  1. Going forward for anyone recovering the seats on an early car, here's a tip on locating the hole for the hanger: After the old seat cover is removed, install a small round-head screw in the hole, install the new seat back cover, locate the round head screw, make a small "X" cut on top of the screw, remove the screw, install the seat belt hanger.

  3. Well another update, they're coming thick and fast now with show season about to hit and several small jobs still there to be done. The car has been with some friends at a local resotration company to replace our handbrake cable as I was fed up of crawling around on the ground with rubbish access. I am now however pleased to confirm that the car has now had a new handbrake cable fitted from Thailand. Strangely having only ordered one, another one came in the post the day after as well however its always good to have a spare even if it needed to be modified to fit as with most things on these cars. Thankfull it was just a snapped cable and not the mechanism! Next challenge will be piecing together the airbox setup which I have shamelessly taken inspiration from Richie, so here's to hoping that will be done before Donington. The airbox should be arriving this week to complete the parts collection. As if that wasn't enough we've come to the realisation that our front brake setup is actually worse than I realised and therefore needs to be ripped out sooner rather than later. We have been running Hilux S12+8 calipers and solid disks without actually realising but it now explains the slightly spongey pedal feel with a stock MC fitted. That 15/16 master cylinder sitting in my bedroom was more needed than realised! While we could just overhaul what's there this has been an area that I've wanted to address properly and future proof so that the car is well over speced for our needs. In the name of performance and safety we're therefore going to be fitting R32 GTR Aluminium brake calipers with custom brackets, disks and braided hoses thanks to Iamatomman (Gary). Not cheap however this setup will be alot lighter than the more conventional options and thankfully brake pad compund choice is very good. More news on this o follow shortly I'm sure.... In other news, I enjoyed the car over the bank holiday with my dad, it was the first time he's been out and driven the car since the full exhaust system was fitted. Safe to say we were both grinning like children with all the silly new noises it makes and also showing him what its capable of, I even dialled the coilovers up a bit as I think they've been a bit soft on reflection (more tweaking to be done there). I got chased down by a Focus RS in Sussex who was having a lot of fun, after a while we ended up stopping to chat and turns out he had a Laurel, Supra and Scooby and to top it off was a massive Jap car fan. He was super excited to see a Z on the road being properly used and driven given how few there are about in the UK. I also meet another 240z owner in traffic who's currently restoring his car and was admiring the Z and its burble, inadvertently it also drew lots of positive attention from a passing biker who loved the noise of the car when I was providing some aural pleasure to the crowd Finally I even took the time to give the car a deep clean and renovated and polished the paintwork in preparation for the upcoming shows, safe to say it was gleaming and now is already dirty again from being used and enjoyed. We're getting very close to a happy point with the car where fingers crossed I can back off with the progress and just really enjoy it rather than constantly tinkering and upgrading. All that said, until next time here's a little teaser of her sitting pretty from Friday.... 60EDEF27-039F-4278-B766-FF9EC6C1ADE9 by Mark Woodrow, on Flickr
  4. Hey Everyone, Let me introduce myself. My name is Craig , I live In Austin, TX. I have restored cars over the years but this is my first Z. I have been a member since last October 2018. I recently purchased a 1973 240z CA/AZ (one owner car) that's been hibernating for 25 years in a AZ. garage. I am working on waking it up. She is at a shop in Austin waiting to be worked on now. The previous owner started the car and it made a ticking noise, so they turned it off right away. I plan to keep it near stock and restore over time. It is presently Blue, I plan on taking it back to its original color Red 110. Right now I just want to get the car road worthy - I am going crazy waiting to drive it. I have been reading here a lot and educating myself and will continue to - so thanks for the help now and in the future.
  5. Don't even tell them the car right off, just run the part number. The youngsters like to argue what your asking for. My experience locally. Next day pick up if they have one close by usually.
  6. Thanks all for the help and the link to the shop manual. I'll leave a response when I get the lights working.
  7. Thanks Mark Maras , Chris , and Alan .You all are correct yes , I think so too. What I wanted to say is, look at this please . Excerpt from a movie by Nissan . Kats
  8. Blue, I did it before ? OK . And the silver car has a chrome Z quater emblem , and does not have a dove tail at the door , I see some super early cars do not have the dove tail , this can be a clue for determing the chassis number . Chris, I think I have visited the ball room in Christmas 2006. I just wanted to feel atomosphere and imagine an excitement when the 240Z was on the display . Yes , it was small than I expected. Kats
  9. Is it from the gentleman's area from a whale?
  10. Love the ash tray stands.
  11. That looks like authentic hyde of Nauga, distressed texture, on concrete. It is used for upholstery and not a proper material for a shop floor!
  12. Looks like it could be original maroon Naugahyde. I don't remember maroon seats in a Z.
  13. Yes BIG THANKS KATS! Mike posted a newspaper clipping of the LA show but it is difficult to see the car details. Your photo shows the classic grey plastic console, no D hubcaps,No OK sticker, and very light shift knob.
  14. During the recently completed restoration of my '72, someone offered $2,000.00 to take it off my hands. Sorry, I didn't store an NOS exhaust system for 10 years and lugged it around for two house moves just to sell it ?
  15. It's been a while since I posted - paid work and other things seem to keep getting in the way - but I've been getting things done slowly, a lot of parts have been plated and powder coated, but I'm back into the metal work now for (hopefully) the final stretch. The only other trouble area that I've found are around the rear arches and bumper area. I've already done some shaving (trim holes, side markers, etc.) and once the replacement sheet metal arrives for the arches, hopefully I can get the remaining metal work done in the next week. I've also started converting the rear end to 240z taillights with carbon panels and fitted the ducktail wing.
  16. I'm not so sure that there's an O-ring there. The ones I've seen are just two machined flats, no gasket, no O-ring. Worth removing to take a look, for sure, though. Easy. 19 mm wrench. I just went and messed with one I had off to see what I remembered. The body of the one I looked at is metal, crimped around a plastic mechanism. some have a metal plunger. I don't know if there's an O-ring inside or not. But the plastic portion was loose in its seat in the metal body. I wiggled it and oil started to work its way out. I think that the plastic, or internal O-rings, shrink after a few million heat cycles and leaks start.
  17. Yep, just did a valve job and during the process ended up with two sets Don't plan on needing it any time soon. It will end up in the storage shed never to be found when needed. Let me know where to send it
  18. 1 point
Looks like a lonely "76 280Z. Reptoid to the rescue!
  19. Hello 718Miata: Wecome to the Z Car community. Take that Datsun 240Z out for a long drive and chances are good that you'll stay in the Z Car Community for a long time. I really can’t believe anyone would let that 240Z go for less than $25K. Does it have title problems?, Floors completely rusted out? Was previous owner high on drugs? Were there no Dealers at that Auction? This is the 50th Anniversary of the “Z Car”.. and 240Z’s are HOT in the market NOW. There is a discussion thread on the this forum seeking information about how/where to find 240Z’s for sale. Looking only at the “Beauty Shots” - and projecting them onto areas we can not see - - if the undercarriage looks as good… It’s easily a $25K to $30K+ sale on BringATrailer. Get it up on a lift and get clear pictures of the floorboards/framerails and entire suspension - and you’ll get a better evaluation of its current market value from the group here.

  21. Hi Blue , did I post this before ? Kats
  22. I have pictures but I don't own them and I don't have permission to post them. Of course, the pictures are B&W so the color is up to interpretation. The Pierre car is dark and the Beverly Hilton car is light. See if you can find a copy of "Nissan News" from the fall of 1969. It has pictures of the Beverly Hilton car, page 8. Personally, I think the Pierre car is racing green with a tan interior but I'm biased in that direction. Here's a picture of the ballroom at the Pierre to give you an idea of the scale of that event. Evidently, it wasn't just the introduction of the Z. It was a display of the entire Datsun line-up for 1970, and, oh-by-the-way, "we're adding this personal sports car to our product line which will boost sales of all the fine Datsun products and generate increased showroom traffic".
