My 1975 280Z heater control valve cable is broken - questions
It shouldn't matter that much. The furthest hole will provide the most leverage and require the shortest lever throw. If it lines up good with the mount I would go with that one. Have you looked on Ebay for a unit to see if you can tell which holes was used?

New Find.70 240Z
Petroleum is what the system is based on currently. It was based on horses at one time and coal after that. As technology improves the system will change. Pretty much all of the promising technologies are not advanced enough yet to begin the transition. It takes a tremendous amount of effort and money for the infrastructure to change to a new form. There will also be unintended consequences of a new technology. There always are. There are also a lot of products that are made with petroleum distillates! Even if we didn't use it for fuel you are still going to need petroleum until alternatives are found. I believe stewardship of our environment is important, but unless we are going to live our lives and build our cars totally out of organics, petroleum is here for a while...

The stock red 69 in the one add is a really nice clean car. I always wanted one, I'm just about 5 inches too tall for one...

New Find.70 240Z
For the moment diesels are the best choice for most of the jobs they do. Can you imagine how much gasoline a freight train would burn or a semi, loaded with 40 tons or a combine. Until something better comes along it's what we got...they get cleaner every year Talc causes cancer too but I still use it when I shoot pool. Lot's of products I cut up with a circular saw cause cancer too, and I cut them up and build houses with them because that's what the rules ordained by the government mandate. I prefer not to joist windmills, just trying to get by and provide for my family while I can. Just a little cog in this great big system!

New Find.70 240Z
That's just stupid. How many cars on the road between 67 and 77? Very few!!!! The cars ruled out are very rare and don't get many miles...stupidity on display IMO

I will check. Rotors are brand new but I can confirm they are factory dimensions

Yes the slot on the caliper hits the rotor before the caliper gets in position to bolt up. I thought about grinding but have ruled that out as too much of a hack and the fact the pads might not fit even if I get the rotor bolted up. I have considered going back to the factory caliper. I may still. I also thought about ordering what should be a plug and play caliper from Rockauto and see what I get...

The issue isn't pads. The rotor hits the sides of the slots on the inside of the caliper, before it clears the strut ears

Thanks, evidently I don't know anything about them either... @Zed Head ZH, Do you have any insight on the brakes?

1971 HLS30-14938 "Lily" build
On another note, it appears I have the wrong caliper. I was under the impression that the Toyota 4 caliper was plug and play but I must have the wrong caliper. I been searching on Hybrid Z but the info is all over the place and very disjointed. this is a caliper for an unvented disc. When I line it up on the disc the ears on the caliper hit the ears on the strut tube instead of sliding behind them. I don't really want to run spacers. I believe this is the wrong caliper, correct? Evidently multiple calipers have the s12+8 stamping...

The "B" distance piece was right at the top of spec 2.069" if IRC. the hub was 2.071 - 2.073 depending on where you measure. So I assembled it. They are both torqued to 80 Ft Lbs and spin fine so I think I should be good to go from here. Yes one less problem is always good

Starter over heating
I can't imagine you have good spark and it won't start on Ether. I don't think I have ever flooded a car bad enough to prevent firing on Ether. I would check for good spark again.

Too rich for my blood
Also the Datsun crowd may be a little a different, now that we are seeing classic Datsuns trading for 50k up through 100k. That kind of investment changes your perspective on flaws and their importance. The days of the cheap Z are gone, unfortunately or not...

Too rich for my blood
My general thoughts are that the car is priced right at the top of the main stream cars. No crazy history or exceedingly rarity excluded. If you choose to price a car in this range, you need to be prepared for serious scrutiny. If this car was 10k or even 20k it wouldn't receive this level of critiquing. If you are going to price yourself in the #1 category you should be prepared for the corresponding review. The previous owners views, desires or hardships have very little bearing on whether the car is worthy of the value that they have attached to the car. Even though we may be sympathetic to that...

Brake leak help
Unless I am mistaken the E brake is all mechanical. The main circuit is hydraulic. My first guess is the seals are deteriorated and they leak when the pressure is removed from them by the E brake. That is however just a guess...

HAPPY FATHERS DAY
Yes I am 6'-5" and unfortunately Cody will probably 6'-8" or taller... Happy Father's Day to you too Guy. Looks like you had a good day in the shop too.

@Captain Obvious I think I got the rear hubs sorted out. The second hub went together pretty good except we left the distance piece out the first time. On the first hub, I smacked it with a hammer to make sure both sides were driven in all the way but it was still dragging some. On closer inspection, the inner grease seal wasn't driven in far enough and was dragging on the inside of the driven hub. Drove it in some more and it turns good now

My oldest daughter spent most of the day with me trying to diagnose the boat and working on the Z. We got the headliner installed I had sound mat on the ceiling but it didn't seem to be holding. So we stripped it and went straight onto the Lizard skin A clothes pin helps a lot getting the material tucked in. I didn't work the adhesive all the way to the edge of the liner of the roof. That made it a little easier to tuck in We hung some doors on the chassis Lowered it down and hung 3 of the 4 struts on the car. Working towards getting it on the ground and ready for finished paint It was a good day in the shop even though we didn't make any progress on the boat...

HAPPY FATHERS DAY
Yup! Before you know it they are taller than you and getting married... Time goes by fast. Take time to slow down and enjoy them while they're home.

Emergency brake hitting aluminum driveshaft on 71
I agree with Zed. Bend the arm away a little bit. It can be a little stiff.
