to bring our customers quality auto parts at the best value. That’s why we’re excited to announce our first-ever line of accessories and overall relaunch on CarParts.com, where we’ll be able to provide you the same dedicated service, but upgraded with an even better shopping experience, along with the right parts to do the things you love—and to do them better! We’ll be moving over on July 16, 2020, and look forward to getting you set up in our new home. If you have a JC Whitney account, we’ll automatically create one for you on CarParts.com. Your JCW order history, address list, and My Garage details will still be available on CarParts.com after the change. Once migrated, you will receive a welcome email and we will automatically include you in our VIP Email List. For more information on account and email subscription transfers, orders in progress, warranties, and more, please visit the FAQ section on our history page." So what is old, is new again.
  3. My local junkyard rolled a ZX over onto it's side allowing me full access to the motor/transmission. Maybe they would do that for you? For a case of beer, a plane ticket and hotel stay I'd be on my way.
  4. Render: A shocking sight rendering you speechless.
  5. I don't recall ever seeing painted oil pans on other motors, also. It seems like a good idea (for rust control I assume) that Nissan coated the inside surfaces, until it begins to fail. Interestingly, I just disassembled my motor, which has been on an engine stand since 1997 (all openings stuffed with something, so not hermetically sealed), and there was no rust on anything at all. I hadn't turned the motor in over a year. Whenever I did, I removed the plugs and squirted oil into each cylinder, and removed the valve cover and poured oil over the cam. Then give a few turns by hand. Since putting it on the engine stand, I've probably done that maybe 12-15 times. When I took it apart, everything was still covered in a thin film of oil. So I am ambivalent about repainting the oil pan. It's just one of at least 1000 decision points as I try to move forward.
  6. Out of hibernation, step son slightly alarmed with all the 'whooshing'. Guess you cant please everybody!
  7. They look like Keen hiking boots to me. High dollar boot. I wear hiking boots to church. I need the support.
  8. What about a dip in some hot chemicals? From a radiator to an engine block there's vats all over.
  9. I put seats from a '90 300ZX in mine. I first saw some at the old MSA Zcar show. Asked the owner to sit in in his car. They were way more comfortable and supportive. He said it wasn't too difficult to install. He and I used the original adjusters from our S 30s and drilled a couple of new holes. Went right in and I've never regretted the swap. My old tired butt and back thank me whenever I go for a drive. Cheers, Mike
  10. Thanks for your advice for the orientation of the gas strut, will reassemble that way after painting. I will moke up the modification once the car is back on wheels, and evaluate the effect and luminosity, I will keep you posted.
  11. Differential made it in tonight. Next we need to get the suspension loaded so we can torque everything down under load.
  12. I don't know, the guy seems scary. Look at that shoe. p.s. people still use checks?
  13. That would be my Dad speaking through me again. Here are 2 "flying contraptions" the old man built when he was a teenager in the 1930's
  14. The site just shows the wrong parts overall, for a 280Z. It should be showing injectors instead of carbs, and a high pressure regulator. When I clicked "Fuel" on the site, for a 1976 280Z, the carbs popped up as an option. Basically, the site has lots of wrongness on it. It's just a messed up attempt to compete with Rockauto I think. I did see Injectors though, on the page. But how do I know they're the right ones? Maybe it will get better. https://www.carparts.com/fuel-systems-and-components?&vehicle[cylinders]=6&vehicle[liter]=2.8&vehicle[submodel]=Base&vehicle[model]=280Z&vehicle[make]=Nissan&vehicle[year]=1976
