  1. Oh thanks. I have been collecting parts for many, many years anticipating my restorations that I am just now getting to. I was well on my way with 26th when the economy fell apart in 2008 and everything went into storage. Now I'm back on track and spending time organizing my parts stash. 26th is on a rotisserie and I'm expecting her green before the end of the summer. Just now starting to take 27th apart. As I restore components for 26th, I'm pulling parts off 27th to restore at the same time. Just finished two perfect radiators from my collection of three. Will start posting pictures soon.
  2. This is the late, and very missed, Paul Taylor's car. It was my shop that brought it up to 295 points and serviced it for many years. Very fond memories of convoying to Z car shows with Paul and lovely wife Sandy. Seeing all the crap going down on that site depresses me to no end
  3. Pictures for the comparison of the CST-113ZA and the 2000Z . Another difference between 113ZA and 2000Z is the signal seeking function. 2000Z has an auto tuning system . In S30 cars , this system is also familiar with a car for US 240Z up to mid 1971 . You see the inside of CST-2000Z ,these are my spares . Enjoy ! Kats
  4. Finally got around to installing my new door skins and inner kick plates... aaaaaaand some more polishing. ?
  5. Just did a bit of photography today...
  6. I celebrated my 40th birthday over the Memorial Day weekend and my wife asked me what I wanted. My wish list was three things, 1. Lunch at Gloria's 2. Make me a homemade chocolate meringue pie and 3. help me put the engine back in the Z car. Needless to say I have a wonderful wife and I got everything I wanted for my birthday. It took us about an hour and a half to get the engine in. Getting it lined up on to the transmission and tilting the motor over at the same time proved to be harder than we anticipated. In the end we go it done together. I used some long bolts to help draw the engine the last inch to the transmission. If I ever do this again, I will just pull the transmission with the engine like I have done in the past with other cars and re-install in reverse fashion.
  7. I thought I would share a problem I had that I have never seen before. My 72 240z with 3 screw carbs was running perfectly. With the floats really well adjusted using the 10mm method, the carbs with SM needles run great at about 2.5-2.75 turns down on the mixture screw. With Colortune, idle is a touch rich while 3k rpm is nice and blue. I had been fiddling around with and testing out a lot of little things including fuel pump, some heat shielding around the carb float bowls, fuel pressure gauge, fuel pressure regulator, etc. Suddenly when out on a drive I noticed that the engine was running out of oomph at 4500 rpm. I went on with my other projects but kept trying to figure out what was going on with this symptom. It got worse though and I started noticing it at all rpms. Just felt like fuel starvation. I felt really good about ignition because I had recently changed to Petronix elect ignition and coil and had tested successfully after. Was getting good spark. Finally, I decided to pull the air cleaner and look at carb adjustment. When I did this, I noticed that the front carb fuel hose from float body to nozzle was crimped some. It wasn't closed shut but was visibly crimped into a kind of drastic angle. I thought...no way that is the problem. But, I had an extra new ZTherapy hose and swapped. Started up and runs perfect. So, the crimped hose was enough to starve the front carb bowl. How did it happen? I am guessing that sometime when I removed the air cleaner backing plate I reinstalled and crimped the hose somehow. Hard to say. Will probably never know. Just thought I would share in case someone else is struggling with similar symptoms and by some chance this solves the problem.
  8. Many thanks for sharing! Great info to always check these fuel bowl/nozzle hoses when I pull the Airfilter backer plate. I am very much like you as I often fiddle to assure the engine components are always working to spec so I can head off a problem before it fails completely. Started to have bucking/jerking when accelerating or going up hills, a loss of power problem. This occurred after installing ZTherapy SU's and tuned them with Colortune also. Thought it was my SU's and needed to tune/tweak them. Finally after it finally stalled completely and would fire sporadically but not run I figured electrical problem misfiring? Got it back to my garage I thought to check the rear fuel bowl for the heck of it since it was easy... and sure enough it was almost completely empty. Front fuel bowl was topped off pretty close to normal. Replaced the mechanical pump and then added an electric pump for insurance.. my 4BBL Holley was more forgiving when the mechanical pump was marginal ... my SUs were not! Thanks again for sharing....
  9. Just in time for Mike's new Build topic in the forums! Looking forward to your progress pics.
  10. “ pre Sammy Hagar era “ I agreed ! I saw conversations about audio system of 240Z in another thread , now I would like to post some pictures to distinguish the difference between an early 8 track system and a later 8 track system in Fairlady series . I did similar thing before ( on page 22 ) but , this time I want to show the more unique difference. A first model of the stereo system is Hitachi CST-113ZA , this one is for Z432 and ZL . When Fairlady 240Z series was available in Nov 1971 , the system was taken by Hitachi CST-2000Z . This is for Z432 / 240ZG/ 240ZL . The most biggest difference in looks between this and later CST- 2000Z is , a window of the face plate . 113ZA has a plain clear window while 2000Z has numbers on the window. So you see the orange bar in front of the numbers in 113ZA , see the bar behind the numbers in 2000Z . I think the reason of this change would be cost matter . Or to have more better reading in selecting station . However I realized the early model has wonderful , but very subtle features in the window . You will see the function at night . The early model provide the reflection of the number of selected track on the window. This is very subtle but I really like it . Later 2000Z can’t have the reflection of the numbers due to its window has white numbers covered most of its area . Please see the pictures of the early model , Hitachi CST-113ZA at night operation. 11. Thanks Alan , it took several hours to understand what you said . Now I found punctuation is important for sentences. I found this , “ a giant panda eats, shoots and leaves “ . This could be meant “ a giant panda with a gun ran into a restaurant and ... “ Anyway I just looked at the two Vintage Z cars at the auction floor . I didn’t bid for them . I don’t have money nor room for another Z without selling my cars . I have heard a buyer of the Vintage Z complained about the car to the auction organizer after the bid .Still got troubled . I don’t know what is the problem . I guess the car’s condition is not sufficient for the buyer . If I were the buyer , I would have avoided bidding.Or made a bid knowing what I am going to buy . I feel sorry for the two cars , they had not been taken care from the owner . People got excited about “ a barn find “ , but I think they should not have been in that condition. So , six digits is much suitable for this HLS30-02545 . I hope this car finds a new good home . Kats
  12. Both. I've received the rubber and it looks good. Anyone know how best to attached the rubber to the chrome piece?
  13. Cliff, I would have bought your car in a heartbeat. Looked solid. I’m curious to see what you think of this 240z. Part of me wants it to be a bad one so I don’t have to buy it. Getting it home could be a pain in the arse, and my life is pretty busy right now. But when the right car pops up, I’m going to grab it. I’d likely have to sell my 280z because my wife would kill me if I had another car. Looking forward to your findings. Rust is my biggest worry. I do t want a car that requires welding and extensive body work. Mechanical problems I can handle and have no issues there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Here's a picture of my faceplate for my OE radio in my '72. You're going to need the metal back too. EDIT: It does look rectangular in the 3rd photo.

  17. I rather suspect that you just ate Grandma.
  18. The comments section on Bring-a-Trailer auctions can be a bizarre watch. Having live bidders commenting on the very thing they are [potentially] buying opens up the way for all sorts of trouble. Vintage automobile values require slow cooking. Blitzing the dish in a microwave is a mistake.
  19. Don't forget the two 240z's that sold over $100,000 in 2018 thanks to @kats

I did some research and found 2 Needles close to the N-27 stock ones...... See my write up.... Hope this helps .... Good Luck... I compiled some data to share (all from this site) on Needle comparisons for anyone's interest to use. There are 2 Needles that come close to the N-27 profile during working ranges and I went with one that is a slightly richer at Stations #3 through #6, but leaner than "SM" ... I am currently testing the "SR" Needle that is close to the N-27 (but slightly richer through all stations when compared to Idle Diameter), have set the Mixture Screws on the SUs back to 2-1/4 Turns Out and it's idling rock sold again... put about 100miles on these needles and the car is running real well and will stick with them for now. The closest Needle profile to the N-27 is actually the "SL" , and may work better for those with a more Stock Like engine configuration. I used pages 10 & 11 for Needle Profile testing during driving from attachment: SU Needles - Tuning_SU_Carburetors.pdf I purchase my 0.100" Needles from SU Midel: http://www.sumidel.com/shop/category/-0100-fixed Data table in the last attachment.............................. SU Needle charts pp 47 to 49.pdf SU Needle profiles vs N27 Stock.pdf SU Needles - Tuning_SU_Carburetors.pdf
  21. You should read through tis thread, it talks about doing exactly what you're talking about. It does sound different than doing the electric pump in the early 240z's though.
