1. I have a drawer full of jigs and things I’ve made over the years to make things “better” but I made one today that I’ve been wanting to build for some time. When installing new stock T/C bushings, you have to compress the rubber quite a bit to get the end of the rod threads to stick out far enough to allow you start the nut. I had previously modified a special welding vice grip, but it was a struggle at best. It is now in the metal recycle bin. Here is what I built. Some 5/8 threaded rod, few nuts, some 1/4 plate steel, piece of 5/8 ID pipe (garage door spring tubing). M6 threaded rod to keep the two halves aligned. Added that after using it to do the first one. This is the vice grip tool I modified before. The jaws are always in a V shape, never parallel.

It's a lack of leadership that has put the US in the position it is in. A good leader sets the example and sets the narrative. Nations across the globe are under attack. How the leaders responded dictated the outcome. It's like we were attacked by a foreign enemy and the answer from the federal government was for states to buy their own bullets on ebay. Not in a pandemic. In a pandemic your actions control MY destiny as well as yours. I'm fine if you want to jump off a cliff. If you try and grab me as you go off the edge I'm going to have something to say about it.

Although COVID19 spreads mostly through the nose and mouth, scientists now conclude the greatest risk comes from assholes.

Just stop the testing and this all goes away!
5. Gland nut removal tool .... Old bracket + 8.8 bolts and a step drill to widen the centre hole. Just add hammer. 2lb is ideal. Oh and bolt strut bottom to the garage floor pre-drilled with a couple of rawlplugs in place. Clearly the original gland nut needs a couple of holes drilled but the new ones from Koni come pre-drilled.

Do you people not read the news? Trump has ended the pandemic! He's "rounded the curve" more times than Mario Andretti. Washington, D.C. (WTRF) — The White House’s Office of Science and Technology listed “ending the COVID-19 pandemic” as one of the top accomplishments of the Trump administration’s first term. A release from OSTP said, “From the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic the Trump Administration has taken decisive actions to engage scientists and health professionals in academia, industry, and government to understand, treat and defeat the disease. “ Dr. Kelvin Droegemeier, the office’s director, said, “President Trump has solidified America’s standing as the most scientifically and technologically advanced nation the world has ever known”.
7. Uummmmm, every 2-3 months, I make like 3-4 calls on it a month. Absolutely, gas station maps have really taken a dive the last few yrs. The Rand-Mcnally large map books are pretty good and they don't fall apart the second time you open it.

Your actions control your destiny. Everything else is just a suggestion.
9. I tried to find a decent paper map recently and it's about impossible. Even the Thomas Guide is essentially unfindable. And the internet maps are poor, the ones on your tiny phone thing, most of the streets and small cities aren't named until you zoom in on them. What you're supposed to do is turn on Location and do what your phone/computer tells you to do. "Turn left in 300 yards..." Doesn't work in the boonies, no coverage. It's incredible how technology's advancement is making us all less capable. I used to be able to read a map with my right eye while driving with my left one. https://laist.com/2018/06/22/thomas_guide_maps_the_rise_and_fall.php
10. Unless of course you don't need those "capabilities", in my case they are just more useless features, that's why my flip phone is good enough for my needs. I turn it on to make a call and turn it off when I'm done. Paper map users of the world unite!
11. This car is not 'HLS30-00059' in any practical sense. It is simply the identity of 'HLS30-00059' pinned onto a much later bodyshell. The description says that the body was 'replaced' ("...the original bodywork was in a lamentable state and had to be replaced...") but that is not possible on these cars as each bodyshell has its own unique identity - assigned to it by the factory - and it is non-transferable. The description tries to side-step this ("...very few “original” parts remain, and a substantial part of the bodywork is comprised of 1972 and 1973 parts...") but the bodyshell of this car is that of a complete post-1973 car, from which the original identity - in the form of the firewall-engraved chassis prefix and body serial number - has been removed, and replaced with that of another car. To all intents and purposes, 'HLS30-00059' no longer exists.
12. We have a "somethingCast" (Chrome maybe) and something else newer. Two dongles hanging off the back of the TV. Someone in the house surely knows how to use them. I don't use either of them because my flip phone won't talk to them.
13. Here is another way to share your knowledge. Post a couple of well posts, of cool tools you’ve made or bought that made your Datsun day go better. I’ll go first.
14. Yeah, I have an orange paint pen for this. Marked the rear ones, but couldn't see if i had marked the front ones because of the sway bar. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
15. You already have at least two other threads with this issue. Why don't you try sticking with those instead of cluttering up the forum. You won't get any better response this way. Maybe less...

It is exploding all over the planet. Leaders have nothing to do with it,.... it is the people and their actions to blame. i.e. if you think Biden is suddenly going to save the day you are fooling yourselves.... only you can protect yourself.

Try ‘kick@datsunwerks.com’ I saw Derrick online on hybridZ a couple weeks ago, he should be active.... he was advertising his panels to someone who was going to DIY them ha.
19. Describes me too, so I guess it fits. Haha!! Seriously though, about the only time I miss having a more highly featured phone is when I travel. For finding local attractions like food or entertainment, and directions to such places. Other than that, I'm still satisfied. It makes and receives calls and rudimentary texts. I'm good. And yes... I only have to charge it every couple of days. I see people sitting in public places huddled around the wall outlets charging their devices and sometimes quarrelling about the use of the outlet. My criteria for my phone goes like this: Makes and receives calls and texts. Small as possible. Long battery life. No external call activating buttons and cannot (not just "unlikely", but CANNOT) pocket dial by accident, even if I'm in there playing with myself and push a couple buttons by accident. That's about it.
20. He sent a few more pic's but has even more on Zdriver : https://www.zdriver.com/forums/fs-240z-260z-280z-280zx-70-83-242/70-240z-43197/#post348914 Here is a better look at the plate. Looks like something else was mounted in the lower holes where it would normally sit.
21. Might? I reproduced a Two piece Porsche rear fog light mount from a drawing on the inside of a box and made 50 copies... let’s see what Nicho can do with it.
22. Much like using carbs v EFi I guess :p But what we are not appreciating here is that Captain Obvious is still beating his clothes between two rocks by the river, winding up his gramophone / listening to the wireless set while winding his clocks daily.
23. Chromecasts work very nicely - I have them on four different TV sets in various parts of the house. A flip phone is, IMHO, an outdated piece of technology and continuing its use penalizes the owner by preventing access to many helpful capabilities. I generally buy used unlocked phones on Ebay - no contract and I save tons of money.
24. Good God man! You still don a flip phone!?!?!? You really do like your classics !!! ;)
25. Hi all, Recently pass smog test. Been enjoying it every chance I get. Even volunteer to do errands for wife just so I can drive it!!!! I've notice the steering wheel can only make one full circle and the "distance/length" of the tire doesn't cover much. to put it into perspective, I'm having trouble making a 2 lands U-turn. What I mean is the other day I at McDonald's drive through, I had trouble making a right U-turn. My Van and sedan seem able to make a right U-turn quite easily. Of course it inches outside toward the other land a bit, but not as much as the Datsun. I had to back-up a bit in order to make a turn. I had to make a three-point turn. A bit of embarrassed as it was lunch time and was quite a bit of long line ... ;) When I rebuild "grease and new bearing, seal replaced", I noticed the travel rod not that long/far. Is this normal or do I have to do a "drift" at the u-turn!!!! regards
26. Alright just an update for anyone who wanders into this forum topic with the same problem. There WAS a vacuum leak at the hose connecting to the aux air reg, I still have literally no possible idea how that leak made such a loud whistle, my ears would actually start to ring if I sat too close to the engine for too long. Anyways, I tightened down the hose and the whistle eventually died out. This then allowed me to set the idle with the screw to 700. So now the car runs like an absolute champ, thanks for the help guys.
27. Here's something for anyone finding the original question. These cars are full of clunking and thumping possibilities. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1976-datsun-280z-38/
28. Well done! At least you found it. I tend to mark the important load bearing bolts / nuts with a little bit of acrylic yellow (airfix model) paint. That way I know if the critters have moved at all. This sort of thing worries me a lot given my very spirited driving.
29. The basic rule for metric tap drill size is very simple. Tap drill equals thread size minus pitch, for M6x1.0 tap drill is 5.0mm (.1968"), closed imperial drill is #9, .1960". Here is a printable Starrett toolbox card with inch/metric tap drills and decimal equivalents that I have found very handy and a link on the Starrett website. https://www.starrett.com/docs/educational/decimal-equivalent-card---bulletin-1317.pdf Starrett-decimal-equivalent-card-imp-metric tap drill-bulletin-1317.pdf

31. It will still have the usual problems of surface rust in the engine bores and corrosion in the hydraulic system. Both are open to the atmosphere through open valves and vents. Don't try to start it without getting it ready to start, and even if the brakes and clutch work they'll probably fail quickly. Good luck, nice find. You could probably flip it to a museum or collector and use the money to buy a drive-ready car.

When you sell your 280z it will be bought by a collector, he'll drive it around the block and park it next to all the other cars he doesn't drive.
