Okay I have everything put back together so will go get 10gal of gas tomorrow morning and see if I can get it running, I got all the signals, lights and engine running well before I tore down so if I'm lucky ... I'll shoot a little video if all goes well.

Traced recent intermittent passenger side chirping / squeaky noise to half shaft u joint. Replaced all yesterday. My nice neighbor across the street let me use his lift for the job. I'll have to get one of those one day! Will be using his lift when my shipment from France / Zstory gets here next week. That will be a very fun project! Also continued on with prep & some paint chip touchup for Zcon.

I'm going to guess it's a 280Z? The other reason for cold air is a loss of vacuum at the AC control bottle. Pretty common. Split hoses. The vacuum woter cack (water ****) is normally closed.

After the final align & drive session I made a quick video to show the progress and current state of the car. Still need to do some carb tuning as I am getting some inconsistent spitting and popping but it does run and if you lay down the accelerator in second, it absolutely screams. I plan to work on the carbs throughout the week as time allows. The next big project is raising the rear a little using some 280z strut insulators, install the RT mount I have, and change the gear oil in the diff. Stay tuned!

Last weekend I ran the car up to Taylor Muffler to the get header collector welded to the existing pipe. Its a small Mom-n-Pop shop but they do good work for all budgets. After about 15 minutes and a $20 bill later I was headed back home. In 5th gear while cruising the drone is pretty bad so I will probably be back to get a resonator installed at some point. With the car running and driving again this officially wraps up the timing chain project I started on July 22nd 2018. Like all of our cars, as soon as you finish one project, another is waiting for you.

Put the switch back in, without wires, put the car in reverse and check for continuity across the switch contacts.

Johnny, As eluded to above... If you're running carbs, there's no effect when you remove the oil cap when the engine is running. That's only an issue for the fuel injected cars. Carbs could care less.

Hey Kats, I have both ZA and ZB radio's and noticed the red vs green light. I believe the ZA radio I got came out of a very early 240z. You car is the first I've seen with working red light. I think it may have applied to very early build date cars. The rest of mine are all Green.

It's hard to see in the photo and my internet here, in the middle of nowhere, is not the best. Can you get a better side on photo? It might pay to do some more checking before removing the transmission. It could be just a leaky rear oil seal and the yoke is throughing it up around the striker arm. I would clean it, drive and check again to confirm before removing the transmission. Replacing a rear oil seal is a lot easier than pulling the transmission. These transmissions can also leak at pin (pos #8). It's not common, but possible. Some Nissan garages in Australia used to cover the exposed ends of the pin with silicone sealant as a precaution to prevent leaking. These old transmissions have wear and the tolerances could allow enough oil to leak through the pin boring. The o-ring seal (pos #3) is after the pin.

Try to actuate the switch while it's not in th he tranny and see if the lights work

As Mark said, heater control valve or quite often I find the push cable that actuates the valve can bend and the valve never opens.

I have the 2000Z model, Kats. Could use a new faceplate or I'm going to have to repair it.

What do y'all think about spoons? I use one almost daily without poking my eyes out.

During the trip to my mother’s home , I dropped at Mr. Kawashima ‘s factory to help his work for another ZG which has been purchased recently by my colleague , senior 787 captain. His ZG is almost identical to my ZG , he also loves stock . So as much as possible, he want his car to be original. I helped the restoration of its 8 track system and , auto antenna . The antenna mast was broken like most of the car . Mr.Kawashima did a great job . He snapped of the tip then drilled a hole to be re- connected to the top rod . Also he drilled out the old remaining plastic from the top mast end , then he connected the plastic wire with the end by JB weld and punched it. Please see the video , I hope this can help someone who has a broken antenna mast . Kats
