  1. Some of you have suggested a quick release steering wheel...anyone know about this little device? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=7991690629&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
  2. *SIGH* Just reminds me of the loss the Z community had last year.
  3. Right you are! More specifically it was the Supercharged Formula 1 Mach 5. And Racer X drove the Shooting Star. In real life there was a Mach 5 built on a Vette chassis, minus all the cool gadgets of course. For all your Speed Racer needs here's the site: http://www.speedracer.com/ And for the real life Mach 5 here's that site: http://www.driveamach5.com/ YES!! I'm a Speed Racer fan...I got a hold of the complete collector's box set a few years back and love it...all 52 episodes! Great topic by the way!!

The exterior door handles are interchangeable as long as the one you are not putting in has not been broken at all. I fixed mine just by swapping the side of the car it was on and I'm good until one breaks for a second time, then I'll have to replace it as it would be completely useless (both 'arms' on it would then be broken). As for the spare tire well...there used to be a guy in TN a couple years ago that ran some kind of Z parts business but when I dealt with him he was EXTREMELY SLOW!!! I mean something like 2 months to get the part from his hands to it's destination. Now since you may be in a position to pick it up that may not be an issue for you like it was me. I have a '75 parts car but as I recall the spare tire well was a bit rusty...may still be better than what you are working with and thus worth salvaging. Let me know and I can shoot some pix of it if you like. I have no idea what shipping on something like that would be though.
  5. Did we ever get the spring rate question answered? For those who don't want to read (or re-read) this whole thread the question is what is the spring rate for the springs included in the Tokico Illumina kit?
  6. I got a package deal on eBay a few months back, it included a full set (all 4 corners) of Tokico Illumina's and matched Tokico springs (I do not know the spring rates off hand). The total cost including shipping to my front door...$484 Way cheaper than your quoted price and this included springs. The eBay seller I got them from ALWAYS has this package listed for sale but his price varries a bit. Here's the thread where that eBay deal was discussed: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16649
  7. I get your point now. I thought that we were only talking about the battery tray, but yes your car can and will rust in many other locations if not treated and properly prevented.
  8. With POR15 why bother? The best way to keep this from happening again is not only to POR15 the area but then go to a battery like an Optima.

Not certain if you were meaning me or Tex as is just some random guy. I do hope that you are joking about 00005 though...otherwise you better tell me which u-pull-it and nobody else...or the girl get's it!
  10. Mine are white.
  11. I have something interesting on the pedal for the hand throttle as well. I believe that I can prove that the cable was the same length for both RHD and LHD cars. If you look at the location of all the parts it seems as though the LHD would need a longer cable...but I have a pedal that came with my hand throttle which shows how this was fixed so that the same cable length could be used. The pedal is an OEM part (not something that was fabricated) from the same car that the hand throttle and center console were pulled from. I will shoot a pic and post it this weekend. Check back...
  12. None of those pix are of my car, just something to help show the parts involved in the mechanism...and apparantly an incorrect implementation at the pedal end in the one you are talking about. As for the auctions, the fuse box had a starting price of $300 with a reserve and a BIN of $500. I'd rather spend $200 on the new MSA one with the late model fuses...but then again I'm not doing a concourse restore. Now the hand throttle...I just offered her $500 for it and was politely told hell no, when someone wants it bad enough they will pay my price, I'll just store it until then. :surprised I didn't expect that kind of reply. She may be right...or she may have two car parts forever for a car she has never owned and cares nothing about. It's sad that some people are SOOOO caught up on money. How did she get them...she told me this "I was cleaning out my dads garage and I found a bunch of new stuff which I have no use for".
  13. In addition to the thread mentioned (I just read it and there's a lot of good info there!) I will point to my website again for many pix (not much if any in the way of write ups but the pix may help out). http://www.pape.ws/allan_and_rosanne/Z-Car_Stuff/Hand%20Throttle/

CRAP!! I wish that I had known that...I have spent enough money on articles off eBay to have bought this book already.
  15. Yes!! Can you believe the BIN price for the series I fuse box!! OMG!! :surprised
  16. texasz replied to texasz's topic in History
Can you tell me more about this book please?
  17. Sadly I am all too aware of the going price of these...I got my used one late last year for $300 (included the whole center console and the correct pedal). Just saw some crazy person with a BIN price on a NOS one of $850! Sorry but that's just tooo much, I hated coughing up the $300 for my used one as it is.
  18. Remember that there is more than just the lever in the console...the pedal area has some work that may be needed also.

WOW! Now that's impressive! You don't have to jack the car up repeatedly using cinder blocks to get it high enough to attach it to the rotiss.
  20. Yes, it was. It's been a while though and searching I could not locate it; I suspect it was in the classifieds section of the old forum and thus is now gone forever. That car is for sale right here in Austin.

Great idea Will, I like the ones that Ken makes but love the idea of the larger wheels. zman525, I'm with beandip as for cheap and what your life is worth. However I believe what you really mean is inexpensive. There is a difference but most people, including myself, just say cheap. In any case check out this page and see if any of this information and pix help you out any...that is should you decide not to get one from Ken. http://www.pape.ws/allan_and_rosanne/Z-Car_Stuff/Rotisserie/

I can't remember where I read a nice writeup about a couple different combinations, I think it may have been on ZGarage. In any case I chose to go with the '77 5-speed and an R180 3.9 diff. This seemed to be the best for autox and some street driving. Now if I were going strictly autox then the R108 4.11 would have been the diff of choice with the same '77 5-speed, but if I wanted top end (highway speed) with lower RPMs then the later '81-'83 5-speed with the R108 3.7 or 3.9 would have been the choice set up. This is from memory so please be gentle if I'm off a little bit on this information.
  24. texasz replied to zman525's topic in Parts Swapping
Any stock tranny from '70 all the way up to '83 are all interchangeable...this means a nice easy bolt in swap. You are talking big $$$ for a 6-speed as there is some serious fabrication involved, visit hybridz for more information on this swap.
  25. Yes Bill, I used this stuff on my first boat (a real POS); never needed it on my second one (a MUCH newer and better one than the first). When it dries it's water tight thus making it the perfect solution for boat electrical wiring.
