  1. Lots of good information here guys, thank you! May have saved my arse.
  2. The 5 speed stuff is on the left, 4 speed is the one on the right. Notice the different height of the collar on the right side, 4 speed. Hope this helps understand what Chas and Jeff are talking about. It helped me, now I know which fork goes with the 5 speed.
  3. I apologize for hijacking your thread but Chas said something that rang my bell. I'm about to put the wide 5 speed into my 240. I've got the taller collar but never put the clutch forks side by side. I have one that's taller than the other, it has a large hole for the slave plunger and a smaller hole for a spring, I suppose. The shorter one has no holes at all. Which one goes with the 5 speed? My 280 doesn't have a spring so I'm guessing the shorter one, but I'd like to hear from the transmission guy, Chas. Thanks!
  4. Sorry for forgetting this. The sticker that's been removed has one word I can make out, "Correct", no idea what it was. And I thought my puppy was house trained to use the doggie flap to go outside to use the restroom. Wrong! I found his toilet behind this 280 when I was taking the pictures.
  5. Let's see if this works. http://www.zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/
  6. The 16s are 205/55. They did fine on the red one but on the lowered orange one the fronts rubbed the inner fender lip when turning sharp. Putting them on the heavier 280 worked out good, they wouldn't fit my Camry.
  7. Thank you guys! Y'all are, as always, exactly right. I removed the cover to get it right anyway. Glad I did because I had used too much silicone around the water passages and found what a mess that was. Those pieces most likely would have caused some blockage down the road, my luck hasn't been too good lately. It's still on the motor stand so it was an easy job. Thank you both again. Cliff
  8. I've done something stupid again. I hadn't touched it in a month or so and just noticed. Probably okay, BUT. I've got my bright timing chain links set on tdc exhaust stroke. I've got a week off so I'll pull the front cover and do it right.
  9. I've got 15" Koning Rewinds from Direct Tire with Hankook Ventus 205/50s and love them. $560 after all the rebates, great deal to me. 15s on the orange one, 16s on the red. I prefer the 15s on a 240. The 16s are on my 280 now.
  10. Post number 6 might help, http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/32650-emmissions-stickers/ That's a '78 so I'd bet they ARE both on the passenger's side.
  11. I'm not sure about that. The car hasn't been painted, so I think that's where they belong? My 240s have just one on the passenger's side though.
  12. I apologize for the poor quality pictures. I'll get a better shot later today and some measurements if you want. That extra one on the drivers side is a "recall fix" sticker for the BPT valve. I'm not too sure about the one that's kind of missing, it may be an upgraded freon sticker? I'll get something clearer soon!
  13. Looking at that fuel filter makes me think you have some rust somewhere. The tank probably. Do you run a filter right after the tank?
  14. That looks great! I get ten days off after tomorrow. Hope to get mine installed and driveable during the break.
  15. I have a question on those splines I'm hoping you can answer, please. Are they "keyed" somehow and will only slide into the right grooves or will it slide back up in the wrong position? I think I've got it back like it was but wanted to be sure. Thank you for any help. Cliff
  16. I thought about adding Jelly to my "garage" but never did. Now I've got another one so maybe I will put both in there. I don't think Mike would mind. Who knows, the way the home page rotates through our pictures I might see my dogs on there one day.
  17. Fortunately we're still here, but they're frequent. He's learning so fast, goes to the door already but I have to be quick or he'll leave me a "treat".
  18. Is he like that cute dog on the Caesars commercial? My old boss, the GC I worked for had one for his daughter. Bella was her name, super smart dog. Merry Christmas Mr Tavish!
  19. I found those at Lowes. I need another one now, maybe a good project for today.
  20. My Vet calls him a Bullador. https://www.google.com/search?q=Bullador&rlz=1C1BOFA_enUS494US494&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj02IKcpOjJAhVDQCYKHZR9A58Q_AUIBygB&biw=1280&bih=620 His mother is a Chocolate Lab, I've met her so I know that part is true. Now whether the dad is an American Bulldog, I can't say for sure. I like him but my other dogs have been females so I don't know how stubborn he's going to be. Can't be worse than me though, we make a good match. A "Mexican Stand Off" for sure.
  21. Is there pictures of the Mustang? I sure do want to see it.
  22. Try your best to decipher my scattered brains this morning. Mr Zedyone_kenobi had a great thread about his motor swap, showed a crate he built for the motor. I built the crate, added some steel wheels. Put the tranny on my motorcycle jack and slid them up to each other, bolted them together. Picked the whole thing up with my engine hoist and put it into the car. The 2x is too thick to let the rear clear the board so I had to chisel out 3/4" of the thickness and went down about 2" so it will clear the rear board, picture #2. You could still use the 2x but cut that out before nailing together. It sat about 1/2" short before I cut that out. But for storage it would be fine. And you'll have to go 1/2" farther back for the oil pump cut out. Here's his thread, very informative read when you have a few hours, it's about 12 pages long. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/43476-my-datsun-spirit-l28-build/page-5 Go to post #86 for the crate info. Here's mine ready for installation. Looking back at his, I used 2x6 wood his is 1x6. I would use 1x6 to avoid the problem with the rear not hanging off enough to mate the transmission. FWIW
  23. I did the motor and transmission first, then dressed it up. I'm on my phone now but will post a picture of my set up. You need to build this wooden crate looking thing, I can get the measurements, to mate the motor (on the wooden thing) and the trans., on some kind of jack. If you're trying to do this by yourself.
